I've been into anime since I was 11 or so but never became one of those types who thinks it matters - instead, being into anime so long has made my tastes really varied and open. What I like or not is more of a show-to-show type of situation. Aside from anime I run a blog, play games, and enjoy writing - all of which have left me with years of mostly free time to watch anime, so I've seen a lot. However, I've never forgotten this is just an entertainment medium. There is no way to be "elite" or anything and it's stupid that people think there is, oddly enough most people who believe there is such a thing are those who aren't very into the medium in the first place and just want to feel prestige anywhere possible. I'm not one of those people.
To sum things up in terms of how my list works: First off, it's all legit. Anything dropped I gave a chance. Anything completed I finished. PTW doubles as my on-hold. My ratings are not based on some "how will this make me look to other people" scale. I don't list hentai. My manga list isn't accurate at all. I do not have any 'milestones' or things like that because, 1. My list is legit and it is for me, I don't give a shit what people believe, and 2. people can just as easily make up those 'milestones' as they could their entire list.
JC Staff has made more masterpieces and classic anime than any other production studio has come close to, they have even cemented several genres that are still very popular today thanks to them, so stop blindly hating just because you see that's the cool thing to do. You want to talk about bad adaptations then look at KyoAni - who are known to remove entire main characters and storylines because they aren't "moe enough" to sell (Clannad, FMP:TSR, etc).
I'm also a pretty big collector, not just figures and other merch, but I own a lot of DVDs, BDs, manga, doujin (all clean! I'm 2pure), and even visual novels. Actually, I'm pretty pointlessly proud of my VN collection because a lot of them are rather rare or even just impossible to find ones (even in Japan), and almost all first limited edition presses.
My favorite video games are Star Ocean 2, the Xenosaga Trilogy, Persona 4 Golden (VERY specifically Golden, the original game is mediocre) and Trails in the Sky. I love plenty of non-JRPGs too, but my favorites are such, non-JRPGs that are favorites would range from things like STALKER to Deadly Premonition to things like the Witcher series. My favorite VN is Ever17. My favorite anime films are Tokikake and Patema Inverted.
