I started watching Legend of the galactic heroes recently my biggest problem is just how old the show is. Its difficult to watch a show this old after watching something like fate/zero.

No. Old anime are quite amazing. The only drawback is that sometimes the sound is pretty bad. From rest to me, it's fine.

The age of the show or when it was made doesn't matter to me. If I like it, I like it and won't have any difficulty watching it. If I don't, I'll drop it. An example would be a hentai that I watched. It was made in the mid 90s, but I loved the way it was drawn and animated. After that I watched a hentai that came out last year. I couldn't bring myself to like it at all.

Note: The reason why I chose hentai examples is because that was the best example I had connected to what you were talking about (art and stuff).

Just mentioned three of some of my fav. anime right there.

The animation at the beginning of LoGH was horrible, and the animation through most of Berserk is shoddy. The characters and story made up for it though.

No, quite the opposite. Sometimes I just feel like watching older style animation.

I'm currently watching original Saint Seiya and I might start watching LOGH after that :)

To be honest, I had trouble getting used to the art style in Revolutionary Girl Utena at first, but then the anime got rolling and it stopped bothering me. So my answer would be no, although it might take a bit for me to get used to it. Still, rather than age, I'd say it's more of trying to get used to a different style. I can imagine someone having trouble getting into something that's drastically different from what they're used to. Say, stuff like Kaiba, or stuff that are made by Studio Shaft that have some unique look to them, different look from the clean cut stuff we see a lot today.

Unless we're actually talking about not like old anime because they are old, then I got nothing. Besides the art, is there something unique to "old" anime that makes it hard to approach compared to the newer stuff? Does that work in reverse, where someone would never touch anything with that "new" feel to it? I'm not sure.

LotGH began airing in '88, that's not "very old". And no, I have no problems with older anime, I actually prefer older titles. They have less bs fanservice.

No because they are mostly good and aren't clichéd, which is probably the most annoying thing to see in anime

The old clichés like the super manly 80s stuff are tolerable, guys having no balls in front of crazy girls who want the d isn't tolerable

I dunno, I'd say 25 years is rather old for the medium, man. It's in the "very old" territory pretty big.

It may feel weird, but it won't be difficult. (Yes, I've seen some 60's and 70's anime, and depending the enjoyment, it wouldn't bother me. See, the stories and characters have to be very good no matter how old or young Anime is.

Thankfully, they were not as extreme as it was today... probably Fujiko Mine as a fair example of fanservice not overcooked?

Not really the only anime that I found difficult to watch due to the art was clannad. I didn't start LoGH because it seems extremely boring and tiresome plus I hate spaceship crap, LoGH looks like start trek the anime version minus the politics LoGH has.

It's not difficult to watch. But I do feel unsatisfied with the animation if I watch something that I've never seen before twenty years after it aired. For example, I know I will be underwhelmed by MSG battles (never completed watching it and never saw a real MSG battle) now that I've seen MSG 00.

It really depends on the show.

A good show can still be good today even made 20-30 years ago.

i think Lain looks like crap compared to todays standards, yet it managed to captivate me greatly.

I think Akira looks fucking amazing even for todays standards, it still captivates me.

Aim for the Top (gunbuster) on the other hand looks pretty decent but the 80s are too strong in that one so I couldn't bare it.

Some shows transcend the time they were made, while others die away with time.

Same is true for todays anime. Do you honestly believe people give a shit about fate/zero in 20-30 years?
The looks of shows can always be improved, but the content is set in stone.

Of course I can't bare myself to watch anime from 50's or so. LOGH's animation is decent, but the character designs are very appealing(Better compared to many series nowadays). My standards for art and animation aren't too high, plot and characters are what draws me to a series

The key is to watch a greater variety of anime than just "whatever's airing new this season and some much older anime lots of people say I should watch." True, the difference between 2012 and 1988 may be daunting. But, if you sprinkle in some early 00s and 90s anime here and there, there won't be that big of a gulf between what you're used to and what you're trying to get into.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.

The only right way ;D

But no I will actually make a review soon about KnK after I actually managed to finish it.

To just give a teaser.

Disliking Evangellion (for which he gave no reason) is kinda ironic when he likes Kara no Kyoukai, which is imo the most pretentious shit I've ever seen and comes not 1% close to the relevance, influence and themes that NGE offers.

I've never understood the "if you liked anime x then you must like anime y" logic. I'm even more baffled when the anime in question are KnK and NGE, whose only similarities are that they both try to come off as being greater than what they actually are. Not to say that NGE is shit (although I was less than enthralled), but being significant/revolutionary doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
