This show has an unique premise among others this season and I kinda like it. Ruri's fascination for minerals is a catch here, as I think it will be a recurring gag.

There's nature outdoors exploring and I also enjoy seeing her chemistry with Nagi. This probably won't have any complicated storytelling but still can work really well for the series.

I've got to say, mangaka Keiichirou Shibuya's series that is all to learn about mineralogy, this is one of the most unique works I've seen.

Rei Yasuda's OP is whimsical, magical, and overall, just a thing of beauty.

The girl of intrique, Ruri Tanigawa, trying to learn the art of mineralogy, finding herself paired with the graduate student of Nagi Arato finding minerals for her own, it's like friends of interest coming together to pick minerals.

Alas, it's not every space that is deemed safe to collect minerals due to factors within the forest, and other than the obvious areas, the rivers are where the minerals will fall to when landslides usually happen. And the rivers themselves also pose another problem due to the current when collecting minerals, specifically garnets, and a treasure trove of them from the upstream.

Hana Hope's ED is, like the OP, such a charm.

An educational CGDCT in the making, this will be a good one.

Watching an anime that has CGDCT/Educational tags is probably my favorite way to learn something new. I have always been interested in mineralogy. I had a small rock collection when I was a kid.

Nice and wholesome start with a great looking animation. Nagi and Ruri are adorable. :3

By the way, if you are interested, here's a bunch of more or less educational CGDCT/all-female main cast anime:

Houkago Teibou Nisshi
Koisuru Asteroid
New Game!

The comedic acting in this episode is spot-on and immediately makes you love the main character. From dramatic begging to acting all smug when she thinks she’s smart, then back to desperate pleading and funny disappointment, it’s a great mix of emotions, all delivered in a super entertaining way. This whole is really well done. You can tell they put care into showing how charming the protagonist is, and the geology stuff is also handled with detail. If the show keeps this up, teachers might actually start using clips to get kids like Ruri to pay attention in class.

One of the most impressive things here is how well the characters move, especially outdoors, the sense of weight and balance feels real. But the biggest standout is Mayu Fuji’s work as the animation director. Every drawing looks great, and everything moves smoothly the whole time. Since the show focuses on mineralogy, it’ll probably appeal more to a niche audience. But even if you're not into rocks, the characters are super cute and expressive, and the high production quality makes it fun to watch.

Honestly, this was one of the most polished first episodes I’ve seen in a long time.

Ruri is a girl who likes crystal necklaces or similar mineral stones. She hears news that there is "suishou" (quartz) in the mountains. Ruri decides to climb the mountain to search for mineral stones, and even though there are bears there, she doesn't give up. When she is about to lose hope, Ruri meets Nagi. Nagi is a graduate student studying mineralogy. Ruri follows her to look for "suishou."

I like the opening theme; the visuals are quite good. Quartzite or the white crystals are formed from magma. These crystals are created due to being pulled by magma activity, and a small part melts and undergoes other influences. They enter a forbidden collection area, and Nagi explains to Ruri that the restricted area is indeed dangerous.

Ruri and Nagi search for garnets in the river, wondering if garnets are similar to rubies. They use the same method as when searching for gold, which involves using a sieve. Nagi also explains the fastest method to obtain garnet stones by relying on the river's current.

@Mr_Sai M8, its not the studios that make "weird series", its the creators of said series.

For MT, its the novel's writer, for ONIMAI, it was the mangaka.

So why studios get all this unneeded hate, is beyond me.

I mean have ppl forgotten that animes are just adaptations?

Promising entry into the 'shows I learn about something' genre. Good animation quality for something this niche.

I'm guessing Ruri is a bit of a brat, but I guess that is to be expected here. Nagi already winning me over for putting Ruri in her place about trespassing.

Looking forward to next episode.

It's mining time!! Studio Bind is yet again flexing with great visuals, the show looks stunning, maybe the best looking anime this Summer season. I'm not a big rock expert but I think Ruri no Houseki can get me invested somehow. Looking forward episode 2 next week!

I started watching Ruri no Houseki with zero expectations, and it turned out to be absolutely fantastic. The topic reminded me of Koisuru Asteroid, but this one is way more interesting and entertaining so far. The characters are also surprisingly lovable, really enjoyed the first episode.

I assure you, I'm not watching this show because of Nagi (not 100%, at least)

This is so good! This puts me back in the chemistry lab, one of my favorite classes from college. And, following my family in a way since my grandpa was a surveyor, watching this is something worthy of spending part of my Sundays on.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

I think this anime tries to sell itself more with Nagi-san's humongous boobs than with minerology itself. :D

Joking aside, the first episode was fun, even though the main character was too much of a squeaky airhaid for my taste.

I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this anime a ton.

This anime reminds me of Asteroid In Love, mostly the rock part of Asteroid In Love. Ruri is such a fun character and I love her a lot. Nagi is just a chill person in general and I like that about her. This anime also gives of a bit of Non Non Biyori vibes, which is amazing for since me since I really love animes like NNB. I'm about to learn about so many rocks from this anime.

Oh my God! What is this art?! I absolutely loved the artistic and visual side—wow! Just wow!

I don’t understand how some lesser-known anime manage to shine in such surprising ways! Also, it’s an anime about geology—a subject I know absolutely nothing about. So not only will I be enjoying it visually, but maybe I’ll learn something scientifically as well. Who knows?

As for the female character designs... they were *very* generous, drawing their bodies much larger than their heads! Even in that area, they were generous—really going all out to ensure a visually pleasing experience in every way! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Jokes aside, the opening and ending were amazing! The anime is leagues ahead in terms of visual and artistic quality.

Knew putting my faith in studio bind was gonna be worth it. Very fluid bouncy animation with great visuals and camera angles. People at studio bind has a certain kind of fetish for sure and I'm here for it. Liked the atmosphere of the show and energetic characters. Both of them are cute and Nagi is stacked in every way. Those focused camera view on her ass was something alright. Also it took me a bit to realise why she had bells hanging around her, it was to ward off Bears.

Good start, been a while since I enjoyed a SoL CGDCT this much. Heck it's main theme is literally about rock, leave it to japanese authors to make even such a mundane topic so interesting. I'll never be not impressed by this fact. The OP theme song and visuals were also impressive.

The production is top notch as you'd expect from Bind. Their shows are so vibrant. OP song is beautiful too. Even if I'm not into the subject matter, it's neat how educational this is. This probably won't be anywhere close to become a favorite this season, but I gotta appreciate the good things it going for it.

Studio Bind really establishing themselves as the go to studio in the CGDCT genre. This is incredible. Breathtakingly beautiful, well directed and most importantly, educational. I know next to nothing about mineralogy so I’m very much looking forward to learning about rock formations, jewels and all that good stuff! Amazing OP and ED as well, so good to hear Yasuda Rei back, love everything about this.

Wouldn’t be studio bind if they didn’t buff the characters and add some gooner shit in here, it is what it is, doesn’t seem nearly as bad as Onimai in that regard and Nagisa is at least an adult so it’s ethical lmao. One of the things I like most about this though is how they’re teaching environmental responsibility and the importance of adhering to local laws and regulations. Don’t want anyone going behind prohibited signs and getting hurt at home. You’re there to study to environment, not destroy it!

Nagisa and Ruri are really good together, I love how intellectually curious Yuri is and Nagisa is happy to teach her about things. I saw some people talk about Ruri being a brat, but she’s a kid so that’s to be expected. She’ll calm down and be more respectful as things go on I’m sure. Plus the author kinda needs her to be like that at the start to drive home the environmental stewardship stuff.

Very good start, with this, Puniru and Game Center Girl we are eating good on Sundays.

When I planned out what to watch from this weekend I did not expect this to be among the ones with the best first episode. Truly, with an animation full of life both in character expressions, background scenery and useful data (and cute girl anatomy I guess) and a very tranquil and soothing track that gives off the sense of adventure on top of a premise that is very rarely used, the result really stands out. I can't recall any other anime with geology as their primary aim and that's a subject we barely had at school so it will be very engaging to learn about it.

Oh, and that opening and ending sequences make me feel really at ease.

Probably the best animation I've seen in a CGDCT show. Hopefully the rest of the anime looks as good as episode 1.
