| Honestly, this is the type of festival I had expected from this show. Masks, archery, bonfire, etc. It seems there's actually a more deeper meaning behind those masks. Maomao handles herself very well imo, despite being in unfamilar territority. |

| Jinshi is fighting the world, in a very literal sense, to get a clue over Maomao’s location or where she might be, all while thinking the worst at the back of his mind, and yeah, Maomao is here chilling and enjoying the festival lol. She doesn't have much to do so it’s understandable as well, but still man is facing the wrath of Lakan there and is being taken apart, so… she should at least start giving a fuck about Jinshi and rest of the people she left behind xD Still fun to see how it feels like Maomao’s there for a vacation, as you see, for a person that got kidnapped she’s getting a treatment which no person who has to deal with kidnapping has ever received… EVER. And you know, that is why she got in her comfort zone like she always does around in the inner palace… the stuff with investigating things which she should’ve just left alone. Really though, CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT, and that was someway to get caught… holy shit! They had the chance to make it more thrilling, but they kinda dropped the ball, but well, we know who that lady is. They'll do the reveal next episode. |

| Finally we’re back. Missed Maomao on my screen sm last week! Really nice set up episode as we transition into our next big opponent, Shenmei. I absolutely LOVE how Hyuga sensei sets up all these plot threads and then has them converge slowly like this. It’s so satisfying. The door puzzle that taught us about Mother Royal and the color blindness of the royal family, Jinshi’s assassination attempt, the suspected weapons trafficking, the clinic ladies and of course the foreign envoy, all seemingly coming down to this arc. Seeing Shisui and Suiren’s village after what we learnt last week was dope. They’re not bad people and tbh given how the emperor preyed on young girls I support any form of retribution. “Insects never survive the winter they only leave behind their children.” Clearly Shisui thinking of her mother there! Poor thing has so much trauma from things beyond her control. Lmao at Maomao geeking out over the resurrection potion’s formula. Lost it when she asked Suiren to try it out on her, she’s so slow 😂. I know it’s delusional af but I still believe in the Shisui x Maomao ship. The way Shisui does her hair, makeup and even dresses Maomao is so cute. The way she gently caresses Maomao’s hair so tenderly as if begging for Maomao to save her from her predicament.. girl you can’t fool me I know what yall are Like we all thought! There’s an illegal weapons trade going on with Ayla’s nation! Given this village longstanding relationship with that western culture, I wonder if that ends up being the same place she’s from which I think we decided was like Ottoman Turkey, meaning the mother royal was part Turkish. Very interesting! Ending gave me sm anxiety, I’m worried for Maomao and Kyou! |

| We had to endure a week without Moamoa but it was worth the wait. Shishui showing some odd things ones again and we got to see a nice festival. The kid proved very useful nat to mention resourceful. And they discovered something new while also being discovered and the look of that woman was terrifying. Hopefully everything will be alright. |

| Nothing too insane happened in this one but damn, Shenmei made me almost piss my pants. At first I thought she looked a bit funny but when she grabbed that sword....I wouldn't want to get on her bad side. Glad to see Maomao is having fun while Jinshi is panicking left and right lmao |
| The Venn diagram intersection for hostages who actively volunteer to be lab rats and those that have an adverse reaction to frogs has to be fairly small. Man, the revelation from Shisui. It's always the bubbly ones. |
| It makes sense that Suiren and Shisui wouldn't be so hostile and guarded towards Maomao if they're mostly just following orders from a big baddie... or at least someone scary. Nice way to loop back to the color blindness in the imperial bloodline from the West, it'd be interesting to see how these all connect. |

| The long wait after the one week stop has increased the expectations but it was worth it because they were well repaid by a narration full of charm, mystery and comedy. The graphic quality is as always excellent and the characters were up to the roles assigned, I can't wait to watch the next episode. Oh my God! |

| 2 weeks of waiting and we're finally back, and I just have to say it. PEAK. CAT  I love the overall mood of this episode, it feels calm yet somehow tense, like something is brewing up to suddenly explode. And then that cliffhanger, this might be the first time Maomao actually faced an evil looking character. Maomao finally got what she wants from Suirei, the resurrection medicine recipe! (what a fun moment). No way Maomao could eat a Frog after "that" you know!? Shisui telling Maomao about her past and how she gets beaten up when she messes up, its just so sad. Maomao may not have her real parents growing up, but she received plenty of love from her sisters (and grandma too). The origin of the village somehow being similar to what she heard from the shrine of choosing, the people being colorblind, the place where the feifas are being made, its all coming together. Whatever could she mean by this... I just love this scene.  |

| The festival is here, and there's a lot more to this than it seems... It was great seeing Maomao on screen again after what has felt like so long. For a person that is supposed to be a hostage, she was sure enjoying herself. However, it wouldn't be Maomao without investigating what was going on behind the scenes, and with Suirei, Shisui, as well as Shenmei now, there's probably a lot to unravel with them as well as Ayla from the envoy from the moon fairy episode. As well, the mother royal has come back into play, and now the episode with the coloured doors feels a bit more important. I do think Shenmei's entrance could have been more dramatic, but given that the production schedule is pretty tight, it was still a solid episode all around. |

| The origin of these village people are also related to the same tribe that infiltrated the royal family and slowly took over. It's all connected. Also they were making the feifas here under Shenmei with the help of those foreigners it seems who are also likely from the same tribe from the past. Also so this is Shenmei, mother of Suirei and Shisui/Loulan. They are supposed to be half sisters with different father. Wonder if we'll find out who Suirei's father was. |

| Shenmei looks ratched asf, haven't had a problem with make up on this show but for a 2D character she's absolutely caked, the type of cover up thats trana hide generational trauma, and you can instantly tell she's going to be a pain, pray for Maomao. |

| AHHHHH KUSURIYA IS BACK, FINALLY Says me who's currently reading the 7th light novel (the anime is at the end of 4th now) lmao no but they did Shenmei so well? She does look like pure evil, or rather, a heavy-make up powdered stale raisin dried by pure evil instead of sunlight or any other form of dehydration. And the annoying but sweet (i guess) brat Kyou-u also got more screentime, but i do gotta say they somehow made him a little less irritating than he is in the source, but we'll see. My god, Shisui... She is one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise, and am sure a lot of people will share my opinion after this arc is over. I could write on and on about her character but it's too soon for that. "Insects cannot survive the winter. They only leave behind their young" woman stop you'll make me cry AGAIN. Anyways, i was thinking about waiting for the season to conclude to watch the rest of it but there is just no way lmao. The next ep is gonna be so excitiiiiiing aw man. I sincerely hope they'll make 3rd season too, asap. |

| Great ep, good to be back from that break from last week. Such a weird tradition that this festival does yearly. Maomao's thirst of knowledge never stops her from conducting experiments on herself. Hearing that Shisui gets beat, isn't good. Lil man seems scared of this person called Shenmei. Escaped to the workshop, only to learn its a feifa workshop and then we meet her. Lady Shenmei is definitely creepy, but beautifully funny looking, especially with that twisted smile of hers. Surprisingly enough, the blonde red concubines appear with her and Suirei. Are Maomao and lil man cooked? These must be the ppl responsible for the assassination attempt. PV shows alot of that abusive behavior from Shenmei, which is kinda obvious. 9.5/10 |

| So it turns out Maomao wasn't kidnapped-she just went on vacation to forget about Jinshi Frog 😅. I love how the story weaves all these connections together. If most of the villagers are related to the Imperial Mother, maybe Shenmei orchestrated the whole thing out of jealousy, wanting her people to rule the empire. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the mastermind behind the two assassination attempts on Jinshi. Still, I think Maomao would be more concerned about discovering the recipe for the resurrection elixir than the threat of being caught by Shenmei, who might kill her. Priorities. |

Even if those two ad-lib lines had not the classical form of waka, it had the mood and the sentiment of the classical japanes poems. Beyond just setting the mood for the scene it showed Shisui had good education. |
