Grossly overrated. It's the same puerile, weepy stories over and over again and visually their shows are a mess, with cartoon characters pasted onto overly photorealistic backgrounds with a bunch of filters smeared over the image like vaseline. Their Key adaptations were carried by Jun Maeda's music. Only thing from them that was kinda good was Full Metal Panic The Second Raid, but it was inferior to the first season by Studio Gonzo, lacking the charming fantasy aesthetics or the more entertaining fun factor.

Favorite studio so far. Their ways of animating character movements are quite realistic, especially clumsy characters like Yui or Chitanda. I don't think I have seen hair movements as smooth as K-ON or raining as realistic as Violet Evergarden. My favorite KyoAni show in terms of animations is Nichijou.

phantom world is my favorite kyoto animation anime

mai and enigma are sexy hot

also the best studio out there even if trigger is my favorite studio
kyoto animation gives good working conditions to their employees plus they have good other source of income and that is their a light novel publisher too and they animate their light novel works

Probably my most disliked. 90% of their shows are literally copies of one same shit. All characters are cardboard clones which differ only by hair and clothes. I can't stand those dumb looking girls with big heads, giant eyes and tiny arms.
Moe bait aspect in Kyoani shows is extremely obtrusive, I'd even say toxic.
The only two shows from Kyoani I approve are Lucky Star and Nichijou (Yes, I watched Haruhi, K-on and Clannad)

Went down the gutter post 2009, prior to this they had some pretty fun shows like Lucky Star and Haruhi. K-On was what did them in - not in the sense that it was a bad show but that they became too reliant reliant on CGDCT shows without the variety. Also, they made Free and any show that spawns an unbearable fujoshi fanbase deserves to be mocked.

When I think of KyoAni, I imagine an old coffee shop ran by a gran and grandad that has been in the family for generations. They are surrounded by their competitors, there is a Starbucks next door, a Costa across the road. The coffee shop is not as fast and on the go like it’s competition. However you know that after it’s been made and is served to you, you are getting good quality with a lot of love and passion, a feeling you can’t get from its competitors.

They're a good one just for how they treat the employees alone, and their anime looks really good. Unfortunately, even though my most favorite anime is from them, most of their stuff aren't my cup of tea.

Personally, the best animation studio, in terms of quality of releases and reputation. I don't know what these people are stating about KyoAni being reliant on moeblob and CGDCT adaptations. Why fix it if it works? They've found what they're good at, and a lot of people love it.

Gold standard of a great anime studio, high quality production, the most adorable studio with their trademark being moe specialist. They stay humble by making more sol stuff instead of making action shows when they actually could make the best action scenes than most anime studio. I may not like some of their stuff but they certainly special since they are responsible for my favorites.

Others have said very lovely things about them so I will try not to repeat their points.

One thing I believe that's important to note is their extreme aptitude in using CGI (see Sound! Euphonium and K-On! Openings for an easy example). Normally, 3d objects plastered onto 2d backgrounds look off at best, and vomit-inducing at worst. KyoAni CGI looks as if it naturally fits into the 2d animation. I should also complement them for their extreme attention to detail for character expressions. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Aoi and The Blue Bird come to mind when I think of highly expressive and detailed characters. There's a reason why you see so many GIFs of their shows going around. They put in so much effort despite not squeezing their employees for every Yen like other studios who have great animation.

I really should watch more of their work. Unfortunately for me, I busy myself with lesser studios.

Also, the people who say that they sell simply because they mass-produce moeblob have no idea what they're talking about. There's been a billion moeblob shows released, and almost none of them sell as well as KyoAni moeblob. They should think harder about the reasons for why that is.

Great quality animation, but I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest fan of what they adapt. Hyouka was great, but the other popular stuff like Kobayashi, K-On, Violet Evengarden etc. isn’t really my thing.

Absolutely love these guys, and have so much respect for them. I don't have much to add to all the glowing praises.

I actually haven't watched a lot of their stuff, I should really catch up on them. But the ones I have seen when I was just getting started with anime showed me what anime was capable of, and for that I will always be grateful.

@kihel Honestly I wish they did more action stuff/scenes. Beyond the Boundary is the only action anime they've done post k-on that I'm aware of (Ik they did some of full metal too, but that was before their current style), and the god damn the fight scenes were good. The animation was obviously top-notch, but it was also just really well directed and had great choreography. I can't exactly see them doing something like JJK or some other modern battle shonen, but if they did a new action show that fit their vibe, id be fucking ecstatic.

This studio is the gold standard of how to run an animation studio. The workers are all salaried employees who put a lot of pride into their work, and the end result is some of the highest quality productions in the industry. They are on the opposite end of the spectrum as say MAPPA as they take care of their employees and don't rely on freelance workers to do the grunt work for them. Clannad, Haruhi Suzumiya (sans the infamous Endless Eight), and Violet Evergarden are some of the best works done by these guys.

Watched:

- Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
- Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
- Nichijou (dropped after 12 episodes)
- Lucky☆Star (dropped after 1 episode)
- Musaigen no Phantom World (dropped after 1 episode)
-

Kyoukai no Kanata is in my plan to watch list.

Pretty famous studio, but I haven't really watched all their most famous anime tbh.

Ah, so some people want an action show from Kyoto Animation. I had never thought of it that way.

I guess it would be difficult to make a work that depicts flames, fire scenes, and action...since the studio was torched and quite a few of the staff members were killed.

Personally, I am just thankful that they are still making anime works after the arson.

tbf I'm probably like the only person who thinks this, so associating KyoAni with more laid back/Sol stuff rather than action scenes makes sense lol.

Also I agree, seeing KyoAni making such high quality anime after the arson is pretty incredible, I am definitely looking forward to their future works.
