And there is the forced drama again... well at least this time the most recent member of the shrike "refrigerator" team to die met a particularly bleak end...

I dunno, if this was real life I'd be pretty traumatized seeing someone die like that, even if I only met them a few days ago. Nobody's reaction seemed unrealistic or anything. I'd consider it forced drama if they spent a lot of time to get the viewer feeling sad too. They didn't really do that, it was more "oh look, they're crying, watch them cry for a bit, okay, moving on to the next thing"

Wow now Kate I also seen that coming when I heard that sappy line from her plus the last episode's preview was dead giveaway.

I almost cried for the blond haired guy.

I felt depressed when Uso and Junko cried, but I wasn't even close to crying.

Now that was a nice death! What makes ir sad is that she died to save an enemy ship.

And well, the reactions this time were good, with Junko and Uso crying

Yet another tragedy. At least Kate's death was a tad more meaningful, but we still didn't get to know her.
I know you're depressed Tomino, but that's no excuse for turning your characters in to canon fodder before we even get to know them!

God this series took such a turn for the worse recently, this careless death is seriously some of the worst writing in the entire UC series and the fact every character acts like they lost their soul mate over it makes things so much worse

it wouldn't had been so bad had the death made any sense, she went over to support it preemptively leaving her wide open to get killed casually. She had so much time until the thing would collapse or the ship would even launch but she went over there and let the guy kill her like a moron.

Please let this series be good again, i really liked its start. but f this really keeps up i understand why this is considered the worst in the franchise

This. Although this death came too soon after the previous one. Hope they leave some space until the next death, since it's obvious that the whole Shrike team will die at this point haha.

I really don't see how it's so bad. It would be worse if nobody died at all. The whole Shrike team is practically just a named grunt. There aren't other soldiers that could die. It would be weird if all battles ended without casualties and everyone just withdrew without losses each battle.

So far people are blowing this out of proportion.

The third ♀pilot killed ! But this one got a relatively glorious death. And the heroes didn't react as exaggeratedly as for the first one.

Katejina is going to become some pain in the neck, I feel it.

4/5 Will Uso keep blaming himself for every death and fall into madness?

About those annoyed reactions I read above, I will copy/paste this since it has already been written twice:

When you watch a movie about the D-Day that features some scenes before soldiers reach the sand, I doubt you're supposed to connect to the ones surrounding exchanging a word or two with the hero who will all die on the beach. It's more something like : you are supposed to understand the hero's reaction and connect with him.

@St0rmblade I should have given you a Shrike team bingo card instead of the (nice) motivational poster, zut !

I agree with the positive reactions for once. This time around I could understand how painful and gruesome Kate's death was, and Uso blaming himself for her death made sense to me. He's a child who just lost what he considered mother figures (Katejina went to space and Mahalia who gave him a bit of motherly affection was KIA, even though that particular bit was handled poorly) and was conflicted about whom and what he was supposed to protect, so it was perfectly normal for him to attribute yet another death to his own perceived incompetence, even if it's not actually his fault. Children do have a tendency to blame themselves for horrible things that happen to them, after all. I can see what Tomino was going for here and imo he did it rather well.

It was hard to watch and the heartbreaking music made it worse.

Shrike team isn't fairing too well, unfortunately. The death scene itself was beautiful, albeit gruesome. A photo of the derelict suit supporting the carcass of a symbol of space migration would have a significant propaganda value. Too bad League Militaire isn't keen on utilising that aspect of the war.

Very well said, sir. People on this board are overreacting a bit on this and need to look at it from Uso's perspective. I was also wondering why he was being so protective of Katejina, but like you stated, he is a kid without a mother figure and gets easily attached. After all.. he's a good kid looking for basic needs (emotional support, love) and he is 13! I thought this was a very solid episode, as I felt emotionally attached to Uso when he was crying about Kate's death.

The lipstick funeral scene might seem weird as an idea, but the scene itself managed to be poignant. The scene after Kate's death was also very powerful.

Griffon's mobile armor got called a "flying pan" xD Also, its cockpit was destroyed in ep.13...but now it's fine again (until it's destroyed).

The funeral scene was...strange, but good, I guess

RIP another oneesan, looks like Uso awakened his Newtype abilities at last.

Well, at least Kate died protecting civilians. I think is obvious that the whole Shrike team will die at this point.

This is probably one of the best episodes across all of Gundam. 70s-80s era Gundam really tries to make clear that, while there are clear good and bad sides, the people on those sides are all across the moral spectrum, and this episode really makes you feel that -- in the end, you feel sorry for everybody involved.
