I disagree with you. Ghibli is arguably the peak of anime.

Which is why people who don't watch anime at least watch Ghibli.

Easily one of the greatest anime studios, due to beautiful animation, good storytelling, and devoid of fanservice in everything they make. I’m impressed to the point where I can admit that they’re better than even my favourite anime. (Although I still prefer my favourites due to personal taste)

I didn't watch anything from studio ghibli until I had watched 300-500 in my entries on this site, so it's not quite for casuals, besides maybe the few that Disney localized.

They made good shit. I still remember 6 year old me watching Howl's Moving Castle for the first time and thinking it was best thing ever put to film.
Their films have wider appeal than your average anime but I don't see this as a bad thing.
Some people do for some reason. I don't get it.

Studio Ghibli is one of if not the greatest animation studios in the east. Or at least it is, historically. Maybe not so much nowadays.

Anyway, I love what they do. And even though KyoAni does the best at making what I like as an avid anime fan, I love Ghibli so much regardless that they're both tied for my favorite animation studio.

I like how Ghibli is incredibly expanded globally I wouldn't be surprised if most ppl in their 20/30s have seen at least 1 Ghibli film.
That being said, story-wise is as surface-level as it ever gets, would only watch for the aesthetics

Oh, I've just finished watching My Neighbor Totoro, so it's kind of fitting to post here :p I find Ghibli movies to be very nice-looking and interesting enough...that's basically all I have to say about them, for the most part. And maybe that's enough for this kind of films, but not enough for me. I didn't dislike any of the ones that I've watched so far and my favorite one at the moment is Grave of the Fireflies. I also don't mind watching more of them, even though I don't expect any kind of strong personal connection or epiphany as a result.

In a manner of speaking, yes. Miyazaki dislikes intensely the otaku culture, and more precisely dislikes the way it is centered in itself, creating scenarios that become more and more limited to the (in his opinion) very limited world that constitutes the otaku experience, compared with the real world outside. So when he makes something he tries to be as universal as possible, talikng not about otaku but about human beings in general. Whether he succeeds or not, or whether the product is good or bad, is another matter, but that's more or less how he said he views his own work.

purdy good, makes a good vibe while watching it with other folks and is aesthetically pleasing, u can tell they worked on the films
but yeah since it is an all-rounder it is definitely one of those shows that ppl who aren't into anime at all manage to watch

I like a lot of ghibli stuff. They've got great mass appeal sure but Howl's moving castle, spirited away, and princess mononoke are a master class in world building.

I really like their aesthetic too. Plus who honestly cares if its for "people who don't watch anime"?

I was watching this interview of Shingo Natsume, & he talked about how Princess Mononoke was a huge influence on his decision to work in the anime industry. I don't like Ghibli at all, but I do respect them for being a source of inspiration for so many people & their creations in this medium which we all love.

Great animation but boring story. I think their best movie was Hotaru no Haka. I think it was different from their usual product with its setting and tone.

Admittedly, I haven't seen a lot of Ghibli movie but the ones I have seen are really beautiful. Lovely animation, colorful characters, they all just have such a pure charm that it's hard for me to personally find a reason to dislike them.

"Thoughts on Studio Ghibli"

I respect Miyazaki way more as animator than as director or writer - those same ideas we se in Nausicaä, Laputa, Totoro, Porco Rosso and Kiki, we also see repeated through the rest of his catalogue. If we ignore the visuals, also Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro and Sherlock Hound which are not from Ghibli, only his movies Laputa and Totoro are the ones which stand out to me.
I like way better Takahata as director, thus The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is the biggest Ghibli masterpiece of them all.

"It seems to be anime for people who don't watch anime."

OP seems prejudice towards anime fans, as if they watch noting but degenerate stuff, which normal people wouldn't touche. That's not unexpected from a CSM fan...but assuming that everybody is [deeply disturbed person] exactly like you is a bit of a stretch.

Just Japanese Disney innit...

I honestly don't like Ghibli. Never have. Didn't like it as a child either. Most Ghibli movies are too boring and too normal for my taste. I watch anime cuz I wanna explore the crazy side of storytelling. If I wanted some normal story with good animation I'd just watch American cartoons.

Some of their movies are good. But that's it. They're nothing special.

I don't like Ghibli. Okay, I must admit that background art and animation are great in basically all thier works, but this is pretty much the only thing I like about Ghibli. I don't like the chara design. Story and character direction are not ringing me at all. To the point that it doesn't feel like anime at all. And ironically, the only movies that I could say I liked were these where Miyazaki wasn't the director. Like Umi ga Kikoeru.

I won't say I hate them, it's just completely not my cup of tea. That's all.

Hayao Miyazaki is the best anime director or all time. Spirited Away is my favorite work of Him. Ashitaka is my favorite character in his Lore/verse. I dubb Markl adult version and myson in Faith Enzo Danneman voices his child version.

I met Hayao in person and he said he likes SAO's Asuna.

Kinda hit and miss for me, but when they hit, they really nail it. Chihiro, Mononoke-hime and Kaguya are some of my all-time favorite movies.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

I think they've had a lot of influence on anime in general especially in regards to SOL/Iyashikei genres. So the idea that they're somehow the studio for people who hate anime is just dumb considering that SOL is very niche in comparison to the mass appeal of battle shounen or romcoms.
