Recently played Journey and WOW. Curious if there are any other games like it (with Abzu as an exception)

Definitely God of War (2018), best visuals and just overall art direction in any game imo. On a more indie game note, I thought hollow knight, ori and the blind forest, and what remains of Edith flinch were all very beautiful.

While they are different there's Zelda BotW and FFXIV

Now for me, The most beautiful game I've played has to be Rune Factory Tides of Destiny.
Other than that, there's Saya no Uta, Celeste and FF VI.

Where should I start?

The Mass Effect series especially 1 - 3 are wonderful. I also love Borderlands. Dragon Age (or at least the first one) has an incredible feeling. Final Fantasy has most unique storys mixed with awesome music.
Assassins Creed, Far Cry (beside 5 + "DLC" that was heartbreaking bad for me) ... I could go on and on like I live between video games xD
It really depends what genre you like most and which feeling you wanna get out of it.

Far Cry 3 at the time it came out looked spectacular. Ofc now it's trash, but it's still my first thought when I think about beautiful games. Far Cry 5 is great even by today's standards but there're better ones

Horizon Zero Dawn looks great though the mc looks average at best. My favorite looking game I played so far is .hack gu last recode. Besides that Persona 5 and Tales of Berseria look great!

You should check out Rime.

Also: Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier Automata

These three all have an atmosphere that can be compared to Journey. However, the gameplay is somewhat different. It would be worth looking into I think.

GTAV remaster looks great. We talking graphic or environment?

environment - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, GTAV, Red dead 2, Tales of Xillia, Shadow of colossus, Persona 5. The Outer Worlds. God of war (2018)

At the time when Final Fantasy 13 came out it was mind blowing how beautiful the visuals and audio were, I had never seen anything like it. It was so much more cinematic than any other games at the time.

Graphically wise, Shadow of the Colossus Remastered, Uncharted 4, Last of Us Part II

Environmentally wise, probably an indie game. Off the top of my head I can recall some like Apotheon, Hollow Knight, Subnautica.

I'd say Cuphead is a big candidate for being the most beautiful game among anything I've ever seen. It has such an amazing and unique artsytle, it's just beautiful to look at. Animations are also exceptionally fluid.

Another one that comes to mind is Mirror's Edge. Even though it's a last gen game, because of its unique and bright color schemes, the visuals still holds up to this day. I think it looks even better than the sequel.

I've always liked that cell shaded artstyle like in Wind Waker and BOTW.

GRIS also has beautiful watercolor style art

Return of the Obra Dinn has a unique approach

the recently announced Othercide has an interesting color scheme and contrast...but I'm unsure about the game overall.

probably anything in Dreams

and what I've seen so far of recently released Hylics 2 is INSANE artistic stuff.

other pretty games definitely include
Octopath Traveler
Dead cells
Hyper Light Drifter
Resogun
Transistor
Ori and the Blind Forest
Unravel
Superhot
Firewatch

there's obviously other graphically impressive stuff like the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive but I'll only mention that one.

a couple of other good ones have been mentioned already but yeah Journey is still one of the best visually unique games

I don't have many new games as my PC is getting old.

Witcher 3 is still the best looking to me. The world is beautiful and the Blood & Wine expansion just puts it over the top. It's the first game I played where the foliage feels realistic - walking deep into the woods is a genuinely tense experience.

GTA V is a close 2nd - the attention to detail is amazing.

First game that comes to mind is the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Amazing world building, characters, music ect.

Started replaying the game about a month ago. Even if it's getting older the graphics still holds up. There are also many graphics updates by modders so if you apply those, the game almost looks like something that could release today.

Definitely a Naughty Dog game. Uncharted 4 literally shocked me multiple different times. At the beginning when you get lifted out of the water and you see the whole city. I was like, damn this is insane.

Hollow Knigth managed to pull alot whit very simple graphics, but the fact that some of the plataforming don't makes sense hurts it. But yeah, I don't play many games that are storng in the art departament, so i'm going whit it.

heh.

In terms of character design, Guilty Gear. Even before the jump to 3D, it was king, the amount of detail on them is NUTS. I love just watching thier idle animations

I also rank Ar Tonelico, Okami, & Nier(& Automata) in the same category of having an amazing concept further enhanced by the great music

Beautiful in regards to graphics - Witcher 3. However, Story-wise I would say Either the To the Moon series or Dragon's Dogma.
