Much more than mean score, I've found that the difference in number between how many anime someone has given "10/10" and "1/10" determines how off the hinge they are.

If someone has a much greater percentage of 1/10's, they are the Mussolini type. If someone's ratio is skewed towards 10/10's, they are the airhead type of anime viewer.

I'll use myself as an example (omitting dropped series): I have two 10's, and three 1's. Therefore, my ratio is 2:3. Too bad, looks like I'm more of an elitist than not. Bonus points to anybody who's perfectly balanced.

lol definitely more of an airhead, if I don't particularly like it I usually drop it.
As you might have been able to tell by that sentence I'm more of a entertainment viewer than a hobbyist or critic.
Which can sometimes lead me to just provide higher scores as I tend to choose anime that I find to look interesting instead of watching most things and evaluating them.
But I usually score things based on a mix of how well I thought it was shown and how much I enjoyed it, which usually affect each other.
If you look at my list, you probably have to be honest, you would most likely see its quite high scores, and from the top of my head I've only really low scored anime I thought to be boring to me. I do try to provide a little flavour to my ratings as apposed to straight up 10/10 or 1/10's. But don't ted to go low.

After all, I am a fantastically horrible critic as If someone put two dishes in front of me and told to judge them on which is better I would probably forget I was meant to be judging as I tend to prefer to view the world from ease rather than waste my time picking things apart.

1 is a rating I rarely use but I'm fairly confident that is easier to find some trash that makes you wonder what they were even thinking when they made it than well, whatever you decide to use 10/10s for in case you have a minimal understanding on how to use the scale.

Edit: its 45:1

I have 12 10s and 249 1s so mine would be 12:249, or just over 1:20.

For me 10s are very special and every single anime I gave a 10 to holds an important place in my heart. 1s on the other hand are given out like candy to any anime that I thought had no value or pissed me off more than anything else about it could redeem it to being worth any higher.

Where did op even get these descriptions from lmao? 1/10 is a fascist and 10/10 is airhead? wtf is this shit lol?

17:83, that is roughly 1/5. the thing is i give 10 to "shows i would recommend always" (masterpieces), but 1s are special also, that is, shows that i find offensively bad. and so, if i take out all really bad hentais that got themselves into this computation, the quoeficient is like 17:23.

still, even so, i feel much to the critic / picky side than to the fun viewer one. so i should say that maybe comparing 8-9 with 2-3 would work better. that would be like 0,3 for me.

then of course i try nowadays to avoid watching bad anime and pick up ones by recommendation from others... that is also a difficulty, the rating tends to get higher.

that brought my average rating up, to 4.46.

Well, I don't have any 1s. The lowest rating I have is a 3 (for Higurashi Kira).

It's quite unlikely that I'd find something and end up actually watching and sitting through all of it to rate it that I would hate enough or find so utterly irredeemable and devoid of a single merit that I would ever rate it this low. Even that 3 is I believe the only one I have and even 4s are pushing it for me. I feel as if I like most things to at least some degree and can find some hidden virtues or redeeming features even if I don't enjoy the work overall. I know my own proclivities and driving interests well enough not to select stuff I'm going to hate every aspect of.

My most prevalent rating is likely 7.

i am 12:0 so I guess I'm an airhead. I still haven't given an anime a 1, I am yet to watch something that I find truly appalling. Even stuff like Abunai Sisters and Shitcom that are popular to give 1s to managed to give me a laugh so I find some worth even in them.

7 10s to 5 1s. Probably because while I legitimately believe there are more 1s out there than 10s, I also deliberately don't go out of my way to watch those. Plus my criteria for 1 is about as stingy as it is for 10: it must have nothing redeeming about it, nothing I can point to and say it worked. And again, I don't tend to watch anime that seems like that

never rated anything with a 1 so my ratio would be 6:0. But that is only because I drop the ones that I don't like way before I have a chance to rate it so low, not to mention the fact that I wouldn't even watch a show that has a chance of getting a 1 by me.

so if I do the balance between 10 and, my lowest, 5 then I would have a ratio of 6:4 or ~0.67

(note: I didn't count sequels in this)

I feel like calling people that give out frequent 10s an airhead is a really elitist thing to claim. Most people wouldn't finish watching a 1/10 anime all the way to the end. There's no reason to waste your time on that.
I don't think there's anything wrong with giving out a lot of 10s if that's how you feel. Idk this whole argument is really shitty imo.
You can have common sense and the ability to determine if an anime is quality or not and still enjoy it even if it isn't.

Perfectly balance here. My ratio is 4:4.

The 1/10 animes are the Hunter x Hunter movies and trash animes that I tried my hardest to watch until the end. I decided to put them in this low score to have a better parameter in ranking my animes.

If you have rated 1 for many anime, should I say like 10+ anime rated 1, that means you're either a completionist or a masochist and likes to torture your mind through horrible plots and cringy content.

This.I feel like people should pay more attention to the type of shows the person rated a 10 rather than only focusing on that score.I feel like it's a much better judge of character when you look at what animes they would give full scores to.

How anybody gives a show a 1/10 boggles my mind. For a show to be a 1/10 it would need to literally be unfinished. Like the artist fell asleep. The voice actor didn’t come to work. The writer was a 5 year old. Perhaps the show can’t even be called an anime at all. It’s more like a gif than an anime. That is a 1/10. So far I haven’t rated any show less than 3/10.

If you rate shows 1/10 I think you might not be a very critical person. Same if you rate everything 10/10. We’re all different I guess. Very different.

I also had the same mindset.3 was the lowest score for me.But then everything changed when I watched Tokyo Ghoul Re s2.The show doesn't have a single redeeming feature.Even it's OST and opening from TK can't save this piece of garbage. There are really terrible shows out there and Tokyo Ghoul Re s2 is one of them.

On the topic,mine 1's to 10's ratio is 5:1.

This thread shows again why the ratings on MAL are so screwed. Some people think that a 1/10 should only be given to something that doesn't even count as anime anymore, but a 10/10 doesn't have to be perfect. Weird double standards.

What kind of relation is this. You'll most probably have a higher number of 10s than 1s. That's because I believe that being a masterpiece is a lot more easier than being the most horrible shit on this planet. Right?

I have 10 10/10s and 2 1/10s so a 5:1 ratio. And I'm perfectly happy with kind of a ratio. As shit like My Sister, My Writer and Try Knights totally deserve that treatment.

I have 16 shows with 10/10 score, probably a few more would deserve it but I'm super picky. "this would've been perfect IF not for that single thing"
45 1/10 that I have finished. While these shows MIGHT not be objectively bad, they did something to either piss me off to no end, or just had absolutely nothing to offer from the start, were ridiculously badly made or stupid as hell in a bad way.

if I sit down to watch something in the "barely okay" category because of a good premise, hoping for some payoff or a satisfying ending and get slapped in the face instead, then the show has a good chance to end up as an 1/10. Endings are really important for me, it has a lot of influence on the final score.

If you've rated very few anime at 1/10, the most likely reason for this is simply that you have skill at choosing to watch anime you're not going to hate. If I watched every anime in existence, my 1s would outweigh my 10s by a huge degree. But I try to only watch things which are good, or at least OK, and I generally do a good job of it.

i don't use the 1 rating in the mal very often, i have only used it once. i don't think any of the anime i have completed deserved a 1 mostly because i am very selective while picking a new anime. i usually spend days to finalize which anime i'm gonna start and if doesn't interest me i usually end up dropping it. now the only anime i have given a 1 rating is tokyo ghoul re s2 coz it was a fucking cluster fuck and totally ruined the manga. i probably wouldn't have given it a 1 if i have't read the manga already. it was out of anger and vengeance. luckily there hasn't been any other manga that i like that has been butchered this badly.

and my ratio is 8:1 (not counting diff seasons of the same anime and 2 of em are of nostalgia)
