I changed my way of rating recently, It would've been something like 20ish otherwise. I still don't feel really strongly about some 10s but wouldn't consider them 9s either... |

| I removed my scores long ago, for various reasons...but there are only two anime that are 10/10 for me: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and When They Cry (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni). Hunter x Hunter (2011) gets close as well. For reference, I have 477 completed titles and 129 on hold. |

I agree that a 10 should be special, but your scores should also be spread out evenly. If for example, 2% of your list is 10/10 and 12% or more is 9/10 (especially if you have seen a lot), then your rating system is flawed, just like people who rate based only on enjoyment or only on quality. Giving the same score to all entries of one anime series should only be done if you truly feel that they're all of the same quality otherwise it's stupid. |

But actually, sometimes the scores make me confused, there are anime I rated 9 or 8 but enjoyed them no less than those I rated 10 or maybe even more. That's just different reasoning that goes into rating a particular anime each time. |

I agree, well said, everyone has their taste, sometimes I like to rate some underrated anime a bit higher so maybe if people who see it would consider watching them :) |

| If we're just counting total entries with a 10, then it would be 12 (out of 212 Completed). But I score nearly all my anime by series, not season - meaning I give the same score to all [TV] entries for an anime. So if I was going to do a score breakdown by series, then the total number of shows with a 10 would be about 3 (out of 144 completed shows). If I was to score everything honestly, my scores for many anime would probably be a bit higher. It's not that I try not to give out a lot of 10's, or that I don't think many shows deserve that high of a score, but I in fact just have a limit on how many of my [Completed] list can be a particular score. Additionally, I like to score comparatively, meaning I also like to have scores indicate a particular level of enjoyment; if two shows have the same score but I like one more/less than the other, than the scores have to be changed. |

| I very rarely give 10s they should be special and before i give one i always aks myself "is this one really on the same level as my other 10s" if not its for sure not a 10. I gave 2 shows a 10/10 out of 340 on MAL, i dont list every show ive seen but the ratio wouldnt change much if i added everything.For movies or books its a slighly higher ratio but not THAT much. Just a quick question for those with very many 10s, do you think every show you gave a 10 is the ultimate high of ficiton? |

| I've given out 10 of them so far, which is a very tiny percentage of my list. I have dozens of 9s and a few hundred 8s, but I don't give out 10s very often at all. I don't really feel there's a wrong way to rate, though. If you think all those anime on your list actually deserve a 10, then I don't see the problem with giving them a 10. |

| I've watched about 300 anime and I have given 13 of them a 10. I am not that picky as to what I think is "Masterpiece" status because, for me, it's a show that I loved, would recommend highly, and would re-watch again at almost any point in time. There is an objective standard most of the time such as story, characters/development, and soundtrack, but from time to time those get overshadowed by whether or not I enjoyed the show a lot (e.g. Grand Blue). |

| I've given 13 shows 10's, out of a combined 131 animes completed or dropped. Not a ton, but then, for me to give an anime a 10 it has to 1. Comment on an aspect of human experience in a meaningful way. 2. Not make any mistakes that significantly detract from how much I enjoyed it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're say, giving 10's to half the shows you watch, then it might reflect that your standards for what makes a top shelf anime are low, which will probably lead people to doubt your capacity for objective criticism, but you're not going to get that attitude thrown at you if you're only giving a perfect score to 10-20% of the anime you watch, and really, none of that even matters. Give whatever rating you wanna. |
