Toei Animation has opened a new page for a new anime adaptation of late author Shigeru Mizuki's GeGeGe no Kitaro manga on Friday. The new anime will be the sixth TV anime of the franchise, and will air on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. starting April 1 via Fuji TV and more. Dragon Ball Super currently occupies the time slot, however, Toei has not announced whether the anime will conclude or move to a new timeslot.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first anime adaptation, the new anime will be the first of the franchise to broadcast since Mizuki's death in 2015.

Sunakake Babaa: Mayumi Tanaka (One Piece)

The supernatural manga began under the title Hakaba Kitaro, which was published from 1959 to 1964 with 15 compiled volumes. This later became a template for GeGeGe no Kitaro, which began its serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shounen Magazine in 1965 and ran for 17 volumes until 1986. The series revolves around the story of a young yokai Kitarou striving for peace between the human and the yokai world.

The manga has been published in English by Drawn & Quarterly since May 2016.

Maaan, that cast is star-studded, as expected of Toei handling character VAs. I hope it'll turn out good and have some localization here outside Japan.

Everything old just kept on returning. I mean... Sakura, Dragon Ball, Yugioh, Digimon, Captain Tsubasa and even Pokemon had that re-imagined episode 1 movie. Is this like... the era of remakes on Hollywoods finally rubbing off anime? Not that I'm complaining if it's good.

Also holy shit, Goku's VA has been voicing Kitarou since the 1968.... Well at least they returned her for a role.

Nice, I'm looking forward to this for sure. Never had the chance to watch the original though.

I'm guessing this means DBS is ending but it's also possible that it could move to another air time.

GeGeGe no Kitaro is kid friendly, sure it can be spooky at times but it's still kid friendly.

The Adult one is Hakaba Kitaro

just because it kid friendly, doesn't mean you can't make it creepy... also hakaba kitaro was the prequel... sure gegege kitaro is milder, but pretty sure both has same demographic (if we are talking about manga, anime sure make it even more family friendly)...

I'm happy for fans, but I'm sure salty DBS fans will unfairly blame this show.

@Memegate I believe it will be a reboot with present time as setting and with full of action scenes, according to the report above.
