The supernatural manga began under the title Hakaba Kitaro, which was published from 1959 to 1964 with 15 compiled volumes. This later became a template for GeGeGe no Kitaro, which began its serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shounen Magazine in 1965 and ran for 17 volumes until 1986. The series revolves around the story of a young yokai Kitarou striving for peace between the human and the yokai world.
The manga has been published in English by Drawn & Quarterly since May 2016.

Maaan, that cast is star-studded, as expected of Toei handling character VAs. I hope it'll turn out good and have some localization here outside Japan.

Everything old just kept on returning. I mean... Sakura, Dragon Ball, Yugioh, Digimon, Captain Tsubasa and even Pokemon had that re-imagined episode 1 movie. Is this like... the era of remakes on Hollywoods finally rubbing off anime? Not that I'm complaining if it's good.
Also holy shit, Goku's VA has been voicing Kitarou since the 1968.... Well at least they returned her for a role.

Finally a proper horror anime.
finnaly a real horror anime, not a jumpscare....
GeGeGe no Kitaro is kid friendly, sure it can be spooky at times but it's still kid friendly.
The Adult one is Hakaba Kitaro
just because it kid friendly, doesn't mean you can't make it creepy... also hakaba kitaro was the prequel... sure gegege kitaro is milder, but pretty sure both has same demographic (if we are talking about manga, anime sure make it even more family friendly)...
