A large amount of my completed manga are shoujo, the rest are yuri.
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past."

I imagine it's pretty hard to avoid shounen whatever your preference considering it makes up around 60% of all anime...

I don't avoid anything though admittedly I'm drawn more towards shounen.

Akagami no Shira taught me that Shoujos are a lot better than I thought.

No, I do like shoujo. It can be interesting, and usually I like the art style more in shoujos.

I've never let a silly thing like the target demographic prevent me from watching an anime that looked interesting.

I'm a guy and I'm currently watching Shugo Chara. I'm actually really liking it. I used to watch My Little Pony which is directly to the same age and gender, so I don't see the problem. In my MAL "favorites" I have one anime of each demographic except shoujo. I'm hoping to watch a shoujo anime worthy of being one of my favorites.

I avoid Shoujo (Female) 5.57%
I avoid Shonen (Male) 3.61%

wat? why?

Not all girls are into sweet and unrealistic romance anime.

It's hard for me to avoid shounen anime, because most of it is so damn good, and I'd argue that a lot of it is just as appealing to girls as it is for guys.

I do love me some shoujo anime, but I'm more selective about it, because most of the female MC's in shoujo's are weak/boring/need to be save by hot dudes all the time.

I don't avoid either of those, though I do avoid not watching too much of those. Like I'd watch 2 series shoujo-ish, then action stuff and then something else.

Hell if I know, I voted "I avoid Shounen" just because I associate that with animes like OPM and Naruto and shit that I actually do tend to avoid. I think I'd be more likely to avoid Shounen than Shoujo as a male, but honestly, my criteria is simple:

-have cute girls
-doesn't look retarded
-no giant robots

So I guess it doesn't matter, really, as long as it does those 3 things.

It's curious. As a male, I have never tried to avoid a Shoujo, but I haven't watched any title of it now that I remember.

I have now spent the most time on shoujo of all the demographics. I've seen the most seinen anime, but a lot of the shoujo anime I watch are 45+ episodes. I don't watch much battle shounen or romance shoujo.

I'm currently fansubbing a romance shoujo anime (Ore-sama Kingdom) and expect to take about 60 hours on it.

I don't know, mate. SnK is a shonen manga (with it fujobait things), so I assumed the spin-off was also a shonen... Oh, I remembered know someone made a thread for that time ago. It seems my brain forgot that.

Not only shoujo. I think shounen is not totally for me.
I will only try to watch a mahou shoujo... if it not, depends on the story. If is a mostly romance, nope. I will probably ignore it but other anime, that are not shoujo or shounen, can have a interesting sinopses but have romance start to finish, I will pass too.

I'm a girl and I tend to avoid Romance Shoujo/Josei... I tried watching/reading some but for the life of me I cant get past the first chapters/episodes, there was only one that I watched and I actually liked and it is Amnesia, probably because in the end its up for our interpretation what world she goes to ( or make us go play the game, which is awesome!!! :3), my sis @ShiroAki1997 on the other hand LOVES Romance Shoujo! I do, however, like to watch/read some shoujo/josei with light undertones of shounen-ai, or with no romance whatsoever...

My two cents--Josei is the best demographic, coming from a Male.

Specifically though, demographic is pretty irrelevant to my person.

I'm not trying to avoid it, in truth i want to see it.
*plays kaichou maid-sama*
1 minute later, close it. Cool "Ikemen" guys all over the places, super cute female lead in shojou-style, i can't take it, my mind reject it.

Maybe next time.

Nope. Lately I'm drawn more toward shoujo anime because of how much better they handle their female characters than shounen anime, and because they throw fanservice in your face as much as shounen anime.

I said most, not all. I have found some with well-written females, but they are fewer in number than the generic shoujo type.

I usually avoid romance/rom-co anime, and since shoujo often (but not always) fall into these categories, I generally avoid shoujo as a result. That said, Akatsuki no Yona is in my top 10. And I have Nana on my PTW. The only josei I've seen is Rakugo, which was great.

The only shoujo I remember liking is Akatsuki no Yona.
But I generally hate romance, unless it is BL.
