See, that is an anime that could get an amazing 4k release down the road - IF the negatives still exist. I think those are the most beautiful backgrounds I've seen in anime, I'm holding out to see if it gets a good restoration before I invest in it, though (I watched it on VIki after you recc'ed it). I don't know how Tezuka Productions handled storing their materials, is the thing. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it! It drives me crazy when I hear about studios not properly storing or preserving film elements, especially for animated productions. It's so dumb to put all that work into something just to treat it like shit afterwards. Upscaling always "loses" quality... even if the result can be subjectively "preferred". Upscaling is best left for playback. (similar problem as using SVP to up the framerate prior to encoding...) |
