Wall Of Animu
Our lord and savior and the only anime that matters
Before I start watching a title, the score starts at a 5. From there it goes up if it is better than average, and it goes down if it is below average. This is different from the majority of people, because they start the score at 10 and take a point off for everything they didn't like. This is wrong because this ends up with you giving too high scores to anime that don't deserve it. Because of this the majority of anime end up having a score of 7-8 which is considered average on MAL. After i finish watching a show, I will read a review that gave a high score to the anime, as well as a low score. This is to gather more information to form a better opinion. It is also very interesting to see what the masses thought of a show. After that i will check the forums for some interesting topics. Finally I will check Featured Articles to see what type of baitey mediocrity was written up.
MAL scoring system is also flawed, the range was coded as being 1-10 but it should be 0-10. Math to back this up is found below.
If we take the range and cut it in half we will get
Current system: 1+10/2 = 5.5
Superior system: 0+10/2 = 5
This means that in the current system the average is 5.5, not 5. All anime are slightly skewed to higher rankings because people are not given an option to give 0.
I value characters and plot above all else, this is not to say that animation and sound don't matter. But pretty colors and sounds will never save a trash anime. In fact, it is painful to witness such high budgets wasted on shit. This is also known as the pleb test, if you failed; I’m sorry.
I also don’t believe in relativism, you can enjoy a shit show but that doesn’t stop it from being shit. Do not try to come up with silly excuses to defend your favorite anime.
Anime and hentai breakdown is as follows:
Each criterion is ranked out of 10, independently from each other.
40% Characters; Character advancement and design. This category may be split in half to judge male and female characters separately. I am looking to see if the characters are designed with an image in mind instead of a generic design that was copy pasted. We will remember unique characters until the day we die so it's very important. I am also looking to see if their personalities make sense, and how it fits into the story as well as how they progress and change throughout the anime or hentai. Character development is very important because all characters have to change in accordance to what happened in the previous episodes.
40% Plot; How well the story was explained and if it made sense. This category may be rated per episode and totaled up and averaged for a more accurate score. I am looking to see what the story is about, does it make sense? Is it interesting? A common misconception is that certain anime don't have a plot; wrong. Every anime has a story, even if it’s really boring or not the main focus of the series. For me it’s not important what the story is, what’s important is how well the story is explored and explained. Some anime already set themselves up for failure before they even start airing by having a weak forgettable story. So now you are asking, how can anime like K-ON with shit stories be so successful?! This is because companies are using data mining and statistics to target certain audiences.
10% Art; Includes animation smoothness and pretty colors. Anime is all about animation right? Wrong. In the anime community there is too heavy of an emphasis on animation. This is very bad not only because it helps in the acceptance of bad shows as good, but also because workers are being worked to death to give u the smoothest animation and pretty colors. When rating this category I look at the quality of the animation, I look at how well the colorings filled in and if it fits into the scene. Finally I look at the art. What’s he talking about has he lost it? Yes Pictures can speak many words, and anime is art. That’s why sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and think about what the picture is telling you.
10% Sound; Includes voice acting and music. It’s really rare to find bad voice acting in anime, there are just so many professionals in the industry. Here I am looking to see if the voice acting does justice to what’s happening on screen. When it comes to music I am looking to see if the music fit the scene and flows with the mood. I am also looking for something I will remember and come back to listen in the future. Music is pretty subjective because we all enjoy different types.
What I don’t use to rate a show
0% Enjoyment; this is not to say I’m not biased, this is here to remind people not to rate based on how good an anime made you feel. Now go upvote School Days, pleb. ╭∩╮( ͡° ل͟ ͡° )╭∩╮
0% Hype; I don’t care how popular or unpopular an anime is, I don’t care what year it was made in, I don’t care who wrote it, I don’t care which voice actors are in it. Stop. Hyping. Shit.
0% Sales; I don’t care how financially successful it is. Yes that will determine the continuation of the material, but it doesn’t make the material any better or worse.
(ノ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ノ︵┻┻ Shounentards reaction.
0% Scores; I do not assume something is good/bad if it has a high/low score, I do not care for scores in databases; I only look at them to note what other plebs thought it was.
0% Recommendations; I do not care if anime B is recommended to people who enjoyed anime A. I look at all shows separately and rate them separately; I do compare them to others of the same genre.
0% Awards; I do not care if an anime wins some sort of award from some sort of group.
Am I an elitist and a pretentious overthinker? Yes No. You are supposed to think about what you just watched so you don’t give it a 10/10 like a total pleb. How can you know if something is good if you don’t have criteria to rank it on? Anime should not be ranked based on enjoyment, feelz, waifus or any other nonsense standards we are using today. Objective standards are universal, can be understood by everyone (plebs, elitists, non anime watchers) and makes much more sense in determining if a show was good or not. We can’t force people to think objectively, but that’s something more and more people will come to accept as the universal standard for anime when they get bored of the current trash hype train.
I do not watch airing anime because there is no reason to do so, the only people who do this are people who like to socialize and spend all their times on forums discussing all the little things of a show. This also makes people give higher ratings because they are stuck in a bubble where everyone is wet over how good an episode or waifu is. Dissent is not tolerated by users which results in a flame war and then the mods come in to give you a free ban back to elitism.
It should also be mentioned that I don't drop anime. This is done because I don't feel it's fair to rank based on little information. MAL disagrees with me because if you watch 1/5th (20%) of an anime your opinion matters. This is not good because it promotes small attention spans and doing 4/5th (80%) of the anime injustice. This also promotes the "if you don't like it why do you watch it" mentality. I will not watch season 2 if the first one was shit. This is because the majority of my thoughts would already carry over to the second season. Second seasons are made to already existing fans; this is why they are usually rated higher than the first season regardless of content. Simply put the people who didn't like it are gone.
Anything from a 7-10 is a recommend, 5-6 is a good time waster, 0-4 should be avoided.
Hentai should always be watched regardless of score for scientific purposes.
TL;DR for plebs who have reading disabilities.
Learn more about me.. I don't bite (ง ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ง
Why shows rated so low?
Because most anime is trash, including your favorites.
(ノ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ノ︵┻┻ Sturgeons Law: 90% of everything is trash. It is the 10% of anime that keeps me interested in the medium.
Why don't you review anime?
1) Reviews on MAL prevent downvoting, making the whole system useless.
2) People do not read reviews they do not agree with. Lots of time and effort go into reviews, at least hear them out.
3) The term "review" has lost its meaning because of marketing.
4) The term "review" has lost its meaning becasuse of bloggers pretending to be reviewers.
5) No freedom in reviews.
6) Reviews not being displayed properly becuse it is not coded correctly.
My TL;DR of an anime can be found in the "Tags" section on my list. Refer here for full blog
How do you not forget your waifu?
I keep track of all anime I’ve watched along with characters I enjoyed.
Why so many waifu?
Only plebs have 1 waifu, do I look like a pleb?
