Why the hell was that guy made the commander? Is the army THAT desperate? o.O

He has yet to prove to me he deserves his post.

Well, both Zeon and the Federation lost half of their respective population in the war's first month alone, so I think the army really does need everything they can get.
Just give Shiro some time, he hasn't even gotten used to being on Earth yet. But it's kind of weird that he was selected as commander.
This was a great episode with quite a lot of figthing. I loved the part where Shiro ambushed the Zaku.

Indeed it was some strange choice him being the captain :/
But still, I enjoyed this episode a lot and when Shiro got that Zaku at the end was great.

I laughed when Shiro's perseverance was rewarded with water and naked boobs.

Shiro seems unreliable in person, but command posts are largely decided by results. Here he took out an enemy without damaging his Gundam. Do that everyday for a year-long war, and anyone would be remembered as a hero who fought hundreds. That, and he's very obviously unused to gravity.

"This isn't space." So that's why he decided to sortie in a space suit? Took him a while to figure it out, huh. Still it's hard to believe he's that lucky to end up being promoted all the way to team commander. For now I'm willing to believe he's not used to gravity, but unless he can manage to show some real skill, suspension of disbelief is going down the drain.

One of the unique features of this show is that it is extremely realistic. Shiro is the commander because he is an officer. That is how a real army works, a brand new officer will be put in charge of team that can consist upwards to 50 soldiers who will almost always have much more experience doing the job. Shiro is there to lead, not to be the best fighter. Shiro’s problem is his pride. He wanted to kill that zaku to prove to his soldiers that he is a capable fighter when all his soldiers really wanted was a leader who wouldn’t get them killed.

He probably wore that space suit because that was how he was taught to fight or because that is what the SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) says. Honestly, all of them should be wearing a flame retardant suit of some kind; the few seconds that suit provides could make the difference in getting out of a burning gundam. It doesn’t matter how hot it gets, tankers will still wear their protective gear.

I have to admit that I'm not really impressed with the mobile suit battles so far, I mean either its over in a few seconds like the last episode, or it takes place during nighttime where you can barely see anything, well there's 10 episodes left so I'm sure there's plenty of time for that to change.

Well anyway aside from that this was an okay episode.

Ahh, the 90's when you could see detailed naked boobs.

This was an okay episode. Shiro's battles seem to be a bit too forced in having him in danger since it's hard to believe he missed that huge Zaku when his scope was right on the head. But, I'll give this show the benefit of the doubt... for now.

The 90s were the best time for mankind.

Ahem... Shiro's not a very competent pilot, I'm sure he'll get much better later on but still...

THOSE nipples. Apart from that, this episode sure showed a great deal of Shiro, and I take an interest towards him. While he may still be a 'shiro' (no pun intended), his spirit towards the whole idea of war intrigues me. 4/5, potential.

Great episode!

Shiro is getting used to Earth since he was a spacenoid originally. It kinda made me think, if someone was born and raise and space, how will they react to things like this? Sure this seems an everyday normal occurrence for us, but it wouldn't be the same for spacenoids.

The battles were very guerrilla warfare. No fancy flying moves or impossible shots. Just plain typical war battles using Gundams and Zaku.

I really love the special effects and gun sounds. Very war like ^^

Shiro seems reckless, but he knows what's he's doing.

And yes, i've seen a lot of boobs and nipples in just one episodes, from that girl, to magazines to even the ED.

90s had a lot magazine shot in Anime and Games.

We also saw Aina's brother who maybe related to Zabi. At least Shiro managed to take care of Aina's watch all these time.

Can't wait for the next episode!

I am happy that the hero's pride was hurt as soon as his first sortie, since the series is short. That and the fact the soldier right under him is a woman with more experience (for actual Earth warfare). The discovery of nature / Earth was a good idea.
On another hand, maybe he was fearless and lucky enough to get so high in the military (the shortage of soldiers in the last months certainly help too), but I don't really see his supposed skills here.

Night mission, guerrilla... help to differentiate those OAVs. But what's the point to hide and target precisely a big robot only to most of your shots??
But I was shocked to see THREE Gundam operating in the same unit (it calls back bad memories of shows with multiple overpowered Gundam who lacked any sense of danger for the heroes), who already owns some GMs. Isn't it way too many? Besides, how can they have so many at that time when it is supposed to be only a prototype for the Gundam Mass-produced (GM) who will be really used only a few weeks later? Anyway, bad omen.

The "old" Gundam shows sure loved to add naked girls in water.

Enjoyment: 4/5

@St0rmblade Why all those naked female bodies? How nice, a Gundam virgin. ^^
A mix of "let's pay our due to Gundam tradition!", "it's for video market so we can", "it's the 90s", and the old military cliché.

About the robots, yes it is ! (Reacted a bit too strong about it too ^^") There are "crap/spare parts" later to excuse this, I think.
Probably to sell more (cooler look) and to sell new models (no use for OAVs that do money on their own but well...).
I still want to see this whole "grunt in GM" story peoples made me think about when I was introduced to this series. (even Zeon Zaku grunts got an OAV)

A bit better, but still what an amateur. And I expected more dangerous battles, like setting traps, ambushing, running around, out in the jungle than just walking around and playing hide and seek. It's obvious the anime will be about Amada's naïve perspective, but I want to see more war torn suffering and the harshness of war in such a battleground. 3/5

I wasn't impressed by his team either. Their commander goes MIA for a whole day and no one bothered to check for him b/c it would look bad? lol okay.

Funny how too the commander states for no one to be a lone hero, yet that's exactly what he did in the first episode. Whatevs. I'm in this series to the end, so whatevs.

They have spaceships, giant robots but didn't bother to equipt them with airconditioning?

The MC is annoying and acts like a greenhorn, how did he even manage to get his rank with that rambo attitude?

And is it just me or is the pacing of this show extremely fast?
The dialogues are short, weak and mostly meaningless.

Interesting setting, cool visuals, although too dark here and there and fighting scenes could be more clear, but the characters and story aren't that impressive to far.

Loving how slow and clunky the mechas are in this show. The sound design matches them well.

Shiro is sure not the smartest guy, just leaving his Gundam in the forest, lol.
Also, that chance encounter...Funny that the girl didn't even bother to hold her gun properly because she thought that covering her breast with one hand was more important than having a stable grip on the pistol. Was this girl one of the locals? Looks like that, according to the OP.

It's also funny how this show just throws naked women in your face, like, for what reason? I get that soldiers have that sort of posters with them, alright! No need to overdo it. Posters, the orange-haired girl (she looked like Ed from Bebop btw), ED, that's a whole pack.

Also, why the hell are there so many Gundams there? Isn't the show taking place during operation Odessa, when Amuro's Gundam was one of a kind or something like that? That's weird, seems to contradict the original trilogy's plot.

@ReiIII

All explanations for naked bodies make sense, though I'm not yet familiar with that "Gundam tradition" haha. But if that's the case, I'm gonna speculate that pilot suits are going to be exploited too, which is the case e.g. in Yamato and is very obvious (helps sell figurines and all that)

I for one liked this better than the first episode. Shiro and Aina's insta-chemistry if not downright mutual attraction was a bit forced IMO.

I like the jungle warfare, such a breath of fresh air compared to the usual space battles. I mean I love Newtypes duking it out in space as much as the next guy, but the guerilla battles are so interesting to follow here.

Shiro staring at a bathing girl is a bit creepy, but on the other hand, I like the fish out of water trope here. From the last episode, it's been established that he's competent if a reckless pilot. Along with his unfamiliarity with the jungle terrain and gravity, it's natural that his new team would second-guess his competence.

Karen Joshua and Sanders the Reaper seem like pretty cool characters to me. The team interactions also feel grounded and believable, not everyone can get along right away, but I like that they have pretty fleshed-out personalities.

The pacing was slow this time but I like it. Shiro meet a new girl, i wonder her role in this anime.

Well, at least Shiro managed to return alive again after his heartfelt speech.

Fun fact: There's not only Big Mom's seiyuu as Joshua, but also Kaido's as Sanders. I got curious and checked the cast to find Whitebeard's seiyuu, the late Kinryuu Arimoto. If Char was in this anime as well it would feature all 4 OG Yonkou.

Currently available legally on GundamInfo

Shiro's really unfamiliar with Earth, doing things like wearing a pilot suit in a tropical climate when all his subordinates wear fatigues.

I didn't pick up on it when I first saw the OVA 11 years ago, the reason the Aina's watch beeps when Shiro was watching Kiki skinny dip is because Aina had it set to remind Ginias to take his medicine (Aina didn't have her watch, so she depended on the clock chiming). It also beeps at sunset.

I'm just here for the story and interesting spetical. The fanservice took me off guard, since most Mobile Suit Gundam series don't have fanservice from what I've seen so far, which threw me off . I'm only here for good story and good world building. I enjoy the set up of characters and the mystery in this episode. Pretty good. Just why fanservice thou lol? Anyways probably because I'm not the target demographic for that stuff, I'm not into fanservice. But I'm enjoying this Gundam series for it it's interesting premise. Has a little bit of a cowboy bebop vibe to it, idk if it's the artstyle or if it's the same artist to cowboy bebop, just kinda reminded me of it.
