I don't have a large enough screen size to notice properly the difference between 720p and 1080p, so I usually pick 720p.

With seasonals I use to stick to 720p.

For old anime or movies whatever best quality is available, even if a show from the 70s takes 50Gb of my HD.

Usually the best quality I'm able to find, but if it's x265 HEVC, it won't play on my TV, so I avoid videos with those codecs, and I'm too cheap to buy a UHD Blu-ray player to bypass the problem.

I always watch in 720p or higher. I will spend hours looking for HD episodes. I won't give up until I found it. It is very frustrating sometimes.
I don't want to watch 480p or less because it felt like an insult to the animators for their hard work. Also, not fun watching blur animations, it is very irritating.

The highest available quality so usually 1080p for all anime that came out in the past decade even though my crappy VGA monitor is only 1600x900. If I ever want to lay down on the bed and watch I have a 1080p TV in the other side of the room and I go through a weird cable setup to make it work

Normally I download all the anime I watch in 720p, because that's good enough for watching on my laptop screen. I only download 1080p if I plan to watch the show on my TV.

highest possible stream I can find. usually 720p or 1080p when its on amazon/netflix. But I dont really see a difference.

I really want to see Gundam Thunderbolt in all its 4k glory though.

Since I switched from Plasma to OLED I notice a lot of jutter though and I constantly have to switch the true motion options around when I watch BD, stream or normal series. Its annoying and I considered going back to my Panasonic Plasma because of it.

I rarely watch anime on TV though (other than BDs) mostly on tablet and thats fine.

For TV Series 720p is generall enough since the 1080p versions are just upscales, not produced in that resolution.

For movies and remastered BD versions of oldies where they re-scanned the cels in HD, 1080p is a must.
I probably regret this post by now.

1080p. Even on mobile i torrent 1080p with a 1 TB dataplan just to f around and see if it worked, somehow torrenting on mobile works, got a friend to set it up.

Got 2 1080p monitors at home and a small laptop with a 1080 screen on it, nothing less than 1080p / HD.

Might drop down to 720p if anime websites do it.. or im just lazy and wont torrent anime.
Somehow not depressed.

Aren't broadcast TV 1080p episodes just an upscale from 720p?

Maybe I am misinformed but I think that most of the TV shows are natively produced in 720p.
So only movies and some of the OVAs are worth watching in 1080p.

Also I heard that there are some native 4K TV productions (mostly 3D CGI shows) but they are only few for now.
So mainly movies can get true 4K editions.

In my opinion there is no point to stream from Crunchy, Netflix, Amazon, HiDive or whatever in resolution higher than 720p unless it's a movie or a show which you know it was produced in higher resolution (like Ultraman 2019 I think?).

Yeah that might be true for seasonal anime. But if you find completed anime that are released on bluray. Will you choose 1080 or 720p BD?

I don't get the question.
Aren't all BDs in 1080p (and UHD BD in 4k)? There is nothing to choose from?

The source for the streaming services is the broadcast one. If they latter add some bonus OVA episode it could be derived from the BD edition but it would be produced in 720p too, so no point to watch it 1080p.
Yes you could watch all the episodes in 1080p if you internet is stable enough and don't have some limitations but I don't see the point.

And yes some OVA episodes (but usually ones made outside of the TV production cycle) could be made in 1080p. You stream them in 1080p.

And yes, the BD editions are preferable because usually they have some fixes, censoring removed, no visible compression like in the stream version ect.
Definitely better than the the TV stream but also they are kind of expensive to import (no local editions of anime in my country, only some DVDs of Miyazaki and Kon), I can't afford them.

I don't even own a BD player. I borrow one along with the disks from a friend: mainly anime movies, very few anime series (mostly remastered old tiles).
And he has UHD BD player too (so he doesn't mind me borrowing the old one) + some live action UHD stuff but I don't have a 4k TV.

Some.. uhm.. 'sources' don't fill put the entire screen. It just kind of fills a bar in the middle. The difference between 480p and up at that size is like nothing.

Fair, that's true. I guess I just never bother to go up, or don't mind the difference? Even on YT I go 480 usually.

If I'm watching a seasonal like Kimetsu then 1080.

As long as it's not interpolated to 60 FPS, I don't really care.
It can even be 480p, if it's under the 24 frames standard.

But I typically watch in 1080p on a Full HD TV, so there's no upscaling being done. Regular torrent quality.

usually 480 but the important part is how the video was ripped, recently Download got a new LD rip, and it looks like a clean dvd release, old one had all the problems and mistakes you can think of such as - low bitrate, terrible ghosting low res, and im pretty sure it had frame skip. It was an early arr rip so for the time it was a miracle it even existed much like samurai gold, but yeah most of the time im in standard definition, 720p BD scans are great but we need more of them

Generally 1080p, 720p is as low as I'd go for TV series. On some OVAs or specials, I'm willing to go with 480p. For shows that I'm hyped for or seem interesting, 1080p is standard.

Well it depends on the file sizes and availability.

1080p if a) I can get it & b) if the file size is reasonable (like, 400mb per episode is my max).

If those two parameters aren't met then it's 720p.

Wouldn't go any lower than that unless I was watching it on a phone.

I prefer to stream anime at 144 to 480 pixels and pixels equal or greater than 576 are subjective to me.

Because I have a lot of work to do, I have to stream anime at 1.5x or greater but with the pixel range of 144-480p. Btw, I don't have a gaming rig or a computer with a price tag that is equal or greater than 200 euros.

(Side note: i usually watch my anime on good quality 27inch 120hz Asus gaming monitor)
