Hello! My name is James and I'm from the North East of England. Out in the world I'm currently looking to put my recent degree in Biomedical Science to use and get a job in science. A few years of working crappy office jobs convinced me there was more to life than just "getting by". Some of my hobbies outside of anime include jujitsu (currently brown belt), running, the outdoors, cinema and reading.

Although it's highly irrelevant here I feel like I should mention I am into kink/BDSM. I used to get out and about to meets/parties/stuff on my local scene. Haven't had chance in a long while though. I mean you never know where you're gonna meet someone who's interested in you and vice versa so it's probably best to get this straight up front because who knows? Stranger things have happened. In case you were wondering what my D/s orientation is, click the button.
If you have a burning desire to see what I look like my Instagram is linked somewhere on the left.
I'm relatively new to anime/manga but it's really gripped me. It's kinda cool to explore a whole new media, even if it means going through a few crap shows to find the good ones! This account is mainly for me to keep track of the endless recommendations gleaned from YouTube But I'm always up for making new friends (even if it's only online) too!
I doubt there will be many people on this site close to my actual location but given that literally none of my friends have any kind of interest in anime having the option of chatting to people online about it is the next best thing, so if anyone reading has any solid recommendations or just fancies a bit chinwag then send me a message :)
My Score System
A sliding scale with four checkpoints. 10, above 5, below 5 and 0. I'll mention my own internal criteria for these scores below and any deviation from these numbers is due to how well the anime executes certain things, e.g. a show with a score of 8 will have better pacing/writing that a show scoring a 5. My own individual taste also influences the scores I give shows I've watched. I'll only ever deviate by 1 point for taste, so a score of 7 based on the criteria below might get an 8 if I really enjoyed the show.
Exceptional pacing, well executed original concept, gorgeous animation/art style and an engaging, well written story line with nuanced characters that show development over the course of the show. If it's a comedy, is it funny? In my opinion shows that receive this score are the pinnacle of what anime is capable of and are fit to rival any other form of entertainment media out there.
Well paced, well animated with a good art style and an entertaining plot/characters. Writing quality is generally good, tropes are handled well and although some elements may be mismatched (i.e. comedy segments in a show with serious themes) they do not detract from the show and may in fact add to it.
Sketchy pacing and an over-reliance on tropes/deux ex machinas to either set the scene or develop the plot. An art style or animation that feels generic. Characters that are either one dimensional, badly written or have motives that do not correlate with the overall plot. Somewhat entertaining but feels like a slog to get through.
Completely irredeemable trash that is either morally repugnant or is so poorly written/incoherent that you wonder if the writers of the show were on LSD when it was in production. Animation quality is basic and the art is either bland or offensive. Characters are unsympathetic with no clear motivation and/or lack any form of defining characteristics.
If you're reading this and feel like I've scored a show you like poorly or a show you hate highly then I'd love to hear your thoughts about it :)
