I dont really enjoy horror. I never liked to be scared and dont think I ever will. I don't think ecchi anime are ever good but I do enjoy them, and as I am intellectualist I enjoy anime with great stories that involve a deeper meaning. Horror anime apply to the human instincts(fear) therefore I will not like them.

That's a big misconception when it comes to shonens, actually. Even the big name ones usually balance out both. Usually. lolBleach

OT: if my list is anything to go by, I guess ecchi/harems for the most part?

Ecchi, Harem, and "pure" Comedies are my least favorite types.

I can look passed ecchi if it isn't too excessive and it doesn't bother me, but when it goes overboard, it can ruin a series. If I want to get aroused by anime, I'll just watch hentai :P.

(Most) Harems are just complete nonsense. Tons of attractive girls competing over one regular dude. If the MC was a celebrity, rich, extremely powerful it could at least make a little bit of sense. Most of the time though, the MC is the type of character that would be the least likely to ever have girls obsessing over him. Yet, there he is, waist deep in snatch with no clue as to what to do with it, lol. There are a few harems that I have enjoyed and harem elements in other anime are fine if they are done right.

By pure comedy, I mean something that is comedy and very little of anything else. Basically, a series created purely for laughs. I just don't find foreign comedy very funny most of the time. If I want comedy, I watch western shows. It is just a personal taste thing as comedy is the most subjective element in any form of media, imo.

No, Haikyuu!! does not. Also, 90% of sports anime are normal and even considered realistic. Don't watch Kurobas, Prince of Tennis, Area no Kishi, or Inazuma Eleven if you hate the superpowers trend.

Harem - I've only ever watched ONE harem that was actually good, and that was Ouran Highschool host club, but like the rest are so stupid, like OOOHHH MYYY GOD!!

shounen/seinen romance comedies - they just consist of guys "tripping" over and grabbing a boob, or just copious amounts of sexual connotations, and also guys constantly talking about boobs. it just makes me want to barf

hentai yuri - some yuri animes are good, if they're like the cute yuri ones where it's a drama and there's romance and there's actually a story behind it, but like yuri hentai animes are just disgusting in my opinion

Mecha. The whole 'people piloting giant robots' genre can go die in a fire. It's pointless, boring and to some extent even childish. Maybe I just watched the wrong shows and I'm sure there are some out there that might be worth watching, but whenever I try a mecha show, I always end up bored, so I honestly don't care anymore.

Sports would be second. I'm not really a huge fan of shows that take sports overly serious, or where it's pretty much the only focus. There are exceptions, but those are mostly when I don't have to take it overly serious (like the mahjong in Saki) or when there are other factors involved and the sport takes a bit of backseat (like how Ro-Kyu-Bu was more about the cute lolis than playing basketball).

For me it's psychological anime.

They tend to be really uncomfortable, dealing with issues like rape and incest. As such they tend to lean farther into the dark and edgy section than I like.

They tend to be rather mindscrewy and don't properly explain what's going on, or use abstract symbolism no one in the world could understand. (why does Miki keep timing things on his stopwatch?) I would personally prefer a show weave an intricate tale and then wrap things up neatly in the end, than chuck together a bunch of symbolism and leave the viewers to clueless piece together ideas on what happened.

The characters are also usually of the dysfunctional variety, which allows them to have complex problems but more often than not keeps me from liking them. If it's from a genre where the protagonists would typically be at the center of the action (like a mecha series) you can expect the protagonist to do anything but. They'll either be too scared to take action or their attempts to do so will be largely ineffectual.

Harem. I used to love harem genre but I can't watch it nowadays without cringing so hard at the cliches it has.

"One must die and one must live. No victory, no defeat. The survivor will carry on the fight. It is our destiny... The one who survives will inherit the title of Boss. And the one who inherits the title of Boss will face an existence of endless battle."

I don't really have any hated genre.. but if I had to try really hard to hate a specific genre (Excluding Yaoi obviously and Yuri to some extent) I'd say Ecch that rely on the repetitive stupid clich and have no sign of plot at all.
The anime industry is dead, the otaku fanbase killed it.

You should try the horror anime higurashi no naku koro ni. It doesn't have great animation but the story makes more than up for it.

OT: Probably harem. Nothing innovating or enjoyable to be found there. It's also rather predictable (Yes all genres have a certain sense or predictability, but with harem it's just even worse.)

Have you seen Akagi? It's a psychological thriller that I, for one, think is a bit on the softer side but still very enjoyable =D

As for the other genres, I can't vouch for them...(-_-).

I can't stand Mecha (not even Code Geass). I was a little more tolerant when I was younger but dropped it shall stay. Really, don't bother talking me into picking it back up...

Runner up would be Sci-fi. Now, before you hate (or is it too late?), hear me out. Most cases (not all) the story can get one-sided. At least with Supernatural, the "beings" have rather humane qualities. But can you feel for mindless little nanobots conspiring to take over? I think not.
I want to be scared over things that can happen in my lifetime thank you.

Last would be ecchi. I can handle minute amounts like in Beelzebub but don't push it.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
I might be crazy. So, what's the problem?

generic harems are annoying at times but I'd say for me it'd be hentai, mecha then ecchi series. I've watched plenty of each don't get me wrong, it's just that they don't have that appeal for me as other genre's do.

Most users rate anime based only on their personal enjoyment. So if they find a show to be enjoyable they will give it a high score regardless of the plot. Nobody can deny that harem is a bad genre...
