| I was liking this episode, and I was very excited and everything but then they began dragging it out by exaggerating everything about Murasakibara, and making him seem like a wall, and it just wasn't fun for me anymore. I mean I know hes tall and his wingspan is long but I felt they were over doing it a bit. But thats KnB for ya! Slaps for everyone! I laughed when I saw they all were slapped. funny! Great episode none the less. I'm still super hyped for whats about to go down next. Can't wait! |

| And KnB is becoming more and more ridiculous as it progresses! I thought most NBA players have Murasakibara's enormous build? But I don't see any of them having such a wide range of defense before. I am still sad with the lack of any Kise action in this entire season. =( |

| Great episode, just one team left to see play after this. It's hard to believe high school basketball teams in Japan could be so good. I'd like to see the NBA equivalent in the Kuroko universe. |

| damn i hate this team more than anything. Kakami's "brother" is basically an ass and that i have a huge hate against privileged huge guys in basketball cause as a short guy playing basketball was very annoying seeing them and having them use those huge bodies against you. But all this speed doesn't work stuff is bullshit. No one is that good. Speed is the a decent tactic against huge guys since the smaller size allows you to be faster in reflexes. On the other hand this is the anime that has a guy that never misses even from further than half court distance so whatever. |

| Lol @ Riko slapping the shit out of her team, she has been my favorite female character in this series so far but it looks like she is getting competition. Yosen coach looks boss and I like how she is in full control of her titans. Hirumo is acting like a drama queen, wtf is his problem?! So Kagami lost because he didn't want to lose him as a brother, cry me a river -_- This season is really missing Kise, just hope that his matches in season 3 will be worth not seeing him play now. |

On top of many genre cliches and tropes, how many times have we specifically seen this in Bleach: -Here's my special move -Zoom out to mountain/building exploding -Where is he? -I'm right behind you -Look that indicates foreboding sense of doom -Skip to another fight (forced cliffhanger) Not to mention all the 'fight a 100 generals to reach a damsel in distress' story arcs that stretch over years. I don't hate Bleach. Just saying that if you really tried, any anime can be described in terms of certain worn out cliches (there are probably a few exceptions though) . Shifts in momentum happen in any team-based sports. In fact, most, if not all of the classic games in real life team sports involve these large see-saw shifts in momentum where each team took turns to dominate for minutes or even entire quarters/halves. Also, sports manga suffer from many narrative restraints. Special moves can't be repeated too often, yet the moves and tactical battles must be kept fresh and unpredictable (to a certain extent) so new moves and new tactics are a must. Would be boring to see Aomine repeatedly shooting from behind the backboard, Kiyoshi making the same post-moves or the stealth man to man defense used over and over. Getting into the zone itself may be predictable, but what the player does while in the zone is not. |

Of course, the way in which this series represents those aspects is simplified and exaggerated for entertainment purposes - which is why ElenirLachlagos' comment is not far off the mark. Kuroko no Basket doesn't deal in simple changes in momentum; but rather every little thing could be possibly be "fatal" to Seirin's chances of winning. There are no simple adjustments in play style either - every new strategy or technique is a "trump card" to the point that it is almost farcical how many trump cards any given team can hold. Still, I don't mean to rag on the show - no one comes into this expecting realism nor is it a surprise that each of the matches plays out in a rather formulaic way. What matters for series like these is the execution. Can you still find yourself invested and interested in what is happening even if you know how things are generally going to play out? I think this anime actually does a pretty good job on that front and keeps things entertaining enough as the Winter Cup plays out in an almost inevitable fashion. So, the most important question here is not whether Kuroko no Basket is cliched (which is certainly the case) but rather, to quote the film Gladiator: Are you not entertained? |
