I finally get to watch it after a long wait as originally I read manga already... but now forgetting most of the story I can enjoy the anime fully.

But truly, comparing to animes that come nowadays, this is absolute greatness. It's surely not better in all aspects and I appreciate anime for what it is today but somehow GTO and some other old series really are different.

(Well I guess comparing a greatness of GTO that stood the test of time to what I watch mostly recently watch "seasonal anime that will soon be forgotten" might be not fair. Comparing GTO to best series like... well in last year it would be OPM might be fairer. So comparing the two, well I guess it's about equal but it's me saying this after two episodes.)

Then again, it's not that old series are this great... only GTO truly emphasises on that G at the start.

People keep calling this an old series. It's from 2000 lol. Anyhow, greatly enjoying it so far. It's just so far over the top that it's amusing, while still maintaining serious undertones.

Nice episode.
I like how this anime focuses on the etfects of verbal abuse on so-called "troublesome" students and the importance of giving them a chance. It is hard to become somebody when the whole world expects you to be nobody.

From GDO to GTO. Onizuka sensei gets the job from the principal.
German surplex, what a badass he is, and I like his character more. That vice principal deserves it.I think it will get more interesting next episode.

I was fully expecting that he would hit the vice principal instead but I didn't expect him to do a suplex!

It's amazing that he survived after driving so recklessly.

Seeing the asshole vice principal get his ass handed to him with that German Suplex by Onizuka was awesome, but seeing the chairperson actually reference Karl Gotch made this episode even sweeter for me. She was awesome, and I'm so glad that she gave him the job. Fuyutsuki was also lovely.

Man, Now I want a spin off series in an alternate timeline of Great Driver Onizuka

The look on his face when a teaching opportunity opened up was priceless

Dude broke every traffic law imaginable just to make it on time to interview for his dream job. This is passion. I felt really bad for the guy in the passenger seat though lol
Also If I had Drivers High spontaneously playing in the background I think I could pull off a suplex. No chance I comply with him there, props to Onizuka for sticking up for them knowing it would destroy his chances.

After episode 1 Onizuka could've just gotten a job off-screen or with a small scene showcasing it but no, we got an entire episode dedicated to him landing a job and it was epic. Great Teacher Onizuka truly is great. And the anime's story barely started yet. Off to a great start.

Yup, GTO is very much in line with absurdist comedies that are fairly realistic in setting, but stray just a tad bit into insanity to spice things up. By the time Onizuka was tearing through Tokyo with the entire police force pursuing him as he raced to the teaching interview, I was laughing my ass off.

At the same time, Mrs. Sakurai brought up a lot of real issues in education, ranging from delinquency and bullying to problems between opposite sex students and outright violence, even against teachers. Although this series was written over 2 decades ago, these issues are still prevalent in schools. In fact, they're probably worse nowadays, given the extra complications with social media. I don't exactly know how real GTO will get with these issues, but I'm curious to see Onizuka's solutions.

As a side note, I loved Mrs. Sakurai nonchalantly sitting on Onizuka's stomach while he was in his thinking bridge pose. There was no commentary or punch line to it, she just sat on him, then got off. Hell, she even asked first and Onizuka offhandedly agreed without skipping a beat. There was no reason for that scene, which made it all the more hilarious.

Ryuji is such a boss.

Yeah, in hindsight it was obvious foreshadowing that this old guy was going to be superior to him in Eikichi's future job, even if it's bad that to remember that he acted like such a pervert. LOL, those typos and declarations, this job interview is a masterpiece, more or less like Spud's one from Trainspotting.

"you should just enroll as a student, not as a teacher". DAMN. No punch in the face, it was just a painting. But... yeah, it's already time to introduce the great principal character and to give Uchiyamada a surprising lesson (in hindsight... seriously, how could someone like him to be hired to begin with?). Not gonna lie, even without having been directly called "waste" myself (well, for what i can remember being almost 40 now) i can confirm some "people" should have never worked in education and can have a seriously toxic influence on the kids. No surprising how some can become delinquents like those and seek revenge, and it was satisfying to watch how they didn't want to destroy everything anymore when Onizuka made that move and speech.

"you can't return from Akita in time at this point, so... good luck GDO" And thus GDO aborts his newfound mission.

Yeah, again suspension of disbelief for how those road felonies are going to be cleared, but who cares, even if i'm sorry for that truck driver.

"Can i sit down?" WHAT? Didn't remember this part. "Two run-ins with the law enforcement? Oh, well... you're hired." Sakurai is so cool. She also does the Genko Ikari pose, come on.

It's GREAT! how Amazon Prime Video doesn't even upload the next episode automatically when the ED starts, it's like it doesn't want to skip it itself (yeah, never skipping it is the right thing to do).

this was a lot more palatable than last episode.
so i'm kinda glad about that.
i have no problem with the crazy antics and the suspension of disbelief needed here, it's 2000's anime after all and i loved anime for it back then. the thing is always the framing of some sensitive subjects, and i'm glad this got lighter.
hoping it continues this way.
