Would you find it weird if someone older than you (25+) watched anime?

No,
Hell i am going to be, naruto is not gonna be finished until i am 30 + same with things like bleach so i will pretty much still be watching evenif it ends up as just those,

Anime is a media style, its like asking, will you still read books at 60?
My parents always taught me not to talk to strangers............Well, that went well didnt it?

In my opinion if you still live with your parents after 25 and they are SUPPORTING you, then maybe its time to stop watching anime lol. As long as your able to support yourself and function as a human then you can watch it until your death imo.

Personally, I don't really think it's weird although I can't really picture people older than 25 years enjoy watching anime with their free time.

One of my friend's younger sister has a teacher who watches anime. Now, anime has a broad variety of genres but I can't help thinking that most people will focus on something more cute, which I definitely think gives off a bad vibe if you are a teacher if you know what I mean.

Ehmm... I am older than 25..and I am a teacher.. and I love anime.
Can't help it. Sure, people--even my closest friends-- think that I'm a little weird. I've given up trying to abandon anime since long ago.
I don't see a reason why teachers who watch cute anime suppose to give off bad vibe.. It doesn't have any bad influence to me as far as I know..Watching (cute) anime doesn't make me do criminal things.
Trust me, there's no Kokonoe Rin in my class even though I also teach 3rd grade ^_^

If it's not those slice of life, ecchi, hentai, kawaii stuff.. then no, I wouldn't find it weird. There are some quite amazing action, thriller, psychological, horror, etc animes.

As a 25+ person.... am I being called old? xD

No, I know quite a lot of people older than me that watch anime, and there's all kinds of people. Some enjoy mainly the most popular stuff like SAO, SNK, Death Note and shounens, some have watched more and developed a taste (some more similar to me, some different), people who work (from temp workers to CEOs), people who study (a good number of careers)... so no, I think it's absolutely normal, and it will get more and more common with time.

Years ago you didn't find older people that much into anime because they really didn't have the access people have now (starting with the people of my generation and some a little bit older). Anime wasn't much of a thing in the West before the 90s and there was obviously no internet, so people didn't get much into it. Specially since the second half of the 90s, anime became quite common on TV and eventually, internet came and people began downloading anime. Newer generations that are still 20 years or younger pretty much don't know life without internet and have had access to anime since they can remember, which will definitely translate in a lot of "older" people watching anime in the future.

Well it depends on what the person is watching, my brother is 28 and still watches anime but he watches higurashi Dbz and inuyasha two he grew up with but I think it's fine if someone over twenty watches anime

So who watch seinen anime?

The only problem is that you will critisize more the actitudes of the characters

Now, yeah of course the people who make anime shows are usually in their mid-30s and up but I sort of think of that as a different demographic. I am just talking about a casual everyday working/non-working person in their late 20s and up.

I would really like to hear from someone who is older than 25 about this subject.

How old are you now??

Also at 25+ is when you start behaving like an old person. You come back home from work totaly destroyed and open the fridge take a drink and a pizza and sit and watch anime (or football, or porn ;) ) till you get sleepy

Na it's not weird (I'm 26) considering the content for a lot of anime has adult themes and a large amount of manga writers and animators, voice actors, etc are well in their forties it isn't weird at all.

Anime isn't Dora the explorer, now that would be weird lol.

Berserk
Claymore
Elfen Lied
Code Geass
Death Note

Just to name a few

I'm 44, and I am a weirdo, but that has nothing to do with it. All my life, I have been interested in animation as an art form, and I have always liked good stories, weirdness, and comedy, so anime is a natural fit for me. I'm sure I will still be watching it when I'm far older and even more decrepit than I already am, and it will help to keep me entertained while I'm laying around in a retirement home waiting to die.

I am 25+. And no, it's not weird. Just because you're older doesn't mean you suddenly stop liking things you used to. Same when kids think people shouldn't be playing videogames when they turn 20. Like, you what?

No it's fine because after all if I go to a Pokémon TCG tournament and see people in their 40s and up playing, then it should be fine with anything XD...back on topic now, I'm going to be 25 in 5 years but I really don't see myself stopping because of all the variety anime offers and I enjoy anime.

[joke]
Normal People are a terrorist group that is banned in my country. People are legally required to be addicted to something, so those of us who aren't gamers, anime lovers, drug addicts or something are forced to drink vodka a lot.
[/joke]

Seriously, anime is a form of entertainment, and people want entertainment at any age. The fact your grandfather prefers reading lengthy books just means that books were popular when he grew up, not that you will be required to read lengthy books when you're his age.
Unless your preferred form of entertainment stays locked in a "animation age ghetto" (see TVtropes) by over-active legislators, like western cartoons tend to be, there is no reason for you to abandon it as you age. Remember - your favorite authors also age at the same rate, and make things for older audiences.
Also, as you age, you would be less willing to adapt to stuff, and more willing to continue doing whatever you're used to doing.

Personal story: I'm 29. I watch anime. I don't have as much time for anime as when I was in the university, because I have a proper job, but I still watch anime. I no longer have the patience for long-running shounens, but I do have patience for slice-of-life cute-girls-doing-cute-things.

Something I've noticed in the MAL community is that you guys just love to assume and label things. No, it's not weird for someone who's 30 years old or older to watch anime or read manga. I just turned 34 and I watch anime and read manga on a daily basis. Apparently here on MAL if you love anime and manga and you're over 30 that means you're a NEET or a Hikikomori or you're jaded or have issues...Really?! And if you're a NEET or a Hikikomori or jaded or have issues...Who cares?! You can't judge or label people you don't know.

Anime and manga are just another form of entertainment. Just like watching The Walking Dead or Marvel movies, or loving Doctor Who or playing video games. Are you weird because you are a certain age and like any of these things? No, no you're not.

I'm bloody older than 25, I'm still watching anime and reading comics, and I have friends who's exactly the same, some of them do it even more than me. So no, it's not weird at all. It's a bloody entertainment, what's else I supposed to do when I'm alone and need to rest? Meditate? Sorry, not that Asian enough.

There is such thing as shit taste. Only idiots think that every "work of art" should have the same value.

I think tastes change with age. I myself started late with anime. With 19/20 years.

So I never watched anime aimed at children. Neither One Piece or Naruto or something like that. My obsession with yaoi made me watch anime. So I still mostly watch yaoi shows.

But since there are not much yaois out there, I watch other genres. Mostly historical, psychological or drama. I like he 'mature' shows. I marathoned MONSTER. It was great (I study in Heidelberg and recognized the amazing backgrounds/artwork). I wished there were more shows like Monster.

And yes, I agree. It is a hobby. So it's not bound to age. I am sure there are much more 'childish' hobbies out there than watching anime.

You are right I think. The Yaoi fandom is something basically different. Although the medium is the same.
