People using the excuse of the first 3 episodes probably which haven't been as good. People had no patience and dropped it early.

In context only of first 6 episodes - yes, BUT ...
The first 6 series was rather too complicated or just confused. And the watcher can misunderstand what is going on. Like was with me
But right after that, starting from 7 episode tangle began to unravel, and you suddenly stating to understand whole things, and moments from first episodes. And it's unnecessary to say that right after that this show becomes more and more interesting very next episode )

holy fuck this episode was just top notch, This really might wind up getting an 8 from me if this goes on quite like it has, this episode was just so suspenseful and near the end out right hype.

its a damned shame to see this series so underappreciated, its up there with kekkai as my fav of the season, though both shows i worry how they will wrap up. how many episodes of punchline are left, i could of sword it was 11 but seeing how this ep ended theres no way they can conclude everything in 1 episodes, i hope its a 13 episodes series but i guess a 12 episode one could conclude everything nicely.

This show is is the best example how you should ride every show to the end just incase it turns into something good or even great. After episode 5 this show took off and now has gone from being on the "maybe drop" list to a 8/10 (posssible 9 depending on how it ends) type anime.

Seeing how Guriko cares about Chiyoko and Pine even after all she went through was great.

How Pine went from gave up and succumbing to fate, then to find himself and confirming his determination to Chiyoko.

Knowing that all the Pines went through a similar state of despair, and how the previous Pine that failed, just all comes together to form quite the powerful thought.

Hope Chiyoko's wish to share tranquil days with Guriko is granted :/

Wait, Guriko didn't lock Yuta up? Maybe she is that confidence in her plan, or just careless. That injection from last episode seems more pointless.

That damn cat should have known this already! More than 6 billion time loops and only now he discovers that the Q-may group installed that instrument onto the antenna? But wait, the way he is explaining it feels more like he knows it already and just explaining it to Yuta, if so, why don't you tell this to Yuta so that he would not go after Guriko, and btw if wasn't because Yuta disobeyed your orders not to do anything without your permission to change the timeline, we would never find out the group's plot, an important piece of information for audience to understand the story, but it's contradictory to the goal and motive of the characters. The cat didn't want Yuta to do anything, if Yuta did anything without his permission he would fail, but Yuta cannot just sit there and repeat what happened in the last time line because we know what's gonna happen, and now the show is just rely on Yuta's disobedient to tell the story, that would result in his dead, but he would still reasonably fail if he didn't. I don't how but Uchikoshi somehow managed to create a paradox other than the time paradox.

"The future of human lies in their hands..." then why do you impose such restriction on Yuta's decision making? If he is the only one can make different decisions in the time loop.

How's your broken rib cage? So you were faking it, right?

I would care more if Yuta is not such a tool and bland character, his only defining trait is that he wants to save everyone, and Mikatan is just way underdeveloped, not only she just accepted what Meika told her to do in the first place, what's her struggle and thoughts on the whole self-sacrificing for the greater good thing? There's lots of opportunities for development, is this what Uchikoshi called "characters"?

Train wreck! Subtle.

Turn off the music. I want this scene to be just Yuta being delusional. That would be hilarious.

How does Uchikoshi wrap up everything in just one episode? Second season? No.

Just "7" (at best) for me. Show has a few too many "build-up" episodes and the characters are just tolerable without really being outstanding. My interest in Punchline mainly comes from the narrative and how it's a show about fighting fate, along with the subtle jabs this show takes at post-war Japan and how it's still affecting its youth.

Actually, it could be argued that Yuta is a representation of the hopeful side of post-war Japan's youth, struggling to look on the bright side despite Japan's failing economy and overall treatment of its young even to this day due to the country's inability to completely move on from WWII, as opposed to Mikatan (who's succumbed to Japan's current problems and can only fight a losing battle), and Guriko (who thinks that Japan is beyond saving altogether). When I look at him like that, he's kinda interesting to me. I agree his personality could use some work though.

I don't think it's a matter of patience. The setting is wacky as hell, which is a turn off for a lot of people. On top of that, Uchikoshi Kotaro's comedy isn't that funny for the most part. I mean, the cat porn scenes were hillarious, but still.

Most of his fans on gamefaqs were actually surprised he was working on a show like this. I don't think anybody like this change in tone, in fact most were pretty skeptical. I believe this unusual setting makes it easier for him to come up with new plots twists, so that may have been one of the reasons behind his choice... but it's still one of his worst settings. This story doesn't hold a candle to any of his best works in my opinion, except for Never7. But then again, N7 isn't nearly as interesting as anything else he wrote and most of those who read it are actually fans anyway.

When I look at him like that, he's kinda interesting to me. I agree his personality could use some work though.

Or even, Ito is supposed to represent the frustration of the Japanese Government trying to grant its Self-Defence Force more power to combat the increasing military challenge posed by the Chinese military, which in the eyes of the neighboring countries is a "taboo", and Ito is wrongfully bullied because of that.

Meika, a brilliant computer hacker and engineer, can also be interpreted as the notion of technology isn't always reliable, especially in the wrong hands. The way Meika's action being the most critical is a reflection of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, over confident on technology is very dangerous, something that not only the Japanese, but all of us, should be aware of.

And last but not least, may I suggest that Rabura represents the conflict of Japanese traditional beliefs and culture trying to survive the modernization of Japan given how she is a gyaru but also an exorcist? The way she doesn't believe in the existence of spirits means the younger generations of Japan care less about their traditions and at the same time, she is seeking the attention and love from a foreign figure, representing the loss of identity of troubling Japanese teens.

This show is much deeper than I thought. I was wrong before. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You're not wrong. It's just my opinion based on what I see along with what I know of Japan's youth culture and how you can weave that into the narrative (though the show needs to conclude before I can make a surefire judgment). I'd never go so far as to call this show (or anything else I like for that matter) objectively good. And for the record, I don't care if the author intended it or not. As far as I'm concerned, the author is dead.

Thank you for that interpretation of the other characters by the way. Previously, I just pictured Ito as a common victim of Japan's crimes.

Forgot to respond to this earlier, but didn't the injection from last episode prevent Yuta from reaching Meika in time, causing her to send missiles at the asteroid? How is that pointless? As for Guriko just letting Yuta go, pretty sure it's both. I mean it's a f*cking asteroid.

That was a nice build-up. Clearly to beat Guriko and his fanatics it will take the help of everybody on board to make it possible. Like Meika hacks, Ito pilots the robot (through he gaming experience), Yuta and Narugino beat Guriko and Rabura exorcises the Qmay leader.

I admire your ability to appreciate the show this way. To me it's like watching a magic show, all merits come from how well the magician can maintain the illusion even though I know most of the tricks he is using, and since it is his show, the author is never dead unless in some ways intentional or not, he declared himself dead.

Maybe "pointless" is a poor choice of word, what I was trying to say is Uchikoshi failed to use that to its full potential to further characterize Guriko. Sure she prevented Yuta to contact Meika in time, but in terms of Guroko's character it did more harm than good.

So Guriko just told Yuta everything like what a typical villain would do, and it's happened after she stabbed him, what if the anesthetic failed to affect Yuta, he was buffed at that moment, even if the anesthetic worked as intended wouldn't it make more sense for Guriko to told him the plan after she knew the anesthetic was starting to affect him? She doesn't have much characterization at that moment but she is got to be pretty smart to be the head of an organization right?

And Guriko letting Yuta go it's just clumsy. Why not just lock him up to eliminate one threat to her plan, and she is going to explain the "W" thing to him later why not do that now and get Mikatan later, why the extra trouble of luring Ito out when you can just threaten Mikatan with Yuta's safety? If not for this we won't have those emotional scenes and it is at the cost of Guriko's being a capable, threatening and smart villain. She doesn't take advantage of her situation, and she would execute her plan in a convoluted manner including dating Rabura instead of going straight to Meika. She prepared a syringe filled with anesthetic was supposed to be an indication of her being smart and always prepared, at least it's how I make sense of that situation, and I would like to see these traits from Guriko's character, but everything happened next is just contradictory to my theory and it just became another example of putting the plot before the characters.

Just in case someone wants to argue that Guriko is not mentally stable to excuse her mistakes, but that is just like excusing badly-written teenage characters just because they are supposed to act that way.

Qmay made the hacking the trigger so the asteroid would hit Earth. Yuuta failed stoping it because he slept through it, so now he tries to find a way to stop it.

This is why people should not be able to rate anime until they have either seen the entire show or the entire show has finished airing. As I have argued before, lots of narrative heavy anime follow a macro narrative where the first few episodes are nothing more than an introduction. We haven't even begun talking about shows with false pretenses or have episodes that contain hidden meanings and references that only make sense after you've seen the entire show. (Higurashi, Haruhi, etc...) It's like a movie reviewer reviewing a movie based on the first five minutes.

I personally never give an anime a rating unless I finish watching it in its entirety as any impression that I will have is nothing but partial and misinformed. If I feel like I don't enjoy it, I hardly think it's a fault of the show, just personal taste, and won't fault the show for it by giving it a bad rating.

It's somewhat too tied on itself and has much of arguable parts, but it's just a theory.

I couldn't put the clock malfunction in it. I even can take that joke about "Zero escapes 3 times from clock" for serious. A week after last episode countdown on 4infinity.co will end. Not that i care at this time, because i have yet to play 999.

How this could switch up such a shitty and generic looking story and notch it up this high within 10 episodes is a testament to how good the writer is. Uchikochi Koutarou, I salute you. Though, considering the fact that he did write 999, this should've been expected.

Eventually the protagonist from a move, preparing the rescue. Narrative that leads you to discover additional background information and understand what is really going on. Yuta I'm liking just like protagonist, too obvious its part, I hope that from now on will recover. Drawings and animations enough, not bad the soundtrack during the final stage of the story. This TV series has squandered much of its potential, we hope can do better in the last few episodes. The tone was dramatic, but it was not convincing on the possibility that the protagonists have to win the game, I hope to be denied.

So, people. I have a (bad) news.
As some people already knew, the game version will not be anime rip-off, but now Nakazawa said, that game will also cover perspective of

That just broke my theory i posted earlier... And another one that i didn't post... Well, i still had flawed third one, but it's the last one...

Well, now i really want to see last two episodes. How they are going to conclude anime version?

Yep, that's how the author rolls. In fact this storyline has a fair bit of similarity to Zero Escape 2 (jumping between bodies, time loops), and that game also started out relatively generic before making your brain explode and dribble out your ears.

This anime just has more panty shots, for no adequately explored reason.

Probably the most well done episode so far. It managed to answer questions, raise questions, and really pull all of the drama and emotion into something believable.

So the whole Muhi thing was a fluke, and W's (aka regeneration) is complete. I wonder if they'll mention how they did that.

We learned that stopping Meika from hacking the server was the turning point for the future, and Yuta failed. But we also learned that the future isn't decided solely by fate. As ghost cat and the train hinted at, the third rail, a yet unknown future is also possible.

I was kind of hoping that in the future Yuta and Mika would become W's and somehow use that power to try and stop the meteor in space. But seeing how a huge battle between Qmay and Korai house is going down next week, I doubt it.

We also see Rabura taking her panties off, which is never a bad thing.

The scene with Yuta destroying his room was done really well. That's really the kind of emotion you would expect from someone who thinks they're completely and utterly defeated. (we also got to see his actual girl body).

The rooftop scene was awesome too. Great moment between those two.

So it looks like the big battle with all of Korai house is going down next week, but the big showdown between the 3 friends and stopping the meteor will happen in the finale.

Maybe Yuta will go into space, and look at panties twice to blow up the meteor away from earth. That would be unexpected and bittersweet.

Finally a good episode, and it's probably the best one so far, the build up is pretty exciting and the drama wasn't too forced. How many episodes are left?

2. The show is 12 episodes long.
