Mizusawa won in a particularly epic manner. Mashima's performance was particularly outstanding, luck was finally on his side.

It was great to see Taichi overcome his self-doubts and play with some true inner fire that was needed in such an intense match. Misuzawa is learning to play as a team now - syncing their cards like that. And Chihaya finally getting to see Arata...<3

Yet again I felt bad for the main characters, poor Taichi with his HORRIBLE luck, well, at least once he DID get lucky! Glad they won, Arata is still all quiet acting like "pfft" smh

what a underwhelming episode not very seriously saying that though. Still watching constant full of flashbacks (or reusing old scenes) there and here is just have been chore at this point and this was basically asspull victory. I simply can't understand how much good/experienced team can do mistake. Few earlier matches (or the older matches) had some strategies at least. Thats why I prefer individual matches like in s1 which honestly looking forward to that.

I didnt expect mizusawa team to win against a stronger team like fujisaki but the luck this time let them win the finals and its hard to defeat a team when they have luck on their side + hardwork

But my only concern is that mizusa wins or lose matches depends on luck i want them to win decisively in a match the pattern of their matches is always they losing early and then making a comeback always in mid to late game after showing how powerful the opponent is. Still fun to watch tho

Now the real fun start with individual match coming next we will finally see some arata and shinobu games

this episode hit the feels for sure. I personally feel like season 2 is a little weaker than season 1 mainly due to pacing. Not a whole lot is happening besides playing in tournaments . But this episode was top notch. It was super intense and I just prayed to kamisama that they will win and finally achieve something, especially Taichi. Really rooting for this guy. I hope the last few episodes carry on the momentum.

Still my favourite episode of the franchise so far! Speechless at the moment, really. Arata’s “Mmm, mmh, mmh” to top it off, stunning stuff!

So much feels and true emotions, it’s incredible! Chihaya rising up to watch Taichi’s shining moment there was amazing, how relatable it feels to Taichi as well (the poem that is) I’m sure.

Taichi and Mizusawa, you rock! I just love this series and the great set of characters here to tatters!

Granted this is a story telling medium so it's going to have story biased.

But come backs from teams that dominate aren't impossible or unheard like a few comments on here look like they are suggesting

Good little move on Mizusawa's part. I wasn't expecting them to be able to synchronize their cards.

Aww nice, Taichi's luck reversed! Man what a result; I thought they'd flat out lose simply due to Fujisaki having much more experience, but hey this is good.

This episode fucking sucked. Taichi's match which he trained his ass for was decided by luck and they didn't even bother to show Porky's match and explain how he even was able to catch up. Chihaya felt asleep as always because she doesn't give a shit about her team mates matches and Taichi literally had to pray to watch her.

The fact that they did that is so degrading and downright humiliating. The author shitted on him relentlessly since the second half of season 1 and then put the brakes on it during season 2,but she never fully stopped and it was always lurking in the background.

The fact that the author let him pray for the selfish self obessed team mate who doesn't give a shit about her team or Taichi just proves that she's more concerned with excusing Chihaya's flaws as a character and pushing this crap in order to further the romance crap

Seems like they pushed the cliche with the coach just like I expected. Her strategy on focusing solely was so effective that the other team won by sheer luck. How the hell is this being spinned as a flaw ??? I don't even know if I'll finish season 2 let alone start watching season 3 if this keeps on going.

Cool. I wasn’t initially expecting a win. I do think they’re starting to overdue the number of matches that end in luck of the draw, but using it to show Misuzawa’s growth as a team is fair game imo.

Woohoo. They’re the top team in Japan.

It can't be...Taichi's card was read?!? that must've costed Taichi's last remaining luck for the rest of his life.. I'm really glad they won that match there through Chihaya's physical capabilities and also Taichi and Nishida's strategic teamwork which they learned from the match against Hokuo.

OH MY GOODNESS THEY ACTUALLY WON THEY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

Was not expecting a 3-2 victory. I was hoping for it but was not expecting it. It was really cool seeing Taichi play. Serves that Eromu guy right for looking down on our Mashima just because he's been in Class B for a year.

I could actually hear my heartbeat before when they were down 1-1 each. And each time a dead card was read, my heart skipped a beat.

This arc has been so tense! This is probably either the tensest or second tensest time I've ever had watching any anime. I loved this arc so much!

Mizusawa is number one! Oh my goodness let me just go crazy a bit

Serves Fujisaki right for being so arrogant.

Excited to see the continuation.

Agreed, I'm disappointed too. They won last two matches 3-2 with luck of the draw, should really call themselves the luckiest rather than best team in Japan. Plot armour is plot armour. And who won third place? We don't even get to see a shot of the other match, we get a load of recap crap instead.

This anime's had so many emotionally satisfying moments, but the gratification from that victory is unreal. They did it!!!

Hope Taichi didn't use all his remaining lifetime's luck on that lol

Best episode yet. This was a beautiful climax to the buildup of trials, tribulations, emotions, backstory, and loss incurred previously. Given how much longer the anime lasts, how it's treated this team and the reputation of the opposing team I was fully expecting them to lose, but... I really wanted them to win. It's not too often an anime manages to pull off a surprise win and make it actually feel good.

As someone else mentioned the symbolism with that last specific boatsman card and how it reflects Taichi's romantic situation was gorgeous, I didn't even pick up on that while I was watching it tbh.

And even if Arata didn't get to see it with his own eyes, they made the moment feel quite intense for him too. I really love how they did that scene, where they put us in his shoes for a second -- we know it's the very end of the match and the spectators would yell one way or the other, and what better way to make us want to see what happened than reminding us of this guy? It's too bad his own actions and integrity barred him from witnessing it properly and cheering them on, but that makes him all the more respectable -- if this were a more generic anime he certanly would've snuck in.

The tactical conclusion to the match, where they used the same technique that Hokuo used to defeat them in the regionals was genius! It shows their skill, intellect, and most importantly, their collective hunger for victory. Even though Hokuo will keep that trophy for another year, can they really keep calling themselves the best in Tokyo after this?

I do think this match was perhaps stretched out a little long, but I get that it was at least partially an effort to make it feel more epic, and I appreciate that. They did overdo it a little though. Still, giving it a 5/5.

Despite down 0-2, Mizusawa still fights on to secure a comeback with winiing the three remaining matches. Taichi wins his match. Nishida got the luck and wins his game. It is all up to Chihaya to brings the final win.
