What the fuck is up with the titles of these VN anime? It's retarded as hell and annoying to read.

Well, it's a LN adaptation, not a VN. I never heard a VN with "ore no blablabla" name, anyway.

I wonder why people still tends to misusing LN and VN a lot.

Please Japan, more generic LN adaptions in a highschool setting...
This.
Interestingly ironic statements made here. (¬‿¬)
It is only ironic if you consider "generic" is a bad word, which it really isn't.

Basically "generic" is a problem mostly for those who are not fans of the genre in the first place. So when a work is "generic", meaning showing all the standard characteristics indicative of the genre, those people are disappointed. That's about it.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Apparently, 4,000 is the "break even point", so it seems like they need a hit so they can get some more cashflow.

There isn't really a set break-even point. Most titles don't cover all production costs on DVD/BD alone, which is where CDs and print adaptations and licenses and merchandise and increased sales of the original material (if it's not anime original) come in. So I don't think we say say all those shows were necessarily failures. Most of the revenue streams for a franchise are hidden to us, so we tend to acribe disproportionate importance to home video disc sales, which is one of the only data points we do have.

But since Silver Link is just an animation studio, not a major investor, generally they are going to be paid a fee for animation work, regardless of how the title sells (or doesn't). It's not usual for animation studios to be major investors in the production committee. So Silver Link gets paid whether the show fails or succeeds. Obviously they still want shows to succeed though, because if they're known for producing hits, they'll likely get better paying jobs.

Thanks for clarifying this.

Then you didn't hear of many yet.
Fun fact, the first untranslated one I read actually began with "Ore no" as well. Very entertaining read, I was always hoping for it to get an anime adaption. Especially with the beautiful OP it already had. Sadly, no luck yet.

http://vndb.org/v8301 didn't link it earlier because of MAL's rural editor

True, if I think about it, I have a hard time finding one... But I suppose there aren't many adaptions because there aren't many novels like that in the first place...
Still, one has been announced, so I'm not exactly disappointed, either.

As a buyer of Japanese light novels to read in Japanese I find it is tough to know if I'm buying the right thing so I don't know if this is a case of "Ore no..." sold well so if I call mine "Ore no..." then people might buy it thinking it is the same thing or if these long titles are fun and people tend to buy them because they're fun. Instead of making me buy the wrong one this just makes me miss buying the right one sometimes, so often I barely get my order into amazon in time because there are so many out at the same time it is tough to keep track of them all.

There are SOOOO many light novels put out that it is also tough to differentiate except by the title, cover and synopsis, author once they are known but for a new one, what hook do you use?

Anyways, I have not read this one... as I said, there are so many and how do you choose? I usually end up buying some I don't know just to break even on the shipping, then I try them and if they're good, I keep buying... crazy but true, shipping on the same day as a popular one I'm reading means you have a chance of being in the same shipping box!

Yeah, I sometimes rely on LN review websites (written in Japanese of course) and sometimes reviews written on Amazon Japan, but the one I find myself referring the most is the "Kono Ranobe ga Sugoi" このライトノベルがすごい! guide published each year. There are a good selection of LNs so it is not likely you will run out of LNs to choose from the list it publishes. But LN like this one may be too new to make it into the guide (assuming it is good enough to make it)

I do a mix, sometimes I wait until the anime is announced, then I buy and read all the novels, other times as I said I start reading something on a whim so I'm not paying $6 for the novel and $30 for the shipping. But I am a release day junkie as I hate hearing that something is good but then I am stuck waiting for a reprint as good stuff sells out fast.

Wow, they are adapting them sooner and sooner now, just 3 books! Perhaps this one will be adapted faithfully, usually with 100 page chapters they need to skip many pages at a time to fit a chapter into 20 minutes of episode plus 3 minutes OP/ED. Means a wait for a second season.

I find amazon ratings are TERRIBLE! One Korean Samyang food mentioned and the nationalist crap starts and it gets rated 0-1... even though the story is good. So as you say you need to actually read the reviews, not just go by the stars.

The idea is to help the LN gain public awareness and an early start may even help the sales for the series more in the longer term... At least that's my guess. As for how many volumes are needed for a 1-cour adaptation, I guess it depends - Mondaiji managed to get 10eps with just 2 volumes, so 3 volumes for 1-cour is possible.

Yeah, I don't really mind the ratings that much. I pick the more informative and neutral reviews to read. Those can shed light on the story and the style, which help me decide if it is something to my taste, for example. And yes, those nationalists posting trash 1-star reviews are really annoying -- just look at the reviews posted for the BDs of Sakuraso or Kokoro Connect....

I'm trying not to look as the trashing doesn't just go to the BDs from the studios that did the seiyuu punking and the korean dish switch. They are trashing the light novels and manga adaptations too even though they had nothing to do with the punking or the menu changes...

They put 1 star reviews in before they are even released which is perhaps fair for BDs where the episodes have already aired on TV but for manga and novels the early reviews are BS as they can't have read them yet. Amazon needs to do something about that as they are useless for me to use and in addition, it makes me feel like writing my own review would be a waste, who wants to wade through all the silliness to find an actual review of the actual product...

If I need to pad a shipping box anytime soon I will add these ones for sure.

Attack on Titan anyone? Already rated as 10/10 by two people, someone else rated it down so it is 7 now... It is bad enough you can rate while the show is ongoing but based upon a PV seems to be a bit much!

And I gave in and added the 4 novels of Noucome to my March 30th order... volume 4 comes out that day. And Mondaiji... I need to learn how to speed read in Japanese!

I know what you mean.
People shouldn't be able to rate unfinished series, with the exceptions of really long-running titles (I think 500+ episodes are enough rate One Piece...).

Mondaiji's full title is actually longer as they add to it for each one, not just a number:
問題児たちが異世界から来るそうですよ? 十三番目の太陽を撃て

Noucome 4:
俺の脳内選択肢が、学園ラブコメを全力で邪魔している 4

Love how the short title is actually Brain Comedy... not sure if anyone mentioned that yet.

The official site is interesting. The main page comes with a pop-up in which the author comes up with a list of funny short names. I like his self-deprecating humor X-D

It has 3 volumes published so far. Should be enough for 1 cour. Clearly shortlisted by Kadokawa for pushing this LN by a new author.
