Okay, I know I'm late for the party but... god damn what an amazing episode this was!! This was a great deconstruction of social hierarchy and nihilism without making it feel super heavy.

I only started watching Odd Taxi yesterday and I'm still only 4 episodes in but this is, by far, my favorite show this season.

This show has no right being this good and it's crazy to me that it's only in 10.000 users' lists. Just goes to show that most people who claim to be so well-versed in anime sometimes fail to see great shows like this one.

But then again, I think stuff like Zootopia really put people off the whole anthropomorphic animal thing so it's understandable.

I'm really glad I found this show!!

Doesn't really make sense how he lost hs ''item'' aka the Dodo after gettin it. Gacha games aren't like that. When you pulled something it doesn't randomly disappear. It's anime afterall.
A good backstory, a weird one but a good one.

Tanaka's psychology and life is hard to watch, I really felt bad for him, and now with the loss of the "dodo" and his pet + finding a gun I can expect something even tenser and difficult in the next episodes, sadly for him.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"

This episode is so frustrating. All people done stupid things in their life but doing it all over again, it's not God's fault or whoever's fault... it's you!! That guy should learn from his mistake, He only think the bad past, he didn't even think that he already earn that 100,000 he lost.. he thinks of revenge. When people only think of bad things, they never realize so many good things happen to them. That's what I hate to be a negative thinker. I think negatively sometimes but I know how to be thankful for every good things happen to me.

I cringed when he dropped the phone.

A seemingly mundane sidestory featuring
a still relevant topic (maybe more relevant than ever) neatly ties into the overarching story. There are many coincidences, but what makes it so engaging is how naturally everything is flows. There's no crazy set up, just characters going after their daily lives.
And man, how this series tells it's story feels so refreshing.

Man, Tanaka's VA put in some real work this episode. The scene where he finally gets the Dodo, the relief and happiness in his voice... really well done.

A pretty good episode. I didn't count on it being this interesting and it was a bit slow at first but it became progressively better the longer we got to know Tanaka.

Human foolishness of looking for social acceptance described in one long episode.

Living alone is tough in a world defined by social values. But once you live long enough in this state and are able to grab the inner peace that comes with it, peer pressure becomes irrelevant. Not to say that it will lead you to become selfish, only care about yourself, and completely exclude yourself from society, but it's more like you believe in your own values instead of those defined by your peers.

Again, not conforming to social demands can lead to social exclusion, that is definite. But then again, you value your own voice more than others'. That's why you still can live on and pursue your desires.

=========

The VA did an amazing job voicing the character. And as for Tanaka himself (and indirectly real people who are depicted as his character), I honestly couldn't feel any sympathy towards you whatsoever. I won't gloss over the fact that you got what you deserve. And unless you push the "stop" button, hell would be too kind of a place for you lot. Utterly disgusting.

That was one the moat compelling episodes in this series and I love how their lives are intertwined some way or another. Kind of reminds me of Durarara!! where everyone's lives are connected in some form or another.

Well, that didn't make any sense whatsoever. I get they are trying to create fake drama but at least be somewhat technically correct when doing so.. whether your phone loses power, the app crashes or your phone is incinerated has ZERO to do with anything happening on your account(server side). So, in a Gacha game the second you open anything (mostly even before) the server already knows the result and it's already tied to your account. So the entire phone drop and follow up is nonsense. Unless somehow in this universe the Gacha game is entirely run client side (offline) and in that case why spend any money at all? Quit app whenever you don't get desired outcome or just mod in whatever you need.. seriously this gigantic error is overstepping my suspension of disbelief by a lot. I hope there won't be no more nonsense like this.

Some little holes here, like how the eraser bid went in for the entire 100,000 yen instead of being a limit (with automatic increases ala eBay). Unless somehow, ditch-11 had a 99,000 limit but it's unlikely with the way it was presented. Also, the dodo gacha pull should have been server-side, so losing your phone shouldn't have been an issue.

But regardless, it was a really interesting take on wealth inequality and gacha addiction.

the storytelling is good and i get why showcasing this type of character is important, but i can't help hating his guts so the episode was not enjoyable at all

also i can't understand how people can feel sorry for him even though he's brought it all upon himself. yeah his childhood was shitty but not that shitty. some people have had it worse me included. from what was shown anyone who studied psychology could tell you it wasn't shitty enough for him to turn psycho so i can't even sympathize the tiniest bit.

Don't want to be that guy but Tanaka could have just rerolled. Also, it makes no sense how he lost the Dodo when his game account/the game server should have already registered it the moment he got it.

Overall, quite impressive storytelling and inner monologues but there is a limit regarding how many plot conveniences I can take. Tanaka deciding to bury his bird in the exact same place where Dobu hid the gun took the cake in that regard.
So yeah, easily the weakest episode of the series so far.

Okay that was a very good episode. This guy's descent into madness was both fascinating and incredibly disturbing to watch, even more due to how relatable some of his thoughts are (especially that part about a pleasure ending the moment you get it). I definitely felt his frustration when he lost the Dodo, as stupid as it was.
But, I'm not very convinced by his final decision to kill Odokawa. I mean, he obviously has gone insane but something just didn't feel right. In the state he was in I really thought he was gonna shoot himself with the gun. Maybe I'd buy his decision to kill Odokawa if he saw him as responsible for the loss of the dodo, but the show took another direction and it doesn't really work (in my opinion). I understand the point, but I'm not feeling it, it contrasts a lot with the rest of the episode that was so well done and convincing.
It's just my opinion though, maybe there are more people like him than I believe but it bothered me so I had to write it down.

Holy shit from Eraser Collecting into Gacha Hell...

I can't believe I'm yelling at my screen when Tanaka bit 100.000 yen. Oh my god.

Wait a minute, that Eraser, i think Shirakawa had it in the first episode and give it to Odokawa for unknown reason.
Didn't Shirakawa said he has a regret in the past loan money, what if she used that for the eraser?
Damn my head is full of theory right now.

Oh no when Tanaka find out Odokawa made him lose Dodo and also have that eraser, I can't wait till that happened.

The way they tying together threads from previous episode is Insane.
Brilliant Storytelling!!!

Completely new character, but somehow ended up become the best Episode so far.

Seems like Tanaka's father didn't beat him enough for wasting 100,000 yen on an eraser he never received considering Tanaka spend more than 5 mil yen on a mobile game. Hopefully nothing bad happens to Odokawa, especially since he has the eraser which break Tanaka's mental state even further.

I feel like this pitiful obsessive lifestyle is really well portrayed here, even outside of gacha games (albeit not necessarily to this obsessive degree) this must hit home for many people.

Don’t feel sorry for him especially for the beating he got for stealing and spending 100,000yen On a fucking eraser,

Then he got into a gacha addiction and started blaming someone else when it was his fault he was in the middle of the road to begin with.

Then again Odakawa shouldn’t have been speeding and don’t know if he noticed him or not.

He also managed to find the exact location of the gun that was buried in the previous episode

Okay, I guess I'll commend the writers for doing something unique, but I felt like this was not something that needed an entire episode. If this is to become important later, then what they should've done instead is spread it throughout the rest of the series.

Ok, Tanaka made a huge mistake with the eraser auction but it doesn't justify that level of physical abuse by a parent to a ~10 year old child, that part was just disgusting. Other than that it was a great episode.

Wow...Watched this episode and rushed here to see others' responses. This is a great episode for sure. The life of Tanaka is really relatable for a lot of people and definitely caught my full attention when watching this ep. Tanaka sure had a terrible life for now, but it's undoubtedly caused by himself. He keeps on blaming others, even god but never himself.

the storytelling and the script of this anime makes you focus on the most minor details which is an outstanding turn-on to me. the dodo story and the eraser collection fad, despite sounding absurd and odd superficially, both succeeded in keeping me interested up until the very last minutes of the episode. I didn't know how to feel about the show judging from the first three episodes but now I can say I'm really into whatever the fuck is going on lmao
