They make it so bad compare to the novel...

Which Volume of the Light Novel did It adapt?

I don't remember the exact volume 4, 5 and 6.
Ya, they covered a lot in the movie.
And ya, they did not cover a lot in the movie.

I am currently in volume 10 so I would not be able to recall everything.

Good movie! Very entertaining with great battles set in alternative timeline and several cute and funny moments. I liked how they showed finished Palace of the Soviets, or at least its version from the world it was built it. Too bad the statue was not rotating, haha.

What I disliked the most, however, was that spoiler in the beginning of the movie. I'm anime only and I am of course familiar with history. It was very possible to imagine a scenario in which the Empire falls (as II Reich and III Reich fell in our world), but I thought this alternative world might go in a different direction. Mostly because it is an alternative timeline after all, and because of Tanya who knows history from her previous life.

Action packed from start to finish, not much to invest or digest in terms of story and plot but it all just felt so professionally done that i'm left very satisfied. 8.

Can't stand Mary. Your father is a soldier and it all makes sense that there's a possibility for him to die. Her being so furious at Tanya is so annoying lol

Tanya was so cute when she was dancing inside the church, thinking that she got the peace that she wanted. She got misunderstood once again as someone who likes war and was asking for it lmaoooo

There's a reason for that, the Director himself said the novel was so complex he had to make a choice. The choice was to focus solely on Tanya's timeline and as a result he didn't focus so much on the other countries.
Check out the interview the Director Yutaka Uemura did at the AnimagiC in Mannheim, Germany last year.

On another note they asked him if a second season could come up, he replied with:

Tanya is very exhausting to produce. We would be happy if you would give us some time to recharge our batteries, and then maybe.

Once again Youjo Senki never cease to amaze me. but once Mary shows herself i already predict it which is minus points. Logics aside mary is basically one of a hella psychopath herself. Still i hate this kind of thing in anime this writing is different from those cheesy cheap story that will always show superficial emotional and yeah it has this again sigh. It's a war i was expecting really logical not this anime ish expression again. but well yeah tanya vs mary, mary a character that narrate her story at first appearance and tend to be a protagonist ish with terrible personality and is narrow-minded and fails miserably. but then it was expected that she will recieves massive plot device because she tends to a kinda protagonist. at the end tanya get to stab her with a knife because she wants to act like she was joker cornering batman and fails miserably, now then she git carried by the plot device again with tanya holding back for the sake of shit. ah shit the kind of villains i hate so much.

I know the budget may be on a different level, but the explosions in this are so much better than what I've seen in recent FATE and SAO anime. Loud, crisp, and no need to resort to audio distortion effects to simulate an excessively loud bang.

This movie has the visuals to go along with the audio, too, which I really enjoyed. Fun dialog, great aerial battles.. I just had a really good time watching this.

Too much fireworks. Really nice explosions.

Gotta say I was already bored for the first 40 minutes since it was basically the same plot with the novel( My assumption was that the whole movie itself would be an original story at least).....But the middle part though, if I recall correctly, it was a one sided fight for Tanya at all. So I was pleasantly surprised to see a close match in this movie.

And there really is not much to complain with the animation. Nice fireworks as I've said.

while it had some great bits it wasnt as good as the series mostly because i cant stand the mary bits and the fact she survived and will probably come back even stronger and more annoying kinda ruined it

tbh i wouldnt be surprised if tanya either rebels against command or switches side after all the shit she goes through..

A great movie. Art was splendid. though attacks were a bit flashy. Continuation of the series was good too (aka. plot). Funny how Being X (God) plays with his pets and see how it turns out. Looks like he isn't on either side in this war. If that was the case Mary would win the first time she encountered Tanya. Then again, she has very little experience. Either way, Tanya is fuck*d. Looks like her fate is in the war. Poor little girl (boy).

Great developement of characters. Mary slowly become God's disciple. She need more experience and another encounter to defeat Tanya (which will probably happen).

The OSTs were nice too. Funny that they used classical music when Tanya finally thought she could live in peace.

All in all, it deserves a solid 7/9. It was enjoyable.

I guess there will either be a movie or 2nd season, where the latter is most probable. Can't wait to see the sequel (which will most probably happen).

Having a character who is clearly protected by God, called Mary Sue is so perfect. Nice one, author-san.
Now seriously, I actually didn't find Mary that annoying as other people say. If anything, I found her attitude quite fitting for a rookie soldier whose only purpose for enrolling in the army was the seek of revenge. Sure, seeing her surviving in the end despite the amount of punishment she received was kinda absurd but again, Mary Sue. Hopefully, it will take some time until we see her again in the story.

As for the movie... well, it was actually a quite enjoyable one. Highly entertaining and considering how much I love the focus this series put into military tactics and strategies, my enjoyment only went uphill every time Tanya started playing the tactician role.

Action sequences were particularly outstanding as well. Nut did such a fantastic job with the battle of Tiegenhoff and besides, I'm so glad to see that Tanya vs. Mary fight was as insane as I expected it to be. Only wish the studio would have added a few more cuts during the chase sequence but other than that, the whole confrontation was really well done. Mary coming out from the flames in total rage? Absolutely chilling moment!

Overall, I had a really good time watching this sequel.

I can definitely say that it's very entertaining to see Tanya and her battalion kick ass and blow commies up but the most satisfying parts for me are the ones where she taunts the enemies in such a spectacular fashion. Watching her go as far as to record a live propaganda film and sing their national anthem behind the Empire's flag atop the capital while they wreck the place was legendary~

Mary Sioux was a very annoying character who based everything she does on getting revenge for her father no matter what but it's more of a pity that someone that capable just happened to be on the opposition. She'll most likely be back in the field but her recklessness and penchant for disobeying orders might lead to her dismissal which would arguably be a good thing for both sides.

The Battle of Tiegenhoff really showed how capable a nation that treats its people as disposable resources can be but in the end, they were no match for the Empire's deadliest Elite Force. As much as Tanya and company is formidable, they won't last forever at this rate if they keep throwing them into the front lines without improving the other units first. Strategy HQ are really making sure that past mistakes done in another world will be made regardless of Tanya's power of historical hindsight. It might be more work for the kid but at least she's got new toys to play with which makes for a prime transition towards Season 2!

I was trippin balls when Tanya attacked Moscow and destroyed all their statues. even the one that was never finished but was completed in their timeline (Stalin's Palace of the Soviets or something).
Then reenacted several Soviet propaganda pieces from WW II while singing their national anthem.

Tanya the Evil vs Mary Sue whom fights for God with a nation that purged all of its mages and religion. Just lol.

That was a solid movie, glad to see all the mishaps and fights that Tanya gets into, she got trolled hard at the end.

The fight sequences between her and Mary were so good, the cinematography when they were flying was fantastic.

Any movie that includes the fighting against communists is a good movie in my books.

i love it . the madness of tanya never neglects to make me ecstatic with everything about her character is so astonishing and interesting to see,not an enthusiast of mary though. She is only idiotic from a rationale perspective. She needs vengeance for her "great" dead dad and doesn't consider everybody that her dad murdered as a soldier.she has the most plot defensive layer I at any point found in any show up until now if it won't be clarified appropriately and end she up victorious i will be pissed

What a movie! Damn! We need the 2nd season immediately! Tanya is such a badass that i have no words to describe her, besides badass of course xD
I loved every single historical reference and analogies they made, the Commies lying to their higher-ups, killing soldiers who flee from the battle, etc.
The writer made many interesting plot changes compared to our world, i guess that's what makes it even more interesting.

To be honest i am surprised that God didn't appear in front of Tanya...

About that girl, what a great drama this movie has brought. I do wonder if that girl now has the same power since Tanya destroyed her magic medallion?

And that ending, sorry Tanya but there is no way for you to have a desk work xD And now she has a complete battalion just for herself lmao
Meaning that now she will carry the empire even more.

Can't wait to see more of Lieutenant. Degurechaffand and her battalion.

Hard to say now but, at least a solid 9-10/10. Hope there will be a 2nd movie or 2nd season.

Just like the series, the backgrounds, audio and fast camera movements in the aerial combat were truely spectacular.
The movie also seemed to highlight Tanya's tiredness of the war (since she's basically having to live through both WW1 and WW2 in a single sitting), but even with the hint of humanity in the way she says it, she still focuses on the rationality of it. All the battles with futile results. Life and material resources lost and wasted, and then zealous fanatics out purely for single revenge get brought into the fray.

The ending the very clear to see, although I'd hoped they'd be saving it as the intro for a S2, it likely played out better this way. As soon as she was dancing in the church I was constantly saying outloud "two months, he just said two months!"

And then we get the post Los! Los! Los! sequence..."two months later" all quiet in a rear miltary building with Tanya getting just a bit too comfortable...and then the phone rings. They've done it several times before, so no idea how she hadn't picked up on the possibility during those 2 months that they'd screw her over again. Next generation strategic operations, of course they'd want their best front-line officer to lead it. Walk the walk, now talk the talk and all that :S

Really is horrible for Tanya and the Empire at this point. The way I still see it, it's an altered version of WW1 and WW2, but with motivation changes it actually still has the Empire as the victim since Ep1. A growing potential threat, someone poked the hornet nest and now they're crying for help from the world because they got stung.

Spectacular animation, great pace, gripping battles.

Completely disappointing ending. This movie started with a bang but ended with a whimper. Not even a cliffhanger, just a semi-conclusion which obviously sets up a sequel (which we might never see).

Still a solid 7/10 just like the series.

Re-watching
Re-watching anime I love feels good!

Tanya should have killed Mary instantly, but aughh she did not.
Mary is really scary, I think her magic power is stronger than Tanya's! Why does Being X keep interfering? He says that he is God though, but he is bothered by a single non-believer like Tanya?

Tanya has his own thingy? Salamander? Oooh! Interesting... I hope that there will be a second season for this series. I really need it! We need it!

I thought the opening scene was kind of pointless, as it didn't play into anything else that we get to see in the rest of the movie. I also thought it was kinda disappointing that Being X didn't talk to Tanya in this, those were always my favorite moments in the series.

Well. I hoped for the movie to use the potential the series failed to explore. It did the opposite. That's an exploit in itself so... Congratulations ?
No really, I already found the series to be quite uninteresting aside from Tanya, but it still got me more invested than the movie where I totally spaced out during fights, which is saying how low my level of interest was.

First, I want to talk about Mary. What was up with this character ? What was the point ? I get that she was supposed to be the main villain as well as Tanya's foil but to do that you have to develop the character properly ! We've barely seen her until the last battle and the only thing we know about her is that she is vengeful and obsessed with justice. Maybe I wasn't supposed to care about her as a person (though she had the potential to be a decently written sympathetic antagonist), but at least making me care about her as a villain would've been pretty nice. I honestly felt like she just came out of nowhere because they needed a character to confront Tanya. I know she was already there in the series, I remember that scene where she becomes mad over the death of her father, but somehow she still felt super random. When she was punching Tanya I was just staring at the screen wondering how exactly did we reach this moment and why exactly was I supposed to care about that other than because Tanya is the protagonist. And even aside from her being random, Mary's motivations aren't well thought-out. She developed an irrational hatred towards Tanya due to her having killed her father, and because of that completely forgets the fact that war is war and losses are bound to happen. That's not anything amazing but it could've worked relatively well if they developed her character correctly, explored her psyche and made her go through a real evolution that could explain how she became so messed up. Maybe we could even have a scene of her having some regrets to make her very last thing where she cries a bit more impactful. But instead, they decided to turn her into some weird... Thingy. I can't even call her a plot-device at this point. That's stupid. Oh and don't even get me started on her being the definition of overpowered. The girl is physically destroyed and yet she is still alive, conscious and able to speak, are you kidding me ?

I also want to mention Tanya. She is the one and only reason why I watched this movie, because I really like her character. And I still like her a lot in the movie, she's true to her character so I don't see why I wouldn't. However can we just aknowledge the total lack of character development ? What I liked in the tv show was to see Tanya's evolution, her development in the two or three last episodes was great. I wanted to see something similar in the movie and I truly expected for that to happen. Was I naive. I think the only moment she even did get some development was during the fight against Mary but it didn't have any impact because it came out of nowhere and was completely forgotten the next minute. Tanya realizing she wasn't as rational and calculating as she thought she was could've been very interesting if there had been any build-up that could've led to this moment and if this realization had any consequence on her psyche. Same with her becoming obsessed with killing Mary just like Mary was with her.
So I still really like Tanya, but I don't see the point of making a movie if the main character isn't going to change in any way, just make a random ova if you don't want anything big to happen.

And I also wanted to mention the story in itself, or to be more precise the lack of story. Okay, there was something about the war and all that. I'm sorry but that's not enough to write a plot. It's not a plot, it's just a bunch of strategies and fights. It looks like the whole thing with Mary was supposed to be the plot but then we're going back to what I said : why not using her if she's supposed to be the main point ?! Also, I feel like the whole show is stuck in some kind of loop. Tanya wants a peaceful life, she talks too much, is sent back to the front line, then it happens again, and again, and again... And the post-credit scene only proves it. The context is different each time but the situation is the exact same. If we ever get a season 2, maybe it'll be make things move a bit ?

And of course, one last flaw, the same as in the show : there are many characters, yet Tanya is the only interesting one. That makkes it hard to be invested, especially during the many times when she's not on screen.

I forgot to mention, but it's a shame we didn't get any Being X vs Tanya scene, those moments in the show were great and due to Tanya completely turning her back on him in the last episode, it could've been very interesting to see a confrontation. That reminds me, we don't even know why is Mary blessed by him.

It wasn't an horrible movie, I didn't have an awful time watching it (mostly thanks to Tanya), but I can't say that it was good, so 4/10. I'm still waiting for a season 2 if it ever happens.

So many explosions! Loved it.

The scene where they invade the Federation while singing the Teikoku national anthem was sooo cool!!

I felt satisfied when Mary was stabbed and being shot multiple times by Tanya until her defenses broke. I don't like her.. even if she volunteered in the army for personal reasons, but she should not bring her personal reasons when the war is going on! She didn't care about her main duty as a soldier, didn't listen to orders, didn't care when her comrades were getting shot, all she could think of was her revenge.. It just shows how silly and unprofessional she is.

Honestly it's really annoying to know that she hasn't died after being shot that many times, but that's okay.. Tanya is always ready to kill her! (and maybe everyone <3)

Its interesting re-watching this. Cause it tells us that A) The Empire definitely lose the war and B) Mary is most likely going to be the one to eventually take Tanya out as she's the perfect rival.

Shame they pretty much tell us the Empire lose rather than leaving it out in the open if Tanya's actions actually change the events of history. The whole Mary thing really reminds you that we're rooting for the bad guys lol.

But I love this series. It's the only anime to date that I've seen that is proper world war with trenches etc.

I remember hearing two major theories on how this will need. One being that Tanya just dies at the end which would make sense. Or the other one was that every time Tanya uses the god power it slowly corrupts her mind and eventually she'll turn into a believer like Being X wants her to. I hope not the latter.

Oh well we got Mary sue, in person that is LMAO. But have to say she gave Tanya some real tough time, which was something I was half expecting since that end we got in the first season itself. Visuals too were quite neat for the most part, and yeah that opening scene definitely revealed something we didn't needed.

Now with Tanya having her own fleet, "Salamander" to herself and the war being in its final stretch, very much looking forward to the coming season 2. 8/10.
