Is it just me, or do anime fans seem to have a coincidental affinity for sushi?

I can understand thinking it doesn't taste bad or maybe even tastes good, but when something as relatively flavorless as sushi becomes one of your favorite foods, something's up. I have to wonder if the same people wouldn't find any other combination of raw fish, rice, and seaweed to be disgusting or flavorless.

So, who else here does NOT consider sushi to be a wonderful and delicious food, presumably just because they are obsessed with Japan due to anime?

I have never even tried sushi. I am not that much into fish; only eat fish once a month or so...

Sushi is pretty meh to me, I generally only eat it when a chef gives me some as an apology for being slow in making my other food.

I do like tamago sushi (it's just egg), but it's hard to find places to get it.

When I first tried it... I had a hard time eating it. I didn't really like it...
But thinking back on it there is some kind of allure for some reason.
I haven't been able to figure it out.

meh, sushi is yummy. Though, being a non-fish eating person I guess I haven't tried much.... Avocado sushi is so good :)
Though, I get your point and it isn't my favourite food or anything, but people like that are extremely annoying and stereotypical

Would probably hate it, because I hate seafood.

Sushi is okay, but to consider it my favorite would be to much. I do love fish tho... Best fish I ate ever was cooked in a Greek restaurant about 1.5 years ago. If I think of that dish again I start drooling (not really tho) ^_^

I hate sushi.
I hate any rice conceived the Japanese way.
I hate ramen.
I hate noodles in any form.

So, basically, I'd starve in Japan.

The only sushi I've ever tried was this horrible, horrible, stuff Publix claimed to be sushi. And if actual sushi tastes anywhere near that crap from Publix, which I doubt it does, it is my least favorite food.

I haven't had any remote desire to trying it again after the horrid first shot.

I hate pretty much all fish except for tuna.

Actually, cheese wontons with crab meat are pretty good (I've had some at a Chinese buffet before), but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's a favorite dish.

The smell/taste of seaweed makes me gag.

I have relatives that live off of anything and everything from the ocean, so I've tried about 15ish different kinds of sushi and it's all pretty damn terrible.

Except spicy crab. It's the only thing I have been able to put down my throat more than once.

Weeaboo. Stop pretending you like it.

White people aren't built with genes for liking Asian food.
On the other hand if you're Asian, CHING CHONG NIP NONG WONG.

Seriously though, Sushi is the fucking best. Though mostly because of wasabi.
And people throw around obsessed with Japan too much.

Sushi is like chips, crisps, clams, spaghetti andsoforth.

The sushi provides the texture, the soy sauce the taste. And I dear say it's delicious then.

Sushi is effing awesome. Spicy salmon ftw. Though people seem to have a big deal on California rolls, which is so-so to me. And you can't go wrong without soy sauce and wasabi. Eating it alone without them is just... bland. And can't forget raw sashimi and chicken teriyaki.

It needs raw fish and rice for me.:x

Ah and I also hate soy in any form, including sauce. And my body does not take wasabi very well, as well as any other spicy food... Rice has a texture I find boring (even western made rice). Food is, in a way, a boring thing and a waste of time.

I'm only sad that's not 1-minute Beef Cup, it would save my worries immensely.

p.s. Salmon is most likely the most boring fish ever. Unlike codfish, which I love of course, that can be done in 1000 documented different ways.

I don't care for sushi that has an aftertaste (read not really fresh fish sushi). I do love vegetable-type rolls or some other speciality rolls. Something about all the different textures in one bite.

I just discovered Sushi about a year ago. It quickly rose to my top 3 things to eat, which isn't surprising considering my love of quite literally all seafood.

Only problem is it's hard to find anything but really cheap stuff around me. Don't get me wrong. I even really like the cheap stuff, I'd just like to taste something gourmet.

I wonder if you have this where you live? Cheap Japanese fusion cuisine. I like about 4 things of their menu, so they are great. =D

It's not even close to one of my favorite foods, but I've enjoyed sushi long, long before I even knew what country it was from.

Nothing fancy either; just California rolls, tuna, and salmon are fine. Sashimi on the other hand? No thanks.

Never heard of it and can't read enough of it to understand what exactly is going on there. I can just get by on navigation.
Are any of these close to it? All I've been to is a place called Japan Cafe in my local mall.

Nope... I guess they did not franchise through America yet.... =( Oh well, you're invited to come and stay over to try it. xD

All the other restaurants are super amazing and expensive, super expensive and not amazing (to name the one that has a mistake at a dish and called it "Roasted Skirts", according to my Japanese teacher), and a series of small restaurants ran by Chinese emmigrants.

Only good part about asian food so far are the soups. I'm starting to discover that I'm actually a soup lover... oO

Don't underestimate my powers of transportation. I haven't been saving ~50,000 airline miles for nothing. Also, Asians came up with stir fry. This alone demands more praise than I am capable of.

EDIT: In order to stay somewhat on topic... Anyone know of a good Sushi place in or around the state of Michigan?

I told my bestfriend about me being curious about the taste of sushi(and the contents of the bento itself). She immediately took me to a japanese restaurant and ordered a sushi. At first, I can't take that sushi using a chopstick ^^ The taste was okay but not something to be addicted to or be fond to. The next sushi accidentally touched the green-spicy thing(I think it's wasabi or wasabe) Shit, I didn't know there was something as spicy as that.

I'm not used to eating cold rice and cold raw fish >< I love the cooked ones more.
