What was your dream job as a child? Did you become it? Did it change?

I originally wanted to be a surgeon when I was a kid. Went to some private advanced schools on scholarship to bypass so regular classes. When I went to public school I took honors and AP classes to get ahead and followed the career path recommendations for classes such as AP Biology and Anatomy. But my senior year I panicked about finding scholarships and going to a big university so I chose culinary instead since I liked cooking. Only stayed for the first year before I dropped out and started working. Until I got sick I worked in both healthcare and culinary fields as a nutritionist assistant and almost got my CNA certification.

I wanted to be a Palaeontologist as I always loved Dinosaurs since being taught it in School, and later being home educated, those were the things I read & watched a lot of. Unfortunately Palaeontology doesn't seem to be a permanent course in the UK, and it wasn't available for me to study at universities when I was looking, and I didn't feel comfortable studying in the USA or Canada.

I self-taught myself some stuff and my parents helped me join the Open University - which had a Paleontology short course, but I had to jump through hoops because they didn't want me to study with them, because I was underage. I eventually was allowed to study with them...if I passed. I did take on the Course, and I passed it with quite a good score (76/100), but the course itself really didn't teach me enough, it was lots of trick questions or examining plaster fossils, but there was nothing else after that.

But not long after that my family members had lots of Mental break-type episodes and illnesses, so I basically helped look after whoever was released back home etc.

Ironically though I noticed that many UK universities now have Palaeontology courses... but I lack motivation, and I would probably only take it on to learn more rather than as a Career. UK is a crap place to be a Palaeontologist, most study here and go abroad.

So now you work as a nutritionist still?

Not currently. I've been off work for a year with a chronic illness.

I wanted to be a marine biologist. I grew up in a city by the ocean and was always near the water. My elementary school teacher's son was a marine biologist and a lot of his material made it into my 2nd & 3rd grade curriculum. I chose to go to a university with an oceanography institute attached and worked there for a year studying ocean sediment. I thought it would be the coolest thing to be on an actual scientific research vessel, like the Enterprise (TNG baby).

Too bad I needed to get a real job out of uni and start paying bills.

As a child, astronaut. As a teenager, an ophthalmologist.

I went into pre-med after high-school. One semester is all I needed to know that it won't work.

When I was really young, I wanted to be a clerk on a toys store.
When I was going to enter college, I wanted to work (just during college) as a porter, most porters in my country don't do anything 99% of the time, so I could just read manga during work time.
Now that I am on the last semester of Computer Science, I don't even know what I want to work with.

My dream job now is being a homesteader in Mars because I'm smart enough to take care of myself. Also strong enough to build my own crib and capable of turning plastic into kerosene for a generator. Would also make enough kerosene to power a rocket.

I would build a colony, build a homestead in it and eventually put a solenoid around my colony while wearing an improvised radiation suit so that there will be a magnetic field around it.

If John Plant can build his own crib, then so can I.

I had no dream job when I was younger. "Work" isn't exactly a value that naturally occured to child me. I'd be fine just eating berries from a bush, and after realizing it, I did the only logical thing: I started working to open my farm. Currently going well, I'm working for a farmer, and hopefully I get a piece of land and a crash course on this crap soon. It's crazy the kind of opportunities you find when asking around (like towns letting you use their land for free if you can make 2 grammaticaly correct sentences in a row).

I'm not even in a farm I like that much (people are nice, methods are less attractive to me), but sometimes I'm on my knees under the rain harvesting potatoes in thick mud, and I think about some of my friends who work better-paying soulless corporate jobs and either burnt themselves out, or drink 3 beers every evening after work to swallow the pill. I feel lucky (^%

I first wanted to be an artist as a kid, but I quickly realized I was horrible at art. Then I wanted to be a writer, and sometimes I still think about being one, but I'm not much better at writing than I am art LOL

As a kid I wanted to become an archeologist so I could find remains of dinosaurs and dragons lol and I also wanted to become an engineer even though I didn't even know what it means or what an engineer does, it was something my parents had fed into me, when was in 8-9 grade I wanted to become an animator too since I loved anime. In the end didn't become any of them. I honestly didn't have any specific job in mind till I finished BSc after which I wanted to get a VAPT role which I didn't so ended up becoming a software developer in the end.

My dream job - that's tricky. I don't really dream of doing labor. If I had to pick I guess landlord lol.
Although in all reality the job I'm most interested in at the moment is a Neural/Biomedical Engineer. Someone has to develop full-dive VR, better BMIs, cosmetic robotic enhancements, revolutionary medical systems, brain-in augmented reality and I could go on. It seems like a relevant and rapidly evolving field that I'm interested in, at least, and one with a lot of profit potential.
Otherwise I'd love to be a game developer or writer or something along those lines.

I want to be a Governor-General, you have awesome salary, prestige, awesome residence, Roller state car with special number plates and other job perks. You do need to do really anything, you job is to simply appoint a prime minister selected by parliament and delegate all governance to a him. Awesome almost $500 000 pay.

What could be better, being a King or Emperor may be. Even if you are US President you actually have to do shit, which is not cool.

Too bad there are not many Governor-Generals

I guess I can be MP, councilor, member of the corporate board or something so similar.

Dream job as a kid? I had a couple, palaeontoligist, I was into Dinosaurs long before Jurassic Park came to theaters. Violinist, a conductor, a vet, a doctor.

I wanted to be all of those jobs before reaching the ripe age of 8.

From about 10 to 17 I really, really wanted to go to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis to join the Navy as an Ensign and move my way up.

Fun fact it is not easy to enroll there, well fir the plebs that is, I had all papers sign and ready for me to join, I only had to sign them and present myself to the Campus, aka "the Yard" survive the "Plebe Summer" the training program that last seven weeks? Around seven weeks, and I was in.

Did I become any of them? No, I did not. I instead became a lawyer and a father. I think I did pretty well.

When I was a child? I wanted to be a teacher that dressed as a unicorn.

No, I'm not kidding you.

My parents still tease me about it to this day lol.

However, as I grew up, it changed from wanting to be a teacher, to becoming a biologist, to becoming a social worker/therapist. Still looking to go into social work or becoming a therapist. I wanna really help work with LGBT+ teenagers to make sure that they're okay, getting the correct support that they need, etc.

I also wanna be a voice actor but I have no idea where to start, what to get, etc. So...that's nifty I guess LOL.
