Has there ever been an anime you have avoided? And if so, for what reason?

(I'll also make a poll if you don't want to waste time by replying.)

Male demographic titles written by female mangakas where there is a possibility of love polygons. I despise drama.
All girls anime cause I can't relate, or at least that's my belief. Maybe it's like shrinking away from sports/some sport before putting in the effort to watch it and get addicted lol
Titles where drama is explicitly mentioned as genre. Just nope, not touching these if my eyes see that.

Most of the Chinese cultivation ones with BL undertones or just any BL anime in general.

Start with combat sports one like Hajime no ippo or any of the boxing ones or even keijo or some of the baseball ones like One outs is good.

At least boxing ones has action too, adrenaline rush, good character stories and is a lot of fun, especially Hajime no ippo. I didn't care for sports anime too with the exception of these. I couldn't get into haikyuu even though I tried since my wife loves this anime.

I have avoided Tokyo Revengers and Sk8 for about a year, even though I checked every other anime of 2021 that stood out for any reason as soon as they started airing. Reason? I didn't expect to like them.

Then, I decided to give them a try and... I didn't like them.

Yeah, because of the genres that I am not interested in, low-rated stuff, and some of the old animes from the 70s to below, how the animation style works are not for me.

There's loads of anime that I avoid. I'd be here forever trying to name them all, so instead, I'll name some types of anime that I avoid:

Most seinen anime - I refuse to watch stuff with sex scenes and extreme violence/gore, and you're more likely to run into that stuff in seinen works.

BL & all-boy sports and idol anime - If you look at my completed list, you'll notice that I actually used to watch this stuff, but after discovering that I was a woman, my interest in anime boys disappeared almost completely, so I avoid this stuff now. For the record, I was never attracted to real-life guys, ever.

Horror & Thriller anime - Again, I'm not into extremely violent stuff, or stuff with sex in it, so I generally avoid these genres.

Harem/Reverse Harem anime - I find this stuff weird. I've never watched a harem anime in my life, and I never will.

Battle Shounen anime - I'm simply not into this stuff. It doesn't appeal to me at all.

I avoid anything that looks too pandering, so harem/reverse harem are a big no-go for me, ecchi usually too (though I can handle some if it isn't too distracting).
Idol shows (both male and female). Overly edgy teen boy fantasies.

Oh, also, anything with a pink-haired "best girl"/love interest. Idk why but these shows are always the most disappointing bullsh*t or the girls in question are so frequently pretty terrible people. Mirai Nikki, Darling in the Franxx, Owari no Seraph, Guilty Crown, Rosario to Vampire, half the girls in Slime, etc. They are also usually the worst aspect of overall enjoyable shows, like Sakura in Naruto, Megumi in Shiki and Euphemia in Code Geass.
It's gotten to the point where if there is a main love interest in the promo art with pink hair (like Shikimori), I just don't bother anymore. I know it's probably unfair and also very weirdly specific, but I've been burnt too many times x)
Shows where the pink-haired girl is the protagonist herself are fine btw, like Madoka or Utena, it's just when they are in a love interest position that they are always weirdly unbearable.

Well when it comes to Eva, the animes focus isn't the mecha, but the psychological aspect. I'd honestly recommed watching if you're into psychological stuff even if you don't enjoy mecha. While I didn't find Eva to be anything special, it might be different for you, idk tbh choice is still yours...

My Neighbor Totoro - it's a stupid reason really - I got suspended from school on the day my Japanese class was going to watch that movie. So every time I think of that movie, I think about my cringy, idiot high school self.

Also, Attack on Titan. I just can't be bothered. Also, I don't want to have an opinion on it since I want to stay away from its fanbase entirely.

Evangelion fits perfectly here for me, for both the 'used to do so' and the 'will continue to do so' meanings. My initial experience with its fans deterred me from watching it: I eventually did, and quite liked it. Then I watched EoE, which completely killed my interest in the franchise altogether. I have no desire to watch the rebuilds.

Probably the "Monogatari" stuff as everyone ive ever meet from that fanbase hate the shows I love (Code Geass,SteinsGate,Deathnote) So I kind of already know I'm not going to like that series already if the audience of that series hates the stuff I like, which I think is a fair prediction to make.

Like if someone told me they hate Star Wars And Told Me I Should Watch Harry Potter I Aint Trusting You Cuz "How Could You Not Like Star Wars!" That type of attitude, Maybe Ill watch it when ive ran out of everything else to watch

I dont particularly avoid anime but I guess I am trying to avoid MT part 2 because I disliked the first part. Either way I think I will still end up watching it.

Otherwise I avoid some popular or good anime (that I am sure I will like) so that I could watch them or binge them when I am over with exams or whenever I am free.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Anything that seems excessively violent or overly serious. Overly crude or lewd. Artsy fartsy/pretentious. Netflix produced anime. Battle shounen and shows with 100+ episode counts. Sports, card games, police. Anime with the USA as it's setting.

I think that about sums it up.

I have been avoiding a lot of the Isekai Genre. I do plan on getting to them eventually but not right now…or any time soon for that matter. I don’t really have a very good reason other than I don't like the concept.

I noticed Code Geass in your favorites. If we're talking about edgy shows, are there exceptions like in CG's case, or is CG the only exception for you?

As you can see in my drop list, I tried a lot lol.

But ...

- anime that are sexualizing kids
- most ecchi, harem or anime with stupid fanservice
- most of the isekai genre and male power fantasies
- most sports and (card) games, although I have a lot of sports on hold, they are good, but I don't get the patience to.
- idol anime, I tried and some might be cute, but I can't be bothered.
- shoujo that looks too saccharine and sweet
- One Piece. I have too many other anime to (re)watch. Also it's really ugly to look at.
- everything else where I dislike the art style.

Hmm, why would you watch MT part 2 when you didn't like the first part. You already know the overall plot of it and the direction it has taken, as it was shown in part 1. So how come you're going to watch it regardless? Just curious.

I didn't say edgy. I said overly serious. Code Geass is not meant to be taken seriously. I mean...just look at it. Anyone who takes Lelouch seriously is an idiot.

Edgy anime can be great fun. Madoka Magica is very edgy. Made in Abyss, Rozen Maiden, Parasyte are a few edgy anime I enjoy very much.
