Wouldn't of thought anime subreddits were ran by pink haired freaks but i guess i was wrong. The reddit is filled with threads saying to ban this and that since it is such an asinine rule.

Who cares? Traps are not real. Let me know when they ban a real word.

"The offensive nature of the word lies in the implication that individuals are trying to trick (“trap”) others and by extension are not valid in how they present their gender."

But that's exactly what a trap is. Artists entrap audiences by drawing characters a certain way.

I mean the thing is anything can be used in a bad context. When people use trap majority of the time is in a good nature. I know someone who was bullied through the use of the term, so of course mindfulness is fine and good but context really matters as well.

I just think it is stupid to ban when people are using it with majorly positive connotations

I do. I had nightmares for a month straight when the twitch freakshow controversy came up.

Idk if you are being serious or not but if you are.... it offends .01% of people so... who gives a flying fuck? And most of those people don't even watch anime.

the real problem is how this was communicated to the community. Top down. No discussion. Lots of bans. Dumb automod (literally removes every comment with the word trap no matter the context)

Though I also think this is a dumb move on many levels.

Trans and trap isnt the same.

I personally don't think there's some essential unconditional & universal "wrong" about any slur usage, and while I apply this thought to the word "trap" as well, i really don't know if I'm going to miss out on anything now that the (rather stale) subbreddit's banned it lol

That's a good thing.
The only anime traps they use are Astolfo,Hideyoshi and Felix.I am tired od seeing them. There are some really good traps like Ritsu Soma and Lin Xianming. These two actually look like women then those skinny dudes cross-dressing.Even memes have lost standard.Good riddance. The whole sub-reddit sucks with same overused memes and shows.

Term crossdresser is attacked too. It is ironic that those characters helped many discover their sexualité and gender identity and now they are forced to erase that term along with their identity. Unfortunately they have a zero sum policy, without any co-exististence and debate options, discovering negativity everywhere and even claiming this term would lead to violence or even murder.
While one would think that over the years we would become visually literate and critical, this throws things back to the middle ages and at an even worse way

They should ban overly used series tbh. Every goddamn time I see Kaguya-sama with the same template but in different situations. It's not funny anymore. Then there's that one guy posting Erwin memes everyday. It's the same joke over and over.

Uh, guys, what you are doing by saying "some trans people agree with the use of the term" is basically isolating the portions of the community that agree with you and ignoring the rest. It IS a controversial topic so not everybody is going to feel the same way about it, the trans community is not some sort of beehive. Of course some agree and some disagree with this rule.

It is absurd that we are discussing here about another forum and their own policies, but I do think that they could have handled this situation better (auto-banning a polysemic word is ugh... they didn't think it through).

I never understood why anyone would ban any word, it's always about the way you use it. If I say "You shouldn't call transpeople traps, that's rude", why is that offensive? Same with the N-word imo.

as im seeing it its doing nothing but bringing more fuel to a fire most people didnt know existed. and whatever word that replaces trap will become the next slur so its really really poor thinking by the mods. Also, what are they gonna ban the word weeb next cos its a hate word outside the anime community? like where do you draw the line then

I get why it was banned, tbf weebs use the term in the wrong way to the wrong people I don't blame anyone if they find it offensive.

It's not like r/animememes is supervised by "pink haired freaks", but in fact r/trans community demanded it to be outlawed, because they deemed it as offensive.

It requires special kind of stupidity to consider one of the most common anime trope and probably exclusive to anime as offensive.
Anyway, actually I suspect that those people in fact do not really care, but pretend in order to gain attention and make themselves look virtuous.

In the end, r/animememes mods did the worst thing possible and caved in to demands of the mob, from which they won't get anything, not even "thank you" and from their own just scorn and reputation as pansies, from which you may demand anything.

I never saw the term "trap" used outside the anime community or at trans people. Kind of sad how malicious individuals can cause such a divide in a community.

My only worry is that given this newfound opportunity they will target the anime community in general.

Alright now I don’t think their decision is good either, but how about you don’t be a little shit about it? You being that annoying will only make the mods feel more justified with themselves

Nah. There was a game that removed something from the game cause fake news game journalists like shitaku said it was homophobic and there was lots of review bombs and troll threads and they reversed it back to normal.

Thats not about the topic itself, but:

Is there even a person who gives a **** about reddit?

It's only used for ingame trades for games which have no marketplace and can be legaly traded. Otherwise it's a complete mess. Even /b is more civilized than those ppl.

It's a pond of ppl who live in their own rainbow world thanks to the medieval up/downvote system.
