Finally, that Ria girl actually speaks.

Nami turns out to be the girl that stood out this episode so it was obvious as hell that she would be in trouble after she made that order. Similar to some of the other characters that died from this show, I can't feel anything for her. The story is so fucking messy with the characters desperately trying to save someone but fails.

I read the manga before this anime started so its nice to see them adapting into anime form. But my biggest complaint is if they wanted to do that they should have stuck with either adapting the first King's Game or just focus completely on the second game. Instead they're trying to fit two stories into one and its not working at all because the second game characters are getting no screen time because of these flashbacks.

This episode continues the trend of having some potentially interesting ideas, but poor execution. The order to "lose something important to you" is rife with potential, but there just wasn't enough time put into the relationship between Nami and Nobuaki for it to really have any impact. And the idea of walking out into the ocean never to be seen again is a bit too dramatic and has too many logistical problems (was she wearing cement shoes?) to be taken seriously... And of course trying to break up with Chiemi like that wouldn't work, she saw his order and knows what he's trying to do, no matter how much she wants to save him he'd never truly lose her that way.

As for the beginning of the episode... A) HOW did Nobuaki know about this village supposedly destroyed by the King's Game, and if he knew why is he just going there now? B) How is kicking the crap out of Nobuaki considered unnecessary by the King, but skipping school to hop on a train to some abandoned village they hope will unveil the secret of the King's Game not?

We finally have our first big hint toward the King's identity though: it's not a person in the class, but it is in the class, and claims they must hate each other to discover its identity. So I'm feeling some intangible emotional phenomenon given life may be the truth of the King...

There is no tension in the flashbacks since we know everyone dies, except Nobuaki. Nami's order didn't go as planned. She touched everyone, but one tunes out to be the king. The poor girl went blind as a punishment and drowned herself because she couldn't handle it. Nobuaki tried to save her, but he was too late.

Every episode is almost completely the flashback. They even show things that most people can guess without watching. Are they doing this to make the show longer or something?

The studio should have adapted the first manga first instead of cramming it through flashbacks in this adaptation. While the content of the flashbacks is good, the main story is advancing at snail's pace and breaks the focus on it. I guess that they are going to told the previous King's Game in the first episodes and center the later ones in the present story, or so I hope.

Man, I feel very bad for Nobuaki, the show must hate him a lot, no wonder he ended like that in the present.
I came to this show to laugh, but those scenes made me feel pity more than anything.

Well.. for feels rating I'd say 4/5 for Nami that actually made me really sad considering how selfless she was. However this episode in general.. I didn't much care for it despite it being GOOD but if they wanted to show THIS much of the manga they should've made a season 1 and this a season 2 so they would actually have time to develop season 2. However they didn't and most of this show so far has been flash back the Anime. . so by the time this season ends I feel it might end up being butchered severely because none of the MCs will get much development.. I mean there are a few characters I would REALLY like to know more about however they seem to be lacking in that area.

ugh... I just checked what studio made this anime. They should keep making hentai/echhi stuff, which they are good at; not horror/drama anime.

I mean, wtf. The MC, Nobuaki, after figuring out his "important" friend got blinded, let her wander around (near a river). Definitely 1/5

Jesus... I'm going to give this series one more chance. If they keep messing up, I think I'm dropping this =/

I thought this episode was very well done. When I read the manga for the first arc this was the part that kept me reading. It's a nice change of pace for the story after what happened earlier. The manga and novel I feel does things a little better but I'm very happy with the anime so far, especially this episode. I like the approach they took, this way they can adapt all of the arcs involved with Nobuaki. I have a feeling the flashbacks will probably end once we hit around episode 9 or 10. That would give them enough time, and they could use the last episodes to wrap up what is currently happening.

I cannot fathom how this series will end. It's been 70% Part 1 and 30% Part 2. This jumping back and forth is something I've grown accustomed with. So that's not my main concern.

My main concern is how much slower will they do Part 2 and I fear they won't even finish it. They aren't even halfway done with showing Part 1 flashbacks. Unless Part 2 has little to no content I would understand, but it's moving at a snail's pace.

I think they're only on Day 3 or 4 of the game...I'm not even sure to be honest since we've kept going back to the past.

"My friend literally JUST went blind, but I'll still let her wander off unsupervised." Just when i thought Nobuaki couldn't get any dumber after letting the friend who was told to kill himself go to the kitchen alone, THIS episode happens.

Also, I'm really worried about how they're going to handle the present-day story. With all these flashbacks taking up every episode, i have a bad feeling they might end up having to rush the actual story after the flashbacks end.

Nobuaki is actually the worst character in this anime.
I rate this ep 1/5.
Nami gave the worst order to herself and commited suicide even though she couldn't see the sea. How did she get there? Did she followed the sound of waves or something?
Alsooo I don't understand Ria, she was like 'I'm the king' and then she wasn't. Why would she say that? I don't get it.

Nobuaki causes a girl to go blind based on a flippant theory,
then he immediately takes advantage of her blindness by lying to her,
then he slanders her name by saying he had sex with her,
and finally, she thanks him and kills herself for him.

How am I supposed to feel sorry for a braindead character?
Nami could have ordered something more practical and less risky for the sake of her love interest, but nooo. Since everyone has an IQ lower than Forest Gump under heavy use of opiate, she has to order herself doing something facepalm worthy... Even though her move to spot the king has theoretically 0,000001% of chance to succeed for all she knows (if he/she is not someone from outside). It doesn't make any sense to endanger her own life as it has more chance to bring her away from the guy she fancy than anything.
Well duh, she barely has any characterization anyway, as she's merely a torture porn plot device against Nobuaki. The intensity of my shrug is proportional to the amount of fuck the writing team had for her as a compelling protagonist.
Anyway, Emo kun is going to forget her completely two episodes later...

Also, I call B-U-L-L... Bullshit! No rule has been established beforehand as about a singular way to tell who's the king. The game purely and simply CHEATED!

At least, I guess that Nami understood the interest she has to go back to her roots. Doesn't her name means "wave" in Japanese, after all?

I wonder if after hearing that story, Kenta didn't say, "Hey Nobuaki, I was about to get this girl to make a rule for herself that she was going to fail. You were going to let us kill ourselves without telling us why we shouldn't do so. What a jerk."

Because really, the moment Kenta made that declaration in the last episode Nobuaki should have said, "No no, no stop. Don't do it!"

I think this show gets better when you don't take it seriously and laugh instead, because nothing here makes sense. There's no tension there's nothing that would make the viewer at the edge of their seat, because we already know the outcome of the flashback. Why get invested with the old class when Nobuaki is the only survivor?

This. You be asking all the right questions.

What was the point of saying "Im the king" when you're not? Unless she was testing something. I kinda thought someone just had to annouce they were the king and then it might work but then nothing happened and she didn't even explain herself. Honestly feels like she just wanted everyone to pay attention to her and cower in fear of her for like 30 seconds and then carry on as normal. Like wtf was that.

Let's make one thing clear: he didn't cause her to go blind. That bitch did that on her own. He's a dumbass but she needs to own her own stupidity. Imagine you confide in your friend by sharing some flippant theories because obviously you're all scared and you want things to end. Then the dumbass goes and puts her life on the line for your theory even though you offered her no concrete proof, she does this WITHOUT consulting you first, especially when there could have been a dozen other ways they could have proved the theory without having to do something like that.

But the rest of your post is accurate. Nobuaki is a bloody idiot, underserving of our sympathy. Which is exactly where this anime fails. We're supposed to care about the characters, especially the main character. But when they continue to do stupid shit like this all we can really feel is "well serves you right, you idiot."

The scene where the girl goes blind, is by far the greatest scene in this anime so far.
It was actually pretty terrifying, to see how the Punishment, can be freaking blindness.

Otherwise, another episode, where everyone is impossibly stupid.
It's obvious that the King is a supernatural entity...so why aren't they researching supernatural things? Why not tell the police about the texts linked to the suicides, which they have evidence of, to get the police to help track down the King?
Why doesn't everyone in class try breaking their phones? If a letter pops up like in the past village, just rip it apart.

That sentiment more or less summarizes Ousama Game's greatest issue, it's impossible to get engaged with the characters. It presents the classical psychological horror idea of "what would you do if you were in this situation", but because the characters are so unbelievably stupid it falls totally flat.
But Ousama Game doesn't stop at simple idiotic characters, they're intentions come off as misguided making them seem like assholes. This is especially bad with Nobuaki; even the people he claims to be friends with he treats horribly.

Maybe if this show had better writing the characters wouldn't make it so painful to watch, which is tragic considering the concept is pretty interesting.

Nothing's happening right now with the second and there are only... like, 8 or 9 episodes left!

Well, I guess Nami and Ria are some redeeming qualities of the anime...
