I feel bad for Akko. The way that she got embarrassed in front of the whole class during the rat transformation lesson was just embarrassing.

I think most interesting part is that a GUY comes to the witch's academy.
Akko should still try to improve her magic skills though imo. It's even causing trouble for the new guests...

Akko and Andou makes an amusing team :o

Ako still needs a lot of practice but she learned a thing or two this episode.
Seems like Chariot wasn't that great at first either but she learned and it also looks like Chariot might be closer to Ako than she thinks.
Judging from the red her of her teacher.

This is by far my favorite episode. I got all teary in the end, when Ursula (Chariot) was there for Akko. It made my heart melt.

Andou x Akko is OTP! So cute!

Pardon the pun but watching the moment where Akko is watching Chariot through the magic orb of magicness was really enchanting. Getting to see her idol go through what seems to be her own ups and downs of learning magic it was really heartwarming. Akko is so lovable she wants to be just like her idol but just isn't very good yet. I've certainly have had feelings of inadequacy like that and I can really find myself relating to her more and more. I teared up a little watching this, it was so (again pardon the pun) charming.

The best episode so far. I like the idea of Akko not being the chosen one, but more like a candidate, clearly Akko has guts and passion like shonen mc, i dislike that part of her. Akko learn a big lesson and we have important chracter develoment.

Andrew confirms that Diana is hardworker, this will make her relation with Akko interesting for further episodes.

Edit:

No, she is the chosen one. The fountain doesn't appear before just any girl. The fact that it appeared to Akko at all means that she is indeed special. She didn't get the power, but that's just because she's not ready yet.

We might have a plot after all. For some reason when I found out Diana and Andrew knew each other, I thought perhaps they might be betrothed. Though giving this series is suppose to be for people of all ages there is no fan service in this series, perhaps a betrothed plot might be too mature for young kids.

We might have a plot, looks like Andrew's dad and people like him might be plotting something against Luna Nova.

My feelings on Andrew, he is not as big of a creep as I thought he would be, but still either way no mater which girl you pair him with, he gets in the way of my ship, leave Akko and Diana alone, and let them be together. I know that won't happen in this type of show but still.

And on thing that really was a let down on this episode, it looked like it was going to be a Diana episode, we learned a little about her past, why wouldn't it be, but it turned into another Akko episode for the billionth time. I guess episode 4 is a rare episode, it always going to be the Akko show, while other characters get the shaft. At least I thought it would be be a Akko / Diana episode, in which Akko learns a little bit about her. That better happen someday.

But the good stuff with Chariot that makes up for it, little Chariot is so cute, and maybe Akko will learn a lesson and take things more seriously from know on. To achieve her goals, you just can't desire it, you have to work for it, this is not all fun and games. please don't let Akko just go back to being her slacker self, let's have some character growth.

Though if I am right about Andrew's dad plotting something, maybe a betrothed plot will still happen, you know to save the school. As long as they not some crazy age difference like in Geass or Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphan, it should be okay.

Good return to form. I really loved this episode. I really like how they handle Akko's character. She isn't always winning but always learning. That is why I love her so much. the art and animation were top notch as always.

So Akko saw that Chariot also struggled at the beggining but ended up succeeding in becoming a proper witch. But there's a HUGE difference between the two. Chariot was a hard worker, she did everything she could in order to become better at magic while Akko does bugger all and still have the guts to question why she is not getting any better. Also, that "reveal" in the middle of the episode....don't give it away so easily Trigger, that could've waited a little bit more even though everyone was already suspecting that Ursula was somewhat related with Chariot.

Definitely the best episode so far and really like the introduction of Andrew, didn't expect to like him tbh because like a lot of people I was thinking a male in my witch anime? but turns out it was just fine and needless worry. Seems like we got some plot going too with a villain...maybe? interesting nonetheless.

And oh did anyone spot Avery? the smug witch in the first episode that sadly rarely appears

Obsolete? The hell? I can think of countless magi-tech uses for even just the specific spells used in the series... Many things that could solve many world problems... Even having transport gates that don't cost fuel is immensely useful for trade. They allow you to bypass thermodynamically lossy systems with energy compensation via channelling.

With animal transfiguration, you could solve literally every habitat crisis on the planet, balance populations, invent creatures to fill gaps or whatever.

These people are all bafflingly ignorant, and it seems like the context of the story will end up being a "magic is good for making people happy"... Old concept, anime have done that since forever. They always fail to comprehend the cornucopia of practical applications.

Bunny Akko starting to cry was pretty damn cute. That rabbit look suits her really well.

Ah, finally, Akko realises you won't get anywhere without real hard work and effort. For a second there I was annoyed she was again trying to find some miraculous power that'd make her great. Thank goodness nothing happened and I do hope she'll progress and work hard from now on.

This episode was quite the doozy =o

First of all, I'm starting to get real sick and tired of all the teachers and students being so mean and hard on Akko all the time and constantly kissing ass to Diane -_- Yeah Akko does a lot of dumb things, but come on man

Anyway, I wasn't surprised to see that pretty boy Andrew and Diane knew each other already so hearing that they are childhood friends didn't really do much for me, although I like that they're kind of at odds with each other via their personal beliefs and as such they don't have the standard childhood friend trope going

What's interesting is how Andrew's dad was faking and how he too believes that magic is obsolete (Which btw is a fucking stupid belief but whatever) and that he referred to Luna Nova and the witches as "the enemy".....Kinda makes me think that maybe he's gonna do something messed up in the future

But regardless, I hope that the adventure that Andrew had with Akko (Which was really fun btw) changed him for the better and that now he understands why magic is a lovely thing that needs to be preserved and expanded further. And most of all, hopefully this lesson manages to allow Akko to get better as a character and improve her skills because after seeing her reaction to the Chariot stuff, I'm rooting for her to achieve her goal even more now

Overall, another great episode this was and OH MY GOODNESS THAT TWIST WITH URSULA.....If she's actually Chariot (When I saw the red hair my mind was blown) I'm gonna flip my shit lol because I honestly didn't expect something like this to be a possibility.....I just figured that she's a fan of Chariot too or something but never did I think to consider that she's Chariot but in disguise O_O

I'm a little disappointed with this episode. That theme about there not being a special ingredient and requiring hard work (including setbacks) should have been the core of the episode. However, it felt constantly interrupted by the introduction of Andrew and a setup for a later antagonist or conflict.

The meeting of Andrew and Akko could have been handled differently. Either as a scenario where Akko somewhat shatters Andrew's impression of magic (antiquated & useless) OR Akko introduces Andrew into the fun side of Magic by going through a short adventure. It seems that Andrew's only previous introduction to magic was from Diana; whom is a little uptight and doesn't particularly express the exciting aspects of magic.

Now, many will believe that this episode did everything that I'd mentioned earlier, but I felt like it could have been executed a little better. There wasn't really any motivation for Andrew to follow Akko except for removing the ears because he doesn't want people to see him in that state. However, he came off really apathetic and didn't learn/experience anything new from meeting Akko.

Professor Ursula being Chariot was kinda obvious, I guess a lot of us might have already expected that to happen but still, I was kinda hoping the reveal to happen in a more serious situation xD
The episode was really enjoyable. The whole Chariot flashback at the Fountain of Polaris was so beautiful. Loved seeing what kind of person she was a kid. Akko is more similar to Chariot than she realises ^^ Her bunny face was really cute tho haha.
I really like how the M.C in the series is not perfect and is always trying to learn new things. Looks like she wasn't ready to learn the new magic yet.
Magic is obsolete? Pfft. Please. And it looks like Andrew's father is planning something.

Akko still needs to learn more about magic. Diana and Andrew are childhood friends, but he thinks that magic is obsolete. Andrew having the donkey tail and ears because of Akko was funny. Seeing the flashback for Chariot was very cool. Akko learned she won't achieve her goal unless you work hard. She looks cute as a rabbit.

I think the problematic position for magic in that world rests on the shoulders of the current witches. Instead of growing magic and developing along with technology, they turned inward. Look at that "performance" they put on for their guests. Not exactly on the level of entertainment Chariot could do. Traditions are good and shouldn't be forgotten, but not to the point that you exclude growth. Of course technology is outpacing magic, magic isn't even trying to keep up. It's no wonder some people like Andrew or his father don't think it has a place in the future.

This was the moment Akko needed. Her problems to this point probably came from a few sources. One being not putting in the amount of effort needed. It isn't just saying a phrase and magic happens, understanding is key. Akko hasn't done the book learning needed. And the other problem was probably finding the Shiny Rod and starting to think that she was really special so she'd just make things happen by wishing for it. She may be special and the Rod did choose her. But, she still has to put in the work.

Andrew seems to be a good guy. Understandable going in why he felt how he did about magic. But through this I think he gained some understanding on some good things (and some dangerous things). At least seeing Akko's emotional moment and the scene in that fountain probably changed his mind on things.

Good episode. This will hopefully really start Akko's upward movement. She's hit a low point, did some soul searching, and learned a lesson. Now maybe she's ready for Ursula to really spend time with her and tutor her (great reveal there with the red hair changing back).

The world building here really needs to be better established at this point. It is starting to piss me off, with Trigger's track record in writting, I am beginning to doubt whether the world will be properly established.
We have seen magic being capable of essentially anything, bending space in this episode alone. Yet the technology/magic clash shows us nothing about why technology is winning over. Even if magic was obscure and hard to learn and secretive, it makes no sense.

Secondly, why does it seem that the characters are getting more and more bland by the episode. No one here had any character apart from Akko, and even that was just her being clumsy and liking Chariot.

The visuals with the gate and the orbs were pretty, but that's about it. Apart from cuteness, I don't see what LWA has to offer anymore.

A pretty fascinating episode it was. =)

Akko is still having trouble with basic magic and as a result of her failed attempts, she got a cute rabbit look. I would like to see that look of hers again in the future. =P

Andrew pretty much disregarded magic as pointless, which is the total opposite of Diana's views. After encountering Akko and going off on an adventure to find the Fountain of Polaris and what came after it, I do hope it's change his opinion about witches. For his father though, I sense that he'll be the main antagonist that we'll see again in future episodes to come.

Seeing Chariot as she struggled with magic in her student days, just like Akko, was interesting. Her way of helping the old lady cross the road was funny though.

But Akko should thank Ursula, whose hair of hers, rather interestingly, changed to red during her spell that saved Akko and Andrew from the massive bear before reverting back to her normal blue hair. Another good hint that Ursula is Chariot, but I'm sure our obvious questions will be answered eventually.

I wonder if Akko will find out Chariot's true identity and if she does, well that change the nature of her relationship with Ursula.

Kind of different because she really didn't meet her until after she know who she was, but in Sailor Moon when Usagi meet her idol Sailor V, she still treated Minako as one of the girls, one of the team. You didn't see her just act like a fan girl every time she see Minako.

I wonder if Akko will treat Ursula any differently.

Well, last episode had people scratching their heads, but this one gave them a bottle of coconut oil to make up for it. This episode was very good, and it even delved into the lore of the series, and answered a rather cryptic question, is Miss Ursala Shin...Yes, yes she is. And that's one weak part of the episode, though vague, the red hair reveal should at least be well concealed. However, if the show can outdo THAT twist then rock me Amadeus, I'll give it a pass.
Also, Andrew and Akko's character development was also well done too. We have a devilishly handsome son of a politician who once knew Diana, get turned into a rat, horse, person hybrid (?), but what really sets him apart is how he is a parallel to Akko, coming off as less interested in magic and someone smarter than Akko (He can read Latin!!) And when Akko dives deep into a part of Chariot's past and realize that through her humble beginnings, Shiny Chariot wasn't born in a day.

Old lady: Yes, she was.

No I was saying that...never mind. And the scene when she realizes that there are no shortcuts to being a witch, and she tears up, I think a bit of me started crying.
The ending however, was a rather haunting. Why does the minister want the academy run down? Is there a conspiracy? Will Shiny Chariot fit into THIS lore? Will that old lady stOP BARGING INTO MY REPLIES??!!! JEEZ lady, my patience can tolerate for so long!
ONWARDS! Away from homework and on to more anime!!!
