Hmm, might have to get used to that OP song.

I see feelings of revenge coming from this episode. Even as a young child, that girl has such feelings. So yeah, it seems the main focus is following Sawa's journey to take her revenge and she goes through some shit like not dying before accomplishing her goal.

Gotta say though, this anime isn't shy for bloodshed and Sawa doesn't hesitate to kill. I honestly expect the show to retain this style of storytelling every week.

The existentialism of combining alternate Meiji-era Tokyo with Western values, I'm getting lots of red flags.

Fearless is Nue executioner Sawa Yukimura, but all the name-throwing will have to be regarded as such (except for Janome, the one that supposedly lead to the blue power and Sawa's answer of her murdered parents).

Still quite open-ended about this one, though Sawa living her life for revenge is a justifable one, along with the violent amounts of gore and bloodshed.

So, our main girl is actually a victim whose family and village was massacred right in front of her eyes, and she's looking for revenge but doesn't know who killed em'.
For that, she was turned into what is called a Nue Exexutioner. That treasurer woman sure is a handy person to have by your side knowing how much she knows. But, nope not for long.
Also, I felt bad for Asahi as well. She wants to kill Sawa but also cares for her. This sure was quite a bloody episode.

Both of the RAS's songs, the OP and ED, are great.

The story got darker and darker. We might see more revenge and betrayal in the future episode. That Treasurer is knowing too much and can remember everything, especially the massacre which she can still remember the details about it. No wonder why she was killed.
The relationship between Yukimura and Asahi was amazed me as Yukimura being the one who killed Asahi's parents, and they are living together. While Asahi still wants and doesn't want to kill Yukimura for her revenge. That's a tough decision for her.

The OP is a banger, that raw and gritty style used for some of the action scenes is amazing. The backstory part was great, gave context to the scene from last episode. Nice intrigue at the end there

Are we gonna vitnes the mahou shoujo transformation every single episode ?

The "treasurer" death was kinda give, i mean she knows everything about everyone right ? And if any media about spies/secret organisations taught me something is that people like that dont live long enough. Also i don't like one thing, the little girl parents ...why does anime desperately try to portrait the main girl as a good one ? The parents were obviously abusing their kid and the mc chick basically saved her.

Looks like Yukimura isn't really well liked among her fellows. Its tragic to see a little girl having to dig graves for her murdered kinsmen. The insight into her early days was interesting though. Funny how a simple escort mission turned into a desperate defence one. Beyond the lights of the cities this world sure looks a bloody battleground. Overall a decent ep that did well to expand upon both the setting and the origin for Yukimura. Looks like the traitor was right in their midst after all.

The back story is so deep and sad and proud to Asahi to still being loyal to Yukimura even if Yuki kills her father and mother. I starting to like this show from bit to bit, so epic fight scene and plot thou is reminds me Samurai X for some reasons lol

Yea this definitely gonna be one of the sleepers of the season. I love the art and the alternate timeline shogunate set up in japan. I love a good revenge quest, and there’s nothing hotter to me than a girl in kimono.

This second episode did a much better job of setting up the plot and world of the series and I’m really looking forward to where it goes. Blonde assassin taking out the lady at the end took me by a surprise and was a nice cliffhanger to leave off on.

Also damn man, Bandori got 3 songs this season in various anime lmao

The art and animation is inconsistent. It looks good in some parts and bad in others (most often in fight scenes). I find the sound mixing to be bad at times too with the voices sounding a little tin can-y or not fitting with the scene. I like the music though and there are a lot of interesting character motives.

That OP was fucking awesome. ED was really good too. Loved the illustrations in the ED and the animation of the 2nd half of the OP with the action so much. Rest of the episode was alright too. It's got its flaws for sure, and some predictable points that could easily happen in the future but I'm not having a bad time with this so far.

Well, on one hand, I would say that the first episode was a lot more fun than this one. More style, more action, more characters being badasses. This one did handle the dramatic elements a lot better than most of the other ones dealing with touchy subjects though. Not so much Sawa's backstory, which isn't terribly interesting. Her ward's was a bit more compelling. Her parents were trying to prostitute her out when Sawa found them and killed them for other reasons. So, certainly mixed feelings about Sawa there, but also didn't dwell on it since she wasn't an important part of the episode. There's also something going on with some of the side characters who want to kill Sawa for her own good, but would rather do it passive-aggressively. That's about as far as that goes though.

As for the non-flashback parts of the episode, they had to escort a woman with eidetic memory who knew aaaaalllll the secrets, about everything. Not that she shared any of them, except the government is busy genociding dissidents and covering it up, but we're already overlooking a literal slave camp on our tram ride, so I'm not sure that comes as a big surprise. Nor does it that the shadowy group of government assassins would kill her instead of dropping her in a boat to go off… uh… wherever. The woman was basically all death flags.

Why? Today is the last chapter of the manga and they want to tear down any other anime and competition so that their series looks better in comparison

So Sawa watched her whole family get murdered by Janome and now she wants revenge. Jin recruits her to the Nue organization and she becomes Nue's strongest asset. We also find out that the reason why Sawa was also the one who killed Asahi's parents so the vicious cycle of violence and bloodshed continues. I guess that's the reason why Sawa and Asahi don't really speak to each other when they are alone together because Asahi reminds Sawa too much of herself when she was young and lost her parents. That guilt is going to cost Sawa her life if she doesn't find a way to address it. Elena and Sawa was assigned to protect the Treasurer, but they were ambushed by members of the anti-establishment. Turns out that the Treasurer was killed along with her son for knowing too many secrets including the reason why Sawa's village was burned to the ground.

I also like the OP and ED.

I thought it was sad to see our main girl go through a trauma since. She a child. Losing family like that in a fire arson as a child is really traumatising so I 100% understand where she’s coming from to get revenge on those who intentionally killed her family like that. I also praise her for saving the little girl whose parents sold her off to a older man like Makato should realise this!

It’ll be interesting to see what the blond chick will have to say about why she killed that woman, cliffhangers are a curse man!

Still very pleased with the style of the series, especially where it counts (fight scene). RAS doing both OP and ED - both sound very good. Soundtrack on point too.

Pretty good episode, Yukimura doesn't really care about Nue, all she cares about is her revenge, like Kuzuhara said, Nue is using Yukimura and Yukimura is using them. R.I.P. to the treasurer though, that fucking sucks, why did they kill her though, ain't her knowledge pretty important, well I guess they don't need her anymore or they just don't want Yukimura to find out the truth, probably both.

I don't feel any remorse for Asahi's family, I am not saying they deserve it but, yeah they do lmao. Yukimura seeing Asahi must have reminder her of herself, that's why she took her in and I guess someone to kill her once she finally achieves her revenge.

OP and ED slaps hard, Raise a Suilen is awesome. Looking forward to the next episode.

It's...alright? I want to hold off on my judgment for the series so far, but most of my noted faults from last episode still carry over.

The art style is still inconsistent, not that it's ever bad, in fact I like it quite a lot; it just fails to adhere to a constant style. (yes I know that the fight and normal art styles are different, but they tend to bleed into each other a bit too much for my liking). Also, it might just be personal opinion, but the pacing feels odd? Between the amount of time it took to address the cliffhanger from last episode, the seemingly non-linear plot progression at times, and the incredibly abrupt ending, I feel like the writers have a good story in mind, but no real idea on how to translate down into animation.

The OP and ED were very nice though. Good music and a visually appealing art style. This series definitely has potential, so I'm just waiting on the studio to get the hang of things.

This show feels very amateurish. A lot of problems I see with it are not issues you should be finding in a story written by someone who has even a moderate amount of experience. One thing people people will regularly criticize older anime for is shitty exposition, and the exposition in this episode was very reminiscent of the lazy exposition you'd find from older anime. The treasurer was explaining things about the government, the opposition and the anti-opposition (Nue) to Sawa, but Sawa wasn't born yesterday and is part of Nue, so she should know all this. The treasurer is basically just reciting all of this to the viewer, she might as well have been looking straight at the camera as she was talking about it. Also, aside from the one flashback, this completely broke the "show, don't tell" rule, which this medium is already notorious for breaking quite often.

All my issues from the first episode were still here. The dialogue was still very basic, the characters still feel very flat and like the writer came up with them when he was a teen (I don't like using the term edgy, but I literally can't use anything other than edgy to describe all of these characters). The twist with a certain character at the end does not matter at all considering we barely even know the character so it has absolutely not impact at all whatsoever.

It's also not just the characters that fall flat personality wise, the show itself does not have an identity. There's nothing to really differentiate it from it's peers, the sound design is alright, the artstyle while probably being the best part kind of fluctuates in quality, the animation is very boring, and so on. You have shows like Jujutsu Kaisen really focusing on animation and cool powers, and Attack on Titan with it being an uphill battle against despair, but this show has nothing to really latch onto. It doesn't do any one thing particularly well, and every idea it has is straight up rehashed from other shows.

I almost feel bad shitting on this show after seeing the amount of 1/5s it's getting, but I just can't help it, I was looking forward to this one after seeing the trailer during the CR awards. I'm really trying not to shit on this show in bad faith, I would love it if episode 3 comes out and pulls some cool shit and convinces me to give it another chance, I would love to admit I was wrong and for all of my criticisms to no longer apply and any doubts of mine be proven wrong, but as it stands I'm very much going to be dropping this next week if episode 3 isn't a genuinely amazing episode.

Edit: Wait, is the score really botted? Why this show of all shows?

Well, just as I was thinking this episode was an improvement, we got some horrendously clumsy exposition from the Treasurer in the tunnels that completely took me out of the show. All of that was stuff Sawa should already know, so there had to have been a better way to provide that necessary contextual exposition to the audience. That aside, the show pretty much entirely glossed over the cliffhanger and is using that as part of some silly subplot where the loli will presumably try and fail to kill Sawa every episode. Why is that guy in the hat trying to get Sawa killed anyway, when they both work for Nue? I'm guessing the implication is that he's a mole from an anti-government group, but it's weird to introduce this element so early when we still barely know anything about the characters at all (same with the stupid ending twist with the prostitute murdering the Treasurer: why should we care?).

Beyond the actual writing being very iffy, the fight scenes feel very poorly directed. Take the brief skirmish in the alleys behind the restaurant: there's no real sense of flow to the scene and the camera intentionally pans away from Sawa initially to hide how impossible it would be for her to pull out that sword and kill the assailants before she or the Treasurer were riddled with bullets. The fight scenes with the Changelings are also nothing short of pathetic, with almost as much time spent on her "transformation" as on the actual fight scene (which just involves Sawa one-shotting the enemy without any intensity whatsoever). And inserting poetry over the end of every fight is just dumb; it's one of those things an inexperienced writer/director would do because they think it's cool, when in reality it's just cringeworthy when the rest of the show is taking itself very seriously.

My prediction for where the plot is going is that Sawa's village were killed by the Nue because they heard that a Changeling was among them, and the show's gonna end with Sawa discovering this truth and taking on the entire organisation herself. Mind you, I highly doubt I'll still be watching the show long enough to find out. I'm giving it one last chance next week, but I fully expect I'll end up dropping it.

Whatever happens, RAS have absolutely killed it with both the OP and ED, as I've come to expect from them by this point
