I'm guessing these episodes aren't really in succession... and that in those episodes where Ginko leaves and returns after months/years/etc., that the other episodes have been going on. Or he's just really slow at aging? Maybe he doesn't age? O: (Kidding about the latter.)

Anyway I agree that the little "romance" part of this episode was... cute. And I really liked the scene with the uso-buki all in "bloom" during the winter. Pretty!

Mushishi is great at capturing subtle things. I think people complaining about not enough romance might be missing that point. It was a subtle romance that I think fit perfectly with the show's theme of subtle beauty with a hint of sadness. The people are weak in the winter comment really epitomizes that.

My favorite parts were when Ginko was teaching Miharu and Ginko looking annoyed lol. The butterflies were really adorable and how they all landed on Ginko when he passed out.
Suzu is one of my favorite females in this series now.

Great episode as usual, this show never stops delivering beutiful and sometimes sad stories. Also nice to see that Ginko isn't allways "imune" to mushi.

One of the or probably the most beautiful and simbolic episode in the series. One of my favourite. And so deep ending...

I was waiting, and waiting, for a winter episode and I finally got one. Not the best episode, but as always it was great. The whole idea of sleeping and winter just fit so well together.

Perfect situation would be a woman to travel along side with him who's a mushi-shi herself,

I liked Suzu and him as a couple too, but yes if someone could find someone to travel with him that would be nice. Saying he wouldn't come again in the winter, cause he'd want to stay there was telling.
I think that was one of my favorite episodes so far.

Ginko was weak this winter because he was bound to the warmth of the house, as well as the boy - to the Mushi. He knew it was not so easy to move on, but staying was not the thing he wanted to do.

Ohh that makes sense :) I was wondering what he meant when he said he was weak in winter.
KatsuraRen said:

Same, it was cute when he was teaching the boy about different kinds of mushi, and Suzu seems to be fond of Ginko. It really is too bad that he can't stay in one place for too long.

sweet episode nice to see ginko does indeed have room for romance since by what he said it could be he was getting close to her as well especially after the arm hug part. THe thing is I wonder how long does he have to be away for the mushi to clear the area again. Since it could work out if he stood for a little left to travel then came back over and over.

Yes, it was indeed a not so sad episode... at least no one died :)
Still, it's a pity to see Ginko leaving that place, away from Suzu and Miharu...

Is it just me... or did Ginko seemed a bit cool in his long, high-collared coat?
Perhaps I got that feeling because of that arm hug scene :)

This episode was a nice change of pace from the barrage of sadder episodes before. Back to some good ole mushi action with very "strange neighbors." I liked the hint of romance with Suzu, although it's a bit sad to think that Ginko could never settle down, even if he wanted to. This series really knows how to get a message across while remaining subtle about it, especially with that end comment of his about being weak in winter.

Ginko and Suzu would have made a cute couple plus Miharu could have studied more under Ginko. But alas, Mushi-shi weren't meant to settle down I guess.

Beautiful episode.

Enjoyed Ginko spending time with Suzu.
If Suzu doesn't have romantic feelings for Ginko, you can at least see that she trusts him ALOT.
Sayin' this because she let Ginko stay over for quite a long time despite only meeting him recently.

And about Ginko attracting mushi, this is farfetched but I think it might be connected with his vision.
Going back to episode 12, Yoki(Ginko's old name) gave up his eye to Ginko (Mushi) and the other eye, Tokoyami (the darkness mushi). Nui mentions how she can see perfectly in the dark perhaps the reason why is that the Tokoyami in her good eye are EATING the darkness and emitting light so that she herself can see. How can the tokoyami emit light? Well Ginko(mushi) lives in perpetual darkness which IS tokoyami.

So maybe it's the interaction between the Ginko(mushi) in the good eye that attracts mushi. It might be that that beautiful green pupils we see are actually the light emitted from Ginko(mushi) illuminating their corneas. Seeing as the light emitted by Ginko(mushi) turn LIVING THINGS into tokoyami, so whenever Ginko has his eyes open, the faint light emitted from Yoki's(Ginko) eyes , while not strong enough to convert living things into tokoyami quickly, would convert anything after repeated exposure which is a reason he can't stay in one place for too long.

And is also the reason why Suzu's house wasn't a mushi parade. Ginko had his eyes closed the entire time during the winter.

As I said farfetched...but I believe the theory makes sense.
To anyone who actually reads this, thanks and I hope I didn't confuse you.

This depicted Japanese way of showing affection in a lovely way (dropping "san" and the polite way of speaking, hugging). It suited the overall atmosphere really well. For me this is probably the first episode that actually felt even better than the manga version.

Another episode where Ginko's presence ended up causing some screw ups. xD

Aside from that, this was a very relaxing episode. It's nice to see an episode that isn't emotionally taxing. Nothing sad, nothing overly dramatic, just a nice, peaceful atmosphere. Great episode, great change of pace. And I, too, loved the hint of romance in the episode.

Yup, I was ready to board that ship even though I knew it wouldn't happen, haha. RIP Suzu x Ginko. Other than the beautiful scenery of the spring/winter I would say the answer to this episodes mystery was obvious.
