OK, that ending was GOOD, I mean, damn good. I was thinking they were going to go in a different direction for a moment there, but it ended just as I had imagined. What a touching moment; seriously good writing right there. Nothing stereotypical, just good emotional writing and a great moment off the baseball field. That was excellent.... Seriously, this one goes up in my top 5 of all time, not just because of the nestalgic feeling it gives me because of all teh baseball, but the writing towards the end was excellent with all parties involved. I was pumped just watching the show and the outpouring of emotion towards the climax was excellent... Also, the music in the OP and ED were really good throughout. Even with the tinge of sadness they make you walk the tightrope on, the love that is brought out in the music is excellent...

Very cute OP that was played for about 20 or so of the episodes. It sounds so annoying at first, but then it gets super catchy.

Damn, I'm going to miss this anime. I've only seen two sports anime so far, that being this and Ping Pong and I really think I'm going to start giving more of them a try because this was amazing. One of the few things I didn't like was how little character development Senda, Mizuki, and Nakanishi's girlfriend got. I also didn't like how the 160 k/m fastball wasn't made as big of a deal as I think it should've been. I wish we could see them at the Koushien because I want more to watch and really want to see how they do. The OP was one of the best I've seen as I watched it all 50 episodes. Same goes for the first ED being so impactful. Well, I guess that's it. I'm going to miss all these amazing characters but I'm glad I got to experience this awesome anime.

I'm still in that hazy just-finished-a-freaking-great-anime phase, so my thoughts are all jumbled. xD

This was SUCH a great series...I can't believe I've avoided this anime for so long(it was mostly because I didn't like the art style LOL). Are Adachi Mitsuru's other works this good? Because if so, I'm definitely going to be reading more of his works.

At first, I was so upset at Akane's first appearance(because that has GOT to be the most overused cliche), but hey, she's a cool gal, and now I'm pretty okay with it. And she seems to be possessed by Wakaba's spirit? xD

I wish there was more spotlight for women's baseball...it just really isn't something you really see, and I was super excited at Aoba slaying at the All-Japan team tryouts.
Also, although Aoba and Kou are cute, I couldn't really see the build-up to their relationship in the end. This anime definitely needed more romantic focus(and no Mizuki...like at all. What was his purpose there anyway? Same for that mean manager girl--now turned nice). I think they're actually one of the few couples in anime that are crazy similar to each other. Usually anime feature pretty polar couples...

Anyway, I give this a 10/10! I had a great time watching this! Blew all of my expectations out of the water!

I don't know, maybe it was the subs but even with all we learned in this episode, I still didn'treally understand the whole it's a lie thing. I just don'tunderstand where that came from. It's a lie meaning aoba didn't really hate him all along and he knew it all along but pretended he didn't. I just couldn't understand why he said that when she asked if he liked her better than Akane. How could anyone understand what he meant then.

It's quite simple, and very spectacular(and safe) way to confess Kou used here:
"Is a lie OK"?
"Yeah"
"We will go to Koshien"
"I will pitch 160km/h"
"I love Aoba Tsukishima more than anyone else"
So he told this as a lie in the first place to Aoba, but during the game, he took them to Koshien, and he pitched 160 km/h, which means it was a lie from the beginning that he was going to lie about that, so the last thing, that he loves Aoba, wasn't lie, just like the others weren't a lie. He was damn clever with that, because he was able to confess after fulfilling all of the expectations everybody have about him(and he about himself), and if he messed up with something than he really would be simply lying about all of this. ;)

*[]= my thoughts in the middle of a quote

Great explanation, Rugald. ^^

Let me elaborate

When he won the game and pitched, he was confirming that those two "lies" were actually the truth, and when he hugged her as hard as he could near the end of the episode, he was telling her that the "lie" "And... I love Tsukishima Aoba the most!" (More than anyone else in the world) was actually the TRUTH, that he really does love her, romanticly of course. And then she slaps him and she says

Aoba: " I've told you I hate you!"
Kou: "Yeah, i know. Probably more than anyone in the world."

After he says this she realizes that he understands what she truly means
She then has a flashback of Kou "lying", and then she confesses in the same fashion, by "lying"

Aoba: " All this time... I've hated you."

...because she knows he'll understand what she truly means

Kou: "I know."

After this she just let's it all out and cries on his chest, and we see Azuma look a little sad, knowing he's lost Aoba to Kou. On a same note Kizumi (Im almost sure thats spelled wrong) leaves to the mountains, also realizing his defeat.

Also to rap it up with Akane; Nakanashi and Azuma set up Akaichi (That has to be spelled wrong) alone with Akane in the hospital.

Kou and Aoba also have their "first picture alone together" (hugging BTW) and though Aoba drags Kou by hand towards the train station when he tries to go back and get a copy from the "fan" who took it, we see a flashback of her asking for a copy of the photo for her own personal keeping.

Aoba: "(Geez. Why does he always have to do the same thing...)" (Flashback of her asking for a copy. Just as he was going to do...the same thing)

(In flashback) Ichiyou: "You and Kou...you two are just alike."

In other words she didn't want him to do the exact same thing as her

Aoba: "(Geez...)"

(At the train stop)

Kou: "How much longer are you going to hold my hand?"
Aoba (while not showing her face): "If you don't like it, you can let go."
Kou: "Okay." So of course he doesn't let go.

Aoba: "(That's right. He knew it all.
The depth of sorrow after losing Waka-chan.
The fun memories of her.

No matter how much I put up a pretense... [When she says she hatedhim] ...or lied...[when she said hates him, instead of saying she loved him, more than anyone else] ...he understood all along. He's a pain, but I knew it. [what her feelings were]

I hate [Love] him more than anyone in the world.)"
And the shot widens showing them still holding hands as the train passes in front of them.

Honestly I wish this would have all been written more clearly, instead of having to rewatch the ending to catch it most of it.

I also wish they would've had a few more episodes "after the confession", it would've been nice to see some open moments between them, rather than the beating around the bush they lways did before their roundabout confession. I like Rom-coms that do a little beating around the bush, but I especially expect those ones to have bigger pay offs, and this one could've used a bigger, clearer pay off

Aoba had such a typical childlike mentality, then mentality that youngins usually have when they like someone. Always being aggressive/mean/annoying etc... towards Kou. It was cracking over these last few episodes and finally broken in this one. Kou, not being the typical dense MC, could see through the facade so very easily. Yuuhei is such a good guy, may he find the best girl ever. Too bad we didn't get to see the Koshien tournament, it's pretty big (49 teams). Let's hope they went on to win it.

Great show, great ending.

Looking at the scores of the previous 5 pages seems I'm the odd one out.

Didn't like any of the characters and enjoyment wise this anime basically nonexistent for me.

5/10,should be harsher with this score but could tell this was a good show that just wasn't meant for me.

I have mixed feelings about the ending. The scene with the embrace was a bit better than I expected in that crying scenes tend to be done rather poorly, but it worked out well enough. In the end I do still feel like the relationship between Kou and Aoba is a bit awkward as a romance-- they could have developed the latter stages a bit better if they were going to end it that way-- but overall I thought the loose strings were tied up quite well, and I can imagine some of the kinks in their relationship getting ironed out later on.

This show is in many ways a good example of what I would like the slice of life genre to be more like. We got a small view of a critical parts of these characters' lives, but they don't end here. We just got to see how they became who they are and hints at who they will become in the future, and that's fine. The tension during the baseball segments was good, as was the subtle changes in relationship between the characters over the course of the series.

So although I think a better ending could have boosted my lasting impression by quite a bit, in a general sense I'm still satisfied.

I marathoned this in 2 days... Good Lord I have never heard myself say "damn it just hook up already with Kou and Aoba" They just needed to resolve their grief issues before hooking up and it took them 3 effing years to do that. The baseball was tasteful but damn the character growth and the emotional moments of Kou and Aoba were the lynchpin of the series. 50 eps? So what it has really high re-watch value I found an anime that trumped ToraDora off my favorite Romance series.

10/10 anime

Tbh until the last few episodes I was never really sure if the show was really going to pair up Kou and Aoba, I was hoping the Wakaba look alike was just a red herring but... couldn't be sure. I thought the ending should have been obvious given the constant hints thrown at us with how Kou and Aoba acting with each other but I couldn't help but believe they were going to end with a "friends" ending and put Aoba with Azuma and him with the doppelganger. I'm thrilled it didn't go that way and though I was hoping for more of the two together for real it still wrapped up very nicely.

I can't quite give this a perfect score though as I didn't have a few issues. The cousin for one seemed completely pointless, his addition didn't amount to anything and just wasted screen time that could have been spent with the main cast or Azuma's brother who was my favorite supporting character. I also really wanted to see more of Aoba with her own pitching, that one game she was in wasn't enough, she needs her own Koshien, supporting the team is fine and all but she should get her own glory as well.

Also felt at times the emotion didn't drive in as deep as it could have, some situations came and got more of a shallow look then they really could have used and were then passed by. Still this was a fantastic show, watched in under a week so really held my interest. Good enough for a rewatch as well especially as I got the ending I wanted.

Very good anime. Really. It's 3am and I went with 1 run (homerun hehehhhehehee) like 20 episodes.
Ending was fantastic.

I still want some "afterstory"/ova/movie about main tournament. I felt like they cut story in half and yes I know that manga end in the same ponit, but still...

This anime doesn't feel like a traditional sport focus anime. It more like a slice of life anime with baseball in the background, kinda like how K-ON is more about cute girls hanging out in a club than making light music.

Good anime though!

Kou lied when he ask "can i lie" the truth is he spoke the truth
and he knew everything about aoba
the thing with " she hates kou" etc

wow okay, that was....really good. i'm happy with the ending, 10/10. i teared up so many times

i thought 50 episodes was going to be too much and that it would be dragged out. i've never been more wrong. this anime could of easily had another 20 episodes without being boring. (maybe even more) their relationships could of been further explored

like i can easily see this anime continuing after the final game. like Aoba trying for women's baseball again or maybe trying to make it on the team in official games since she's a second year. although showing college life and everyone going their separate ways would have been difficult. i wish they weren't third years :(

oh man that was so good, it's going to be so hard to watch anything after this

I don't necessarily think that Akane was bad writing, it signaled a shift that... Wakaba will be Wakaba, a memory that can not be replaced, but cannot be used forever as a blockage in life. Although i do disagree with the same appearance thing, but all in all Cross Game was good enough to be a remembered anime to come back to.

I don't know what to do with my life after finishing this show I don't even know why this one really got me. For some reason the romance in this show really appealed to me. Something about the idea of the relationship between a guy and his dead childhood girlfriends younger sister who hates him really interested me and I'm glad I watched the whole thing the last episode was really satisfying with the whole "Can I Lie?" thing. I'm probably gonna rewatch this show because I don't know what else to do since my mind is just on this show and I get get off of it.

i feel really guilty for some reason that we marathon an anime series in 2 days what they make in an year or people who follow it for an year lol, i thought show would end with them becoming national champs or playing at nationals but seeing how many episodes were left knew it wasn't coming or thought they would just show us glimpse of it in the final episode that they played there.Anyway, kou took all the glory at the end. Senda's scene was really amusing and that "can i lie" scene was really something... ahh it has ended.

So ever since watching this anime, ive always wondered: did aoba already love kou when wakaba was still alive? In her childhood diaries, she always wrote that she hated kou. Doesnt that imply that she loved Kou even then? What about Kou? Did Kou really love Wakaba romantically? Or would he have ended up with Aoba even if Wakaba stayed alive?

Perfect...Perfect...Perfect...
It has been a crazy ride in my week...
Cross Game is the best sport anime for me and also best slice of life with not forced comedy inside...
When most of sports anime make the MC win in their first year, it's not the same for Cross Game that should wait for the third year. Absolutely love this realistic side.
Have been enjoying this series from the start and
I LOVE HOW KOU CONFESS TO AOBA XD <3 (Best confession ever IMO)

Thanks for this series, Adachi Mitsuru.

10/10 for this episode and 11/10 for this anime. Gonna rewatch it someday for sure.. This anime has been giving me a big smile every episode from the starts :)

Damn, that was such an unexpectedly enjoyable ride!

When I watched the first episode, Wakaba's death came as a surprise, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to carry on with the anime, but I'm just so glad I did! This was my first sports anime, and I went into it not knowing anything about baseball, but by the 10th episode or so, I'd already learnt so many of the rules of baseball, either directly from the anime or by looking it up after watching an episode!

I was rooting for Kou x Aoba from the beginning, so I'm so thrilled that they got together, especially because it seemed obvious in the first few episodes but I really started doubting it during the period of Kou/Akane and Aoba/Azuma :(

For me, the ending was perfect! The scenes with the lie, the final game, the crying and finally the hand holding seemed perfect for their relationship, given the pace at which it developed, and the execution was flawless!

I have to say though, throughout the entire series, Azuma was my favourite character (except in the first few episodes when he seemed extremely unlikeable) :') his development was probably an example of some of the best character development I have seen in fiction, which includes both anime and other media! At first, I really didn't expect to become so attached to him, but from the moment when he purposely injured himself to see how Coach Daimon and his team fared without their amazing cleanup hitter, I had a feeling he was going to end up as one of my favourite characters! (Kinda like how Prince Zuko does in Avatar The Last Airbender, although their characters are quite different)

One thing he said particularly struck true for me: "I'm more human than you imagined, aren't I?" and that summed up my thoughts about him :) he was a very smart character, both tactically in terms of baseball, and emotionally when picking up subtle hints about other's feelings! And he just had so many moments when he'd say something so bluntly or just make me laugh with his stoic attitude and slight sarcasm XD so many times when he seemed to be pushing Kou x Aoba :]

Of course, there were a few things which I think could have been done better. Firstly Mizuki, the annoying cousin: I know it sounds harsh, but could he just have dropped of a mountain or something? Although looking back on it, he does sort of highlight how some characters like Azuma really develop throughout the show, but some people just don't change (except he did watch the last baseball match which redeemed him a tiny bit IMO)

And then there was lack of relationship development between Kou and Aoba for a while in the middle episodes. This wasn't too bad, because there were quite a few subtle, non verbal cues, but Akane just really annoyed me when she was initially introduced, because she seemed to be (sort of aggressively) moving into Kou's life :(

Also I think Senda could have improved a little more, not only in terms of his personality but also his baseball XD he was a good comic relied character though, despite being annoying at times

And mainly the art!! I know it was meant to be simplistic, and simple is great, but why did almost all of the characters have to look borderline ugly? Except Mishima lol, he looked great XD and Azuma in a baseball hat was just woah, but that could be influenced by the fact that I loved his personality as well :) and when he took off his cap and you could see his hair... *shudder* I mean, arghhh, *what was that annoying tuft of hair sticking out near the nape/bottom of all the guys necks even supposed to be*?!

And yeah, I kinda really wanted Azuma to find someone he fell in love with <\3 But eh that speech at the end about the importance of his male friends made me realise I didn't really mind if he didn't find someone (take me instead haha) XD

But all of these complaints are just really very minor things, and I think for enjoyment alone, this anime could make it 10/10 for me, but idek why, possibly because of the very minor things mentioned above and maybe a little because of the slight predictability and unrealistic aspects (eg Kou pitching for so long and never having to be replaced as a pitcher, the Wakaba doppelganger coincidence etc) I might give it a 9/9.5 instead :(

On a side note though, the music was spectacular! Not necessarily the OP/ED, although those really grew on me too, but the background music during the matches really helped build the tension and the music in the emotional scenes was incredibly moving!

(and this is the first time I've actually written such a long post on MAL but this might be a great way for me to get out all THE FEEEELLSSS after finishing such a great anime!!)

One of the best endings to an anime I've ever seen. I'm so glad Kou ended up with Aoba, that really was the only option for me. If Akane's character didn't show up, this anime would have been absolute perfect for me, but it's not big enough for me to rate this anything but a 10. Which is a surprise for me, I haven't rated anything a 10 since One Punch Man in 2015.

This truly was a series I will remember for a long time if not forever. I'm starting to realize sports genre has some of the greatest characters and storytelling in anime.

I'm gonna miss this. Maybe I will check out more of Adachi's work in the future. 10/10

SUPER LATE for this! but just want to set fire to this discussion to keep this anime alive because it needs to be well appreciated.

Marathoned it for 2 days, and honestly I could have finished the whole 50 episodes in one sitting it's just that girls need their beauty sleep from time to time, M'right? AHAHA!

What can I say? This anime is simple, yet very engaging... The ending was perfection!
It's been awhile for me to have this feeling of emptiness and longing after watching a good show.

My only regret is, why haven't I found or watched this anime sooner?! and After the bold and daring ending of the first episode I knew this is going to be a wild ride. cue in my giddy laughter

While Cross game is not one of the best anime when it comes to sports, the plays and the game though are excitingly enough for me to enjoy and pump up my adrenaline. However the "baseball" is just one third of the anime, what makes this anime stood out from the rest of sports genre are the relationships, mainly from the two protagonist and the other characters.

Well Romance is not really my cup of tea, simply because of how predictable romance stories are, only a few have really impressed and entertained me so far, and Cross game is one of them. From the looks of it, it is quite obvious that Kou and Aoba will end up together since they are the MC's but due to Adachi throwing a lot curveballs--- Akane, Azuma and Mizuki, I find myself contemplating many times who will end up with who, not until the very last episode.

Now It's quite fascinating that every love interest has its potential, The one that almost, really close to being my OTP is Azuma x Aoba.
These two are quite an interesting couple too if you look at it, their first meeting was rough around the edges, Azuma started off as an arrogant Guy to Aoba while Aoba, like how Azuma described her, is being an Ill natured woman. They have their own moments as well, but the one that got my attention and saw the potential is when she was hospitalized. But moreso what made me like this ship is because of Azuma's growth as an individual character. I might have to say that he is the real MVP in this anime! story wise. He's the one that pushed Kou x Aoba. Kind of pains me to see him broken when kou and aoba hugged, It just goes to show that his feeling is genuine and that he is more human than what we think.

Also, what lured me to continue watching this anime is Aoba, I guess I'm a sucker for female characters that are tomboyish, strong and talented. but for some reason the one that got me invested is the relationship she has with Kou and their strong chemistry. Both are great pitchers and in fact it's so amazingly scary that they are seemingly alike in all aspects, They understands each other very well to the point that they are already aware of their feelings towards each other, they just needed time to shatter the chain that linked them to their past and be honest with themselves.

But what I love most is that they don't need some cheesy lines or sweet act of gesture. Their subtle moments of Jealousy, Worries, the dialogues of fascination and praise towards each other in sports and as a person, All those are enough for us or for the other characters (Azuma, Aikishi, nakamishi, Aoba's sister) to believe that they are truly inlove with each other.

So no matter what kind of walls built to stop them or curveballs thrown in the end It will always be Kou x Aoba.
I remembered Akaishi mentioning the red string of fate between Akane and Kou and that moment we all thought that the girl appearing to be with Kou in the library is Akane but it was Aoba all along. Maybe Kou's red string of fate was tied to Aoba all this time. In the end we all know that Kou listened to his heart and he chose the girl that was right for him. he chose Aoba

However, one anime can't end and escape flaw-free, there a few points that could've been improved more, especially with the other characters, like Mizuki, He came out strong but ended up being a weak character that serve no purpose other than to like Aoba

And ofcourse I wanted to see more of the All Japan women's camp, We just have very little number of episodes for it and I wanted more. I want to see Aoba's side, her successful journey in baseball since she was the very reason why Kou got so inspired into playing baseball in the first place.

SUCH A LONG POSTTT
Overall, Its 8.5/10 Very very good
But since I enjoyed it I will rate this a 9/10 on MAL

Apologies, This is the longest post I've ever had in my life. HAHA!

Since the questions are very interesting... I'd like to quote this one

So ever since watching this anime, ive always wondered: did aoba already love kou when wakaba was still alive? In her childhood diaries, she always wrote that she hated kou. Doesnt that imply that she loved Kou even then?

A very late response,

To me, I think the relationship they had when they were young is kind of ambiguous. "Love" is a strong word for a kid, especially for Aoba. But she did like or even love (not romantically though, maybe not yet) Kou, I think he's always been special to her its just that she loves Wakaba more.

leslie7622 said:
What about Kou? Did Kou really love Wakaba romantically?

Hard to say since there isn't any direct confirmation If he did loved her romantically but In my opinion he did love her but not romantically, He loves her(and still do) the same way her Mom, dad and sister loved her however he didn't fell inlove with her, I think he liked her as a girl because how can you not? she is sweet, smart and pretty. and she's always stayed by his side.

leslie7622 said:
Or would he have ended up with Aoba even if Wakaba stayed alive?

Personally my answer is YES, Kou x Aoba would still have ended up with each other either way. Aoba have been a huge part of his life in baseball, He looks up to her and was inspired to become a pitcher all because of her. Even if you remove baseball out of the picture they still have this chemistry and bond that can only be shared by just the two of them, they have the same interest and are very alike, So eventually they would still have fallen for each other.

Wakaba wouldn't even bother telling Aoba that she wouldn't let her take him if she didn't see this possibility.

In short, Wakaba is the perfect girl but Aoba is the right girl.

One can argue that this is just a matter of preference but looking at the anime
Cross game is not inclined to Perfect couples. The love in the story is more likely about "when you fall in love it just happens" sort of thing.

The real intriguing question is when did Kou and Aoba fall inlove? I would think there isn't any specific time, it just naturally happens ^^^

BUT this doesn't really matter, Liked what we've learned in this Anime we must let the past go, what is more important is the present.
and the present tells us that kou loves "Tsukishima Aoba the most!" there you have it! Thank you Kou for summarizing that up.

Late response to this, but yes, Aoba always loved Kou, but she lied about it because of his and Wakaba's relationship.

Would Kou and Wakaba have ended up together? We don't know of course because she was so young when she died and their love was not that type of love yet. Of course they "loved" one another, but I am not sure that Kou was romantically in love with Wakaba, he and Aoba always had the more dynamic relationship and similar interests. I like to think that they wouldn't have ended up together, that the way the story with the other girl developed is what would have happened had she lived.

As for the lies, Aoba was the one who always lied, Kou knew this and lied to protect Aoba's feelings. What feelings? Probably that Aoba felt a bit guilty about Wakaba's death because she gained Kou because of it. This is why Aoba came up with the "throw a 160 KPH" requirement - it was her way to justify it to herself, and Kou spent the next 5 years trying to live up to it for her sake. That's way she broke down when he actually did it: she realized this.

This is why at the end she talks about how Kou had always seen through her lies. Even though she is happy that he did, it is still a little discomforting to find out that someone can so completely see through you. Hence the final monologue.

Pretty fitting and emotional finale with Seishuu going to Koushien and Aoba crying.

Great series overall, really enjoyed it. Lovely fusion of Baseball and Slice of Life. I really love the role Wakaba plays in the series and the central theme of overcoming loss is portrayed beautifully. Loved all the characters in the show, their interactions where a joy to watch, If anything, the only thing I wanted was more baseball, since I felt that was where the series really shined. For a sports show, I really wish there were more matches. That's why I think 50 episodes totally doesn't cut it, cause right not it doesn't even feel like I watched 50 episodes. Nonetheless, excellent series.

Good show....I don't particularly like sports show but it got me interested due to recommendations of love-drama and SoL. I don't think I like KouxAoba ship much. Aoba didn't wholly 'love' him and he cared about her but not particularly 'loved' her. Due to sudden interests of Azuma in Aoba and Akane in Kou, they suddenly started having romantic feelings for each other?

Anyway, sports part were good and characters were also developed and likable. 7/10

Looks like I'm not the only one who finished the series within a couple of days, damn it was stressful, sad, funny and intense from the first episode itself and Aoba stayed stubborn till the very end, expected a bit more from romance aspect, I think we all did, but given the ending, I was more than satisfied, finally Kou and Aoba were able to open up to each other and the confession was on the point with the stage set.

The plot was really slowly placed and a bit overdramatic, the addition of akane was kind of awkward, still I loved it anyway.

I think its unfair to watch a great work and not compliment it. Cross game is one of the best anime I've seen in terms of story and character developement. It's so fullfilling. Although I would have appreciated if there were a few more episodes. Well, that's a common feeling for every great anime: You want to watch more of it. Thanks to the Mitsuru-sensei and the anime production team and seiyuus behind the characters.

It was a perfect ending, they got to the Koushien and they are officially a couple now.The wedding happened, that's great.
Akaishi and Akane are a good couple too.
I'm a bit sad that we won't see the end of Wakaba's dream but she never saw it herself so I guess it's alright.

Though I have my own reservations against the ending but what a wonderful anime 'Cross game' was. Such genuinely warm characters and great friendships. Wakaba-Kou bond is what made me love this show. I expected Aoba to end up with Azuma as it was evident Mizuki would be snubbed, and Kou to remain single and Akane pairs up with Akaishi. My reason for being against Kou-Aoba is the kind of connect I had for Wakaba-Kou and I felt it wouldn't be right for them to be together given the cold attitude of Aoba towards Kou. Kou was never given his due by Aoba, a guy who yearns for his deceased friend even years after her demise, the warmth and affection he has for the family which is quite rare. Such a wonderful character like Kou deserved better is what I felt.

Azuma and Akaishi are other standout characters.

Fucking sucks I finished seeing this one May 31 and could only now comment, thanks MAL!!

Anyway, overall this series started strong, and built plain but fairly interesting characters, which made me get through the middle section that was more lacing and boring, to then getting in the later part of the series, that thankfully managed to catch up quite alot to really fulfilling conclusion, what a closure.
Couldnt have choosen better for my first baseball anime!

8.9/10 = 9

PS: Someone get me that OST pretty please...

Geez, my mind must have been fucked up by philosophy course. When I saw the V-sign scene, I thought to myself: isn't that a Gettier problem?
