The foul ball before strike three Azuma said should have hit dead center (presumably for another home run and the game ender). It didn't, so Azuma considered Kou the winner during that confrontation and took strike three.

My exact same thoughts, I found myself smiling quite a lot during that episode. I'm sad though that Kou doesn't win his wager with Aoba.

She was probably happy that she didn't have to treat Kou to a Napoletan (sp?).

Also, as some others mentioned, this show makes me smile, too. Cross game is just really easy to enjoy.

I kind of loved this episode. I didn't really see anything wrong with it. I laughed, got pulled into the game, and didn't doubt anything that happened.

Man, a single pitch, five seconds of slow motion, most intense moment in the entire show. I'm starting to get what people see in sports shows XD

I don't understand how the bet was lost. They lost the game by 1, right? Isn't 1 within 5 points?

The bet was about keeping the opposing team within five runs (5 points total), but they got 6 points, so Koh lost.

I want to see more of Azuma. The guy's a jerkface, but you can't deny his talent and his formidable presence on screen. Plus, watching him duke it out with Aoba is intense stuff, especially since she doesn't let him intimidate her.

Best episode yet!! Everything was great from beginning to end. The part with the farm coach and the third year, about the bandages on his head was hilarious and touching as well, the old man really is a good coach. Koh's reaction to the strike out was lol, I just wanna see that coach get pwnd!!! Urahara Out!!

Nice way to end the match.
Next episode seems to have an anime-original character showing up, probably senda's sister or something. Guessing the animators planning on showing off Aoba's skills.

what a great way to end a great match :), there's series is just so damn good. I was completely immersed in all 3 episodes of that game. They managed to make it so exciting. Was strange that Azuma couldn't swing, guess it was to show that he is actually threatened by Kou. Was glad to see the 12th graders helping them out and being more respectful. Bummer they lost in the end, would have been great to see the prefab team win :P

It was really a close fight. I didn't expect that the prefab team can evenly match up with the first string team.

Kou finally struck out Azuma after giving him a lot of free home runs.

And those 12th graders finally showed some backbone. The coach knows how to bring out a player's talent.

This series definitely puts a smile on my face, too. So enjoyable.

Great, great episode. The coach [for the "farm" team] is awesome. :) It was cool seeing how he pulled the team together to close the point gap... [even though it seems like Ko let the other team get ahead at the end by not focusing on pitching after he "beat" Azuma and let it get to his head.]

FYI, runs, not points. As a stickler to details, after Ko's final hit, he was running on the pitch, and the batter bunted. With both of these happening, it is impossible to throw a runner out at second, unless that runner was not actually running. And even if he wasn't stealing the base, it's pretty much impossible to turn a double play on a bunt unless it was bunted very hard directly at the pitcher, which it didn't seem like the case. But this is me being picky about the baseball accuracy of this anime. But with all things aside, this was a great episode! I loved it!

A fine finale to an overall decent three episode game. Still, the past three episodes have been the weakest in the series.

However, the one thing irritated me the most was the cheering fans, to have them cheer for the stronger team from beginning to end, for every Varsity batter was ridiculously absurd.

What a game! The coach and the manager manipulated the seniors so easily lmao! He really knows how to bring out the best in his team.

the coach was pretty funny

Kou hit for the cycle and pitched 7 innings in his debut OP. If he had just plunked/pitched around Azuma every time his ERA would have looked a lot better XD.

And hence the feel trip continue. Koh visiting Waka grave, touching moment.

So in the end, the miracle didn't happened... Judging by the end, he just let it go...
But he did one miracle, striking out Azuma. He even have been able to make him smile a little, that's quite something!

I loved when he saw the pitcher face and remembered Wakaba face when she was going for a direct. Just a funny and touching hint leading to the equality.

That sneaky coach... I really believed his story! xD

I think it would be more accurate to say that Azuma was so shocked that he fouled that third pitch without wanting to that he just didn't swing. I think it will still be a while until Kou can consistently strike him out without having Azuma give himself a handicap.

great episode though and Kou has learned a lot from that game, so I expect to see him grow because of it.

I had guessed Azuma had the same voice actor as Miyuki from Diamond no Ace. They are similar characters.
Best episode yet, really using the great characterization to add to the tension of the game. That old coach is quite good too

GG. That game lasted longer than I expected but it was a good one. Ko made a nice debut. I bet the coach is reevaluating his life decisions up until now lol. Or at least he would if he wasn't such a scoundrel.

The 3rd year senpais are a-holes but they're still endearing. Lovable bastards. I guess this will be their send-off? Let's forget about winning Koshien, I wonder how Ko will even get to the preliminaries at this rate.

Next episode looks fun. I like the balance between baseball and sol episodes.
