Oh shit, so the real criminal mastermind was hiding behind this guy?

Also, Kogami used to be a detective?
Things continue to get interesting!

Another great episode!
I really loved the part with Tomomi explaining Rousseau's theory. Also, that part where he blew fire with that lighter.
They've been building up his character over the past few episodes, but I feel like he was really able to shine here.

I don't change out my favorite characters very often, but I think he's definitely going on my list now. :)

I almost felt pity for Mido when he was on his deathbed and then I remembered he killed two people. It was pretty brutal seeing his arm get blown to bits though.

I had a feeling that it was Hibari/Kougami that Gino was talking about because Hibari talked about all that stuff about wanting to be a detective again and not just a hunting dog. There was also the part where Masaoka was warning Akane about understanding Hibari and how Hibari stared into the abyss/darkness for too long.

Dat tomato trap. But more importantly, the OST in this episode was awesome!

I can't see how one-armed Mido could escape from fire-breathing Masaoka and Ex-Inspector Kougami.
That's some really strong alcohol and some really interesting backstory.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

Gino was wondering the same thing :)

Also, not too surprising that Kogami was a detective. He seems to be the only one figuring things out

That was a nice ending to the episode. I thought it was weird that Shinya was calling Ginoza as Gino.. Maybe the revelation at the end of the episode was the reason why and maybe that is why Kogami is slightly brighter than Gino.. but, then again, Shuusei too called him Gino at the very first episode. Hmm.. Hope an episode is dedicated to the Enforcers' pasts..

That was an excellent conclusion to this mini-arc that begun last episode. I thought it was stupidly predictable that Kougami was previously an investigator, though, because I figured he was from the second episode.

The character themes discussed have so far been the highlight of the series. It doesn't just portray these guys as criminals, but it also attempts to gloss over what it was which clouded their psycho-passes. Remember, guys, this is what happens when you descend too far into otakudom.

Couldn't help but question the shot to the arm as the guy ran away, in E1 a similar shot was achieved which killed the person nearly instantly...

Trippy scene!

Those guns do some major damage! I don't like when the people explode! Too gross lol.

So Shinya was a cop which I thought he probably was originally after seeing the posters lol. Sad he got demoted after his crime coefficiant went up after that one case :(

Who is the mysterious white haired dude?

Makishima is the guy from the first episode? There was a white haired guy in the first few minutes of the first episode, and it kind of looks like him. At least there is a main storyline forming. I don't know what the group of people are planning, but I guess they'll cross paths a few times.

I guess I hadn't given it much thought before, but it surprised me to find that Kougami was an Inspector before. I expected the file to describe some gruesome crime that would startle Tsunemori and make her question just how great a guy he is after all.

Dang, do those guns do some damage! This anime can get pretty gory sometimes.

Great episode though. I'm kind of confused as to the villains' motives at this point, but I'm sure it's meant to be that way right now. hehe ★4/5

You'd know who he was talking to if you questioned him instead of killing him....

Since Akane apparently scored so highly on all those tests shouldn't she be smart? or useful in any way? or no literally anything about her job?

She's essentially nothing but a mouthpiece through which the writers can explain stuff.

I couldn't agree more about Akane. She's the stereotypical character that I really hate in any anime but seems like many anime have a character or two like that.

Although it's only the 5th episode and early to judge but I hope the show would do a better job in terms of character development and originality in character as it progresses. Based on what I've seen laid out as the bases for the main characters so far, I don't have much hope for these characters to really impress me with originality and development (hopefully my hunch is wrong). If that's the case I hope the story makes up for it.

That was a fun little acid trip that the hologram scene put us on.

I knew Kogami was ex-MWPSB and wouldn't be shocked to learn that Masaoka is a former cop as well. Maybe Masaoka is Gino's old partner and not Kogami because he never really outright said?

The avatars turning on the social outcast was some wickedly, psychological, dark stuff. After losing the arm, I'd be praying for them to use the Dominator on me.

Mysterious red eyes and white hair are still mysterious, so to be continued on that it looks like. I thought this would be the reveal too.

I also loved Akame's explanation of the internet to someone who doesn't get it. "It's just kind of there, and we use it!"

So, just watched the episode and realized how stupid the 'lethal eliminator' system is. If they could apprehend the guy they could or could not know who was behind the scene. But now he is dead. His brain isn't even in one piece. This is stupid.
Such systems would soon be changed by the policy makers in real world.
And the world is even highly inconsistent.

Episodes 4-5 gives us more insight into the Psycho-Pass world, specifically how easy it is to exploit some of the flaws of the Sybil system, but it does so in a way that disregards the characters in my opinion. What struck me was how easy someone could avoid all the detection, and how easy it must be for crime syndicates to simply setup a front-man to take the fall because the Enforcers would simply shoot the immediate suspect and ask questions later. The complicit adherence to some of these obvious flaws that even a 12 year old must be able to point out (I don't know, any 12 year old MAL'ers out there?) detracts from the characters' intellects, despite that they were able to solve the case in a semi-interesting way.

+1 , Exactly this.
I am now considering to drop this anime because of this huge overlook, which is an indicator of a poorly thought out story :(

I'd assume that is quite difficult to avoid detection, and it only looks easy because otherwise there would be no real case to solve and the show therefore boring. I hoped they'd explain how Mido managed to stay undetected when they figured out where he was living and where he used the net, but they missed that chance. Maybe in another episode.

It's probably a mix of back streets with less scanners, hacking, using other people as cover and simply staying indoors most of the time.

The system is obviously flawed from what we've seen (with crime victims getting a high crime coefficient due to the stress they've been put through, despite not showing any actual indicators of wanting to commit a crime (saying something related to it, grabbing a gun or whatever), or how actually commiting a crime can help you avoid being caught, as you may be more relaxed afterwards etc.), but people are trusting it.

Maybe they never thought about or simply dismissed putting even more scanners everywhere because that would mean admitting flaws in the system, and once they start, they might discover the above flaws too, and soon everything would fall apart. So best not start.. The system is in place and does "work" so no need to change anything from their perspective.

Even more likely than usual, given that if you think too hard about it it might affect your psycho-pass, and you might be marked a criminal despite wanting to improve the system and not actually *doing* anything anyway.

Ginoza pls.

I agree, that was pretty stupid of them to not arrest the guy for questions. Sure he had lost his arm, and I would personally want to end it fast so that he could die more peacefully (even tho he was horrible) but ye. Some questions would be helpful in the long run.

Finally I think I can say that I have a chance of enjoying this anime.
The past 4 episodes have been a bit, "do I like it?" or "don't I like it?" I was pretty torn about it, I don't mind the gore or the heavy themes, it was just... odd and confusing in a way I am unable to explain. XD

I have been really confused, but now things are finally starting to make sense and it's getting increasingly interesting. :)

This has been the best episode so far in my opinion.

I've read some "why didn't they capture the guy and then ask him who his boss was?"

IMO they thought it was only that guy, a psychopath (lol) who killed virtual communities leaders. Nothing else.

I expect more focus on characters in the next episodes :)

I like the Enforcers :3
It's funny hearing Shion the doctor speak bc I just finished watching Noragami and that's Bisha's voice lol X) they both are hot and blonde and look similar too haha

Also, WHY DIDN'T THAT NIGGUH KEEP RUNNING after he got the Akane and the Enforcers tripped up by the hologram? Like wtf? I was like why the hell are you still there? Are you dumb? LMAO. Shoulda kept running. SMH.

Mido was such a creepy guy. Not as creepy as the rapist in the first episode, but an unsettling kind of creepy. Just a bizarre guy all around.

This episode was a blast. Not because of the bomb, but because the time that SHinya fired that Dominator the "prey"'s arm got off.
Pretty sick hunting scene. And how the dude said "The hunting dogs arrived" Gave it a new meaning to what I meant there.

I thought that when Shinya noticed that there was something off with Spookie Boogie talking the day after the raid, the giveaway would be some kind of realization that there's a voice changer but the giveaway actually being that one time she called the MPSB the police was unexpected but clever. Pinpointing the exact culprit by assuming that he was a big fan of all three deceased users was very impressive too. Thinking about being in the criminal's shoes is very useful for the investigation but it doesn't fare well for their psychological health.

I loved the whole chase sequence especially Masuoka showing how alcohol works best against holograms and the otaku's arm getting blown off. It's ironic that the very guy who helped him follow his obsessive passion and put his beloved characters into his own hands was the one who used those characters to ridicule him and break his delusion.

Shinya being a high-class Inspector in the past explains why he's so adept in solving these kinds of cases, damn.

I like the description of the idol in this episode. As someone who was (is?) well known in some internet communities, it's easy for the hive mind to assign you labels and perceptions without having any say. It's doubly lonely when you are the leader and have to work around so many people's stubbornness.
