Yes. That is literally all they do. They only do the hand-drawn parts, after all. The CGI is done by another studio.

I was little worried about the anime adaptation as someone who think the LN is one of the best isekai's there but until episode 4 I am very satisfied, aside from the okayish CG the animations of said cg is dynamic and I seriously liked the monkey fight in episode 4 more than anything they showed until now!

also casting Aoi Yuki as Kumoko is maybe the best decision they did, she is doing gods work as Kumoko and I absolutely love it.

Do some research... Millepensee isn't the ones who did the cgi in berserk 2016 and aren't the one doing the cgi in this anime either

So they do none of the job? Might as well give it to another studio then. Nice one!

It is a common industry practice to outsource CGI work to specialized studios...

You are confused.
This is not exclusive to this studio. Most 2D studios don't make CG, another studio (usually focused in CG) is in charge of it.

Exmaple:
- Berserk 2016: 2D = Millepensee | CG = Studio Gemba
- Ajin (A full CG anime): CG = Polygon Pictures

I'm not fonfused. I just don't get the point of a studio taking on an almost fully CG anime when they don't do the CG themselves. Might as well give to a studio that would do it in 2D

If the anime has CG or not and which CG studio use it's not a decided by the 2D studio most of the time. Usually is an adaptation team (from the publishe if it's an adaptation of a novel) the one that decides the
main studio (and CG Studio if it's the case), director, producer, etc, then the director choose the rest of the staff.

The dungeon being CG is something that was most likely decided even before getting the main 2D studio. The first trailer from 2 years ago already had Kumoko and the dungeon in CG and the humans in 2D.

Quality really has gone downhill nowadays, if this is the CG, studio's are happy with. Hopefully they'll take a piece out of AoT S4's CG. That's rescpectable at least. This on the other hand? trash

First big battle for Kumoko, eh? Not just that. Its literally seeing Kumoko levelling up, and then evolved again. Holy shit! Wtf is this? Lmao. I am watching with my mouth opened. Poor Kumoko, must go through all of those dangers, and ended up against the whole monkeys familia. But, well, its worth enough. 5 levels up and succeeded to beat, and finally another evolution has been reached. So, yeah, not even the horde of supposed a smart monster like monkeys, could be taken down my little-not-so-little spider! However, Kumoko's journey at those bottom tier of dangerous dungeon still continued. Smh. Whatever. Keep your spirit up, Kumoko!

It is easier to get a big CG budget for the most popular anime series of our time, compared to a new entry, even if the LN has been relatively popular. They have to weigh costs with projected returns.

I think people often forget that everything cost money.
Like we have Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks that are giving often to just one movie budget big enough to adapt entire Spider's LN (Frozen 2: Budget - $150 million vs One anime season ~$2 million*), so it shouldn't be surprised that CGI in anime will never look on the same level like in western animations.

hey dude all I am saying is that the pacing of the story in the anime sucks to the core and I am sorry if I have " irritated" you by my "attitude" its just that I have read only the manga and from what I have read the manga nails the pacing and gives a feel of hopelessness during the war with the monkeys which the anime did not do. I just wish they would have taken at least 2 eps for this war

I agree with you about the pacing issues, in the anime for sure. Not defending the anime tbh, think it's easily the worst of the 3 versions of the story, but the "random ass people" aren't really what killed he pacing.
Honestly, to highlight the helplessness of this battle, maybe they cut away after the bagragratches show up, away to the aftermath of the Earth wyrm battle and use the next episode to highlight that second half of the battle. That way you have raised tension, and uncertainty.
If you're interested in getting the full story of Spider, I really do recommend the light novel. If you're not really a LN reader, that's totally fine too, but I'm on 5 out of 10 rn, and it is awesome

I AM not much of LN reader, mostly because there are too many LNs and most of them are not good, but I will certainly check it out.

Thank you for recommending it

Also she has all these magic skills and other skills and doesn't even try use them...."hey I got poison magic meh fuck it, lets forget about it"....huh you could at least try to use it what's the fucking harm and it might save your life!

Remember the magic trainning from last episode.
You need the "Magic Power Perception" and "Magic Power Operation" skills to use any Magic-type skill. And about why she hasn't tried to use magic again, that's a cut scene.
She actually has another Magic skill (Shadow Magic) that she also tried to use and failed.

damn maybe I should just read manga then.

The problem with the manga is that it was able to adapt everything in Kumo side because it dropped out Shun side entirely, but as a downside the manga pace is horribly slow. The manga has been out for almost 5 years and is barely touching the Post Labyrinth Arcs even when is skipping Shun side which by the momment Kumo gets out of the Labyrinth the information in Shun side is vital for the plot.
The manga is almost 100 chapters long while is barely starting the first Post Labyrinth Arc.

With her it's just like lucked into accidentally shooting a frog with web and it died before I did weeee! Lucked into the thing that was about to kill me get eaten by another thing! Lucked into the thing that was about to kill me didn't kill me cuz I leveled up right at that moment!

Actually this just happen in the Lower Stratum. Kumoko is able to level up so fast because she's killing monster above her tier.
Kumoko is still in a Low Tier evolution which means that her Max Level is 10. The Monkeys in other hand are at least Mid Tier which means that their levels can go from 1 to 20.
This actually becomes a problem in the next area because (small spoiler but I don't want to make mad the mods)

At this point I could give a shit about this spider and whatever fucking cave she is in.

She's inside the Great Elroe Labyrinth, an underwater dungeon that connects 2 continents (so it's pretty fucking big).

I have a brocon sister. I have a reincarnated MC with a yandere sister he needs to bang

For your security don't stick it in a crazy chick. Believe me that shit won't end fine.

while banging a former gyaru Earth dragon

Don't bang the dragon, you don't know what diseases she may have.

Just give me their story, that's how I feel now after seeing four episodes so far cut out the spider

At most in the next 2 episodes most likely the plot will start.

Dude thanks again for the response! I'm telling you it made sense when you give me that info that the anime just skips over!

The stuff about her levels versus the monkeys and low tier high tier stuff could be so easily explained in the anime with just minor dialogue.

There is whole lot of cgi going on in this episode but that doesn't affect the epicness of this fight, so it is still lit.

I dropped the LN because the levelling is too slow for me, so the anime is good paced enough, except the fact of what people had mentioned, the boring human parts (i read from somewhere that last episode human line are partly anime-originals).

So, conclusion is cgi is okay but more Kumoko please.

Next week, lava at a glance.

Meh. Easily the worst episode so far.

Completely ignoring the very mediocre CG animation along with modeling, my biggest pet peeve is that the whole episode along with the gist of the previous ones is nothing short of a "grindfest", rank up levels and get new skills. For christ sake, if I wanted to see someone build a character with a specific skilltree I would much rather reinstall Diablo III, Path of Exile or even the all time classic Diablo II and do my own grind runs.

Heck, even the out of context human storyline feels more substancial than the nonsensical grinding of Kumoko. And I'm pretty sure there will be source readers *itchin and moaning "but it's all to justify the next plotpoits or even arcs" and my easy rebutal as always will be, "it's not worthy to endure such useless passages of nothing actually happening in order to finally reach a point where something does actually happen"

Unfortunately this is how most LN adaptations go, they skip parts due to the time constraints.

About why Kumoko never explain the Tier/Ranking System, that's mostly because she never learns about this. Readers get this information thanks to some illustrations in the novel that act as Monster Bestiary.
Seahorse Bestiary Entry

This actually goes in hand with the multiple storylines structure of the novel. The characters never gets the full information but the reader can connecting the info from the multiple storylines (just like how magic works).

There are so many anime, manga, LNs, etc., in which nothing interesting or substantial ever happens, period, no matter how long you wait. So of course we try to hype up the series in which things happen.

Normally, I straight-up quit grindfests, but when I was initially reading the LN, I noticed some foreshadowing, so I figured it would probably go somewhere eventually.

Have to be honest, not a big fan of the fast/hectic pace of this episode. Would have liked it to linger on the various developments of the ape war a bit more. The LN and manga version of this fight felt much more like a hopeless war of attrition where you felt her resources running out every second.

I second this.
I'm really enjoying this show but I felt everything in this episode was rushed when there was plenty of opportunity for a lot more story development. I felt it was a shame that her classmates and their concurrent storyline was absent from this episode as well.

Apart from that, it's great fun. I love the ending music, little kimono kumoko gracefully singing her isekai lines then going nuts at the Karaoke again 🤣

In my opinion this episode was one of the biggest sins one could make on this adaptation exactly for the reason you pointed.
From the moment she falls on that hole on last episode to the end of the fight with the monkeys, both the LN and the manga do a much better job showing how it should have been a HUUUGE struggle. Aguarbly the biggest she ever has, not only cause she was still weak on an enviroment where everyone is insanelly stronger than everything she had seen before, but also cause she had two big fights against swarming mobs she would have no chance of winning without her gamer intelect and strategizing. All of that feeling of impending doom was lost on the adaptation.

They cut one of the fights, cut the moment where she felt most fear in her entire life and made her encounter with her first nemesis seem like nothing, cut the planning on her side and made everything seem too convenient. In short, they turned the better half of the first volume into a "meh'" episode. Kinda entertaining, but a shadow of what could've been.

I agree that skipping Alaba's was a big let down but I more or less expected that the anime was going to skip some fights.
The Labyrinth Arc easily can take up to 15 episodes if they wanted to adapt it completelly, Kumoko' story is literally a chain of fight after fight.
The only reason why the manga managed to fully adapt Kumo's side was because it dropped the S Chapters and the pace is really slow.

I actually agree with you. I think my disapointment is less about fights being skipped and more about what ended up being sacrificed.
To be honest I don't know how it could be done better, but I still feel like the soul of that section was lost in the adaptation.
It's just my opinion and it's completely subjective, but for me the Most important thing about her stay on the lower stratum would be the feeling that her life was on a thread(lol) held only by her determination and by overcoming her fear. I've seen more than just a couple of people saying that the monkey fight ended up feeling like dumb luck and I can't really disagree. And now that she's done with that part and I guess the opportunity of conveying her struggle there has been lost. :<

Man, did Kumoko pick a good spot to take a nap. I mean, it wasn't ideal since she was attacked by an army of monkeys in that spot, but the terrain advantage she gave herself was just immense.

That was the first real glaring issue I had with the CGI, those ugly ass monkeys. Still, enjoyable watching the spider level up

3/5 The CG is by far the largest draw-down for the series thus far.
The frames that are animated are glaringly different than the CG that's interwoven between them. As if entire models are CG'd for actual seconds consecutively. Then good animation resumes.

It's Amazing, also i think it's very underappreciated i mean i suppose people don't think that i would be great cause of the whole spider thing BUT YOUR WRONG its one of my favourite anime out there and I'm really begging for a season 2 which i don't often feel that way when there hasn't been any response on one but for this one im literally going to lose it if they say theres no season 2.
