Fushi is a situation where he couldn't get away from the Hayase but things are getting different for Fushi in the episode.

Hayase probably singlehandedly ruined this show, at least for me, personally. I can't really understand the intent of keeping such a character relevant and as a persistent problem and obstacle when I see little to no substance behind her deluded motivations and obsessions with Fushi (whom isn't doing well as a character, anyways, either). At this point, this whore only serves as trigger bait and not much else. The defense for her in connection to her tribe's own mentality and beliefs doesn't suffice...like back during March's segment, she and her tribe weren't really believing in the Oniguma legend, anyways....they just be feeding babies to this entity just cause they like sacrifices, I'd guess.
Also, how is everyone just simply ok with her authority, when it's so clear how god damn nuked in the head she is? Is everyone else just that stupid, too? The overall irrationality of the cast in this series continue to baffle me, but damn this week is just a whole new low.

This anime’s slide into mediocrity is one of the most disappointing things that has happened this anime year. So many characters were off-model this episode and this arc in general has been very disappointing. The kids never became very likeable to me and Fushi constantly getting knocked out is ridiculous. It’s a shame, because I thought this could have been great for a while there.

Immortal doesn't mean invincible. Metamorphosis ability doesn't work without consciousness too. It's the same to "countermeasure against Ajin". He should earn some tolerance against poison.

Does Tonari have resistance to poison?
In episode 16 when the children passed out from the sleep drug, Tonari was the only one to wake up very quickly.

I feel like this episode had some quality issue over their animation and art, oh well....

Hayase talked high there, but successfully convinced the whole Jananda residents into believing her twisted words about Fushi. Well, considering the people of Jananda and their own intentions, ofc everything turned to be well at Hayase's hands. However, its not for Tonari, she still had some determination left to at least helping the immortal dude for the final moment. Gladly its works!

The sequence with Hayase at those bed mostly unbeliavable to my eyes. That woman really went some crazy shit move toward the immortal dude. Though, after then, i thought that Fushi will be able to get the upper hand from Hayase. Guess i am just being stupid trusting everything to Fushi. In the end, the immortal dude back to be a captive, and Tonari back trying her ass saving Fushi, again.

Hopefully the unexpected and so-called zombie outbreak at Jananda island can bring a better sequences and portray toward Fushi's character. Because this episode, honestly feels very shallow and underwhelming than before. Lets see....

When Hayase disrobed and got into bed with Fushi ...what is she ultimately planning? Is she hoping to create immortal offspring with him?

Also, I thought Fushi was on the ship so I was kinda confused why Tonari was trying to go back to the island? (Unless Hayase was really going to stay on Janande?)

Can Fushi get aroused? Can he even produce sperm to begin with? Wow, the things this show makes you wonder...

Also, what's worse than having Hayase trying to rape our MC? Having a badly drawn Hayase trying to rape our MC. God was the art awful this episode.

Personally, this series' writing quality was never above average but man has it lost its course with this current arc. Fushi has a bear form that never uses when it can be actually useful; Tonari is Jananda's ruler yet no one tried to kill her when she was announcing the people who would go to the ship; Fushi suddenly being able to leave "empty bodies" behind to confuse enemies; Hayase wanting to make MC impregnate her as soon as possible yet she sent him to a hole the needed time for Tonari to return to the island and release him; Tonari's owl surviving at the end because "why not?" lol; etc.

If Hayase was trying to make an immortal kid, I don't think it's possible. The clothes are part of Fushi's body, I'm not sure if there's anything under them. xD

I don't understand Hayase's motivation or obsession, she pretends to care about Fushi and wants everyone in the island to revere him and preaches him to be some kind of salvation sent by God. Yet, she wants to throw him underground into some cell he can't climb out of.

I hope Tonari can help Fushi.

He can't use the bear form in the pier because he can accidentally destroy it while the people are embarking, the same in the house, and overall he is too clumsy in that form; I guess people didn't attack her because they hoped that she chose them, and then when she said that only 7 years old kids because they can still choose their destiny, most people (especially ones with children) agreed that's better than nobody leaving, hence why they were silent; he realized he could do that time ago, remember that part with the crabby? he even raised the possibility of do it with Gugu's body but that would only create a "hollow shell", this is just the first time he used it strategically; the last two ones were indeed nonsensical, I can forgive the owl because it's not a big deal, but Hayase giving time is just stupid, I hope she has a reason for that.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree this series' writing and direction has going down in this arc, but it still has some consistency; the reasons behind some of the events are still there, implied.

Oh my god! That foreshadowing about Tonari!! I can't believe I'd missed that in the manga.

Finally we have reached the part that makes me hate Hayase. She is like this extremely abusive person who acts like a saint around others, and then turns into a monster when no one is around. Which is bad enough. But, I hate her because of what she tries to do to Fushi when he's unconscious.

The episode ended in such a hopeful way, which means you just know something is about to go wrong.

This adaptation is almost as good as the manga, and in some scenes, it's as good as the manga. You can just tell the director understands the story very well, and knows exactly how to tell it. I wish another anime that's currently airing also had a good director like this anime. lol

I think this comment airs my grievances with this episode and this arc far better than anything else I could add to the discussion. Beyond the first episode and the endings of both March and Gugu's arcs, this show has never truly impressed me, but I never expected it to fall apart in the way it has in this disaster of an arc.

To think, none of this would have happened if Fushi had just used his bear form to break Pioran out of the prison (as he himself admitted he could do last episode) rather than competing in this tournament and losing to Hayase. Or if Hayase hadn't been needlessly brought back into the show (or still alive after she was swatted by the bear to begin with).

Actually, there is one thing I can say: while Tonari's idea to bring the kids off the island and onto the mainland sounds nice, it's just some selfish morality to make her feel better as it won't help the kids at all. In this situation, the kids will be without their parents on the mainland, so they'll basically be orphans, plus they'll be too young to work. The kids arguably have less of a future in this scenario than if they were to just stay on the island. But hey, at least Tonari gets to feel better about herself am I right?

Too bad this series has gone downhill since Gugu's demise. Since then it's become disappointing and obnoxious. Hayase has developed a serious case of plot armor, and become an annoying character that brings the series down with her instead of being a well written antagonist. Tonari was too insufferable and unlikeable from the start I just don't like her character, though I understand she had a sad beginning. With 3 episodes left I am not sure if it can turn things around. I don't comment much on seasonal anime, but I had high hopes for this one.

Oh wow. I totally forgot about the scene with Fushi replicating the crab's body a few episodes ago. Guess I can't discuss that point then... though him doing the somewhat opposite method (making a smaller body for him to transfer his "soul" into) still took me by surprise.

As for the previous points, I don't know... the island's population was described to be ruthless and violent to the point of killing the current ruler as soon as he/she takes charge yet they calmly waited for Tonari to explain herself and didn't even try to do anything after she basically crushed the dreams of freedom of many people. It's just weird.
Fushi being "clumsy" in his bear form sounds kinda forced too. Especially since he said he could easily release Pyoran from prison with that form a couple episodes ago. Honestly, Fushi could have just used the bear form; release Pyoran; take Tonari and her group of irrelevant friends and leave the island the same way that Stone Bear Nokker appeared.

Um....yeah....what....Hayase trying to "mate" with Fushi...my mind can't fully wrap around the logistics of how that works... I mean...when Fushi was thrown down into that hole towards the end he appears to have "broken apart" at the bottom?

So if Hayase wasn't interrupted and gone through with it....
..
...
....
......
Yep nope....I'll just stop...
But yeah seriously, he needs to come up with some way to guard against that "sleeping drug"...It's almost like a running gag since the beginning, except not as funny.

not going to lie i got hard watching that hayase scene, what a nice body

the episode was boring though, felt like nothing provoking happened at all. A caused B and B caused C and C caused D, it lacked emotional impact and twist. I guess that they knew it anyways, it is a bridge episode so the art was extremely inconsistent. Tonari had like 10 facial structures throughout the episode lmao

Murdering a child was already bad enough, so when you add rape to the list, redemption for Hayase sounds like a joke.

Not at all. First off, let's get this straight. Murdering is a harsh word when March was the one who jumped in the arrow. I'd rather call it it an unfortunate accident or a brave sacrifice 😔 also not rape, but attempted rape, sexual assault at best.

Redemption should be possible or at least atonement by acknowledging the wrong deeds, making sure that they won't happen again and possibly making up with something extraordinary. I'm not opposed to a approach that would try to reinvent her as a companion of Fushi.

Are you Hayase's defense attorney?

The author just went full dumb with Tonari's logic about picking only the kids, what a stupid decision, yeah lets pick a bunch of little kids including a baby, put in a ship and leave them in whatever place it will be, i bet they will be totally fine right? ffs at least take the parents together to raise their kids instead of doing that shit, i don't know if Tonari is just stupid or a actual bad person.

i know this anime is kinda dark with all of the death in it but i was not expecting it to get dark enough to include attempted r/pe. not that that is a bad thing! i was just surprised. my guess is that the evil lady is trying to have sex with him to see if their children would also become immortal

also i realized now looking back that Tonari telling Fushi that starfish had gained a bunch of weight instead of telling him useful information was set up so the audience would already know who starfish was and also showed her personality really well. like damn this anime has good setup and payoff

holy CRAP this show took a major nosedive. I don't think I've ever witnessed an anime that dropped this hard in quality so FAST.

The writing and its characters has been absolute shit since the gugu arc ended.

Gugu arc was super goated, everything that happened before that was cool, but this arc.. man it's bad.

not only did the writing drop from like a solid 8 to a 5 or a 6 at best, but the animation also completely collapsed. I praised the anime for its consistency in production for the first like idk 12 episodes? Everything up to the gugu arc was super crisp, now you can just feel the collapsed dead schedule.

Idk man I don't see it picking back up again. Maybe in the next arc with new characters but this arc is just bad and nothing will change that

Hayase is one of the most vile characters to ever darken the anime world and Fushi should've killed her when he had the chance. I get that he thinks killing is wrong but it would've done the world a favor.

It's sad to see that the animation is dropping due to budget but to be honest, the plot is so good that I don't even care that much.
