Haha, March is so adorable in this show. I also like how this episode expands more beyond just the frozen lands and got to see some of the forest.

Good to also see Parona makin gan appearance. Looks like we got more characters introduced now and March's personality is exactly how I had imagined in this series. Very entertaining.

The OP is out, and WOW the many spoilers in there, though we'll get to them very soon...and I'd have to say that they did a good job masking it as spoiler-free as possible. Another instrumental ED, and this fits in line with the OST for this show.

The moment that the people of Yanome entered the small tribal village Ninannah, and the lead support March being chosen by the leader Hayase as an offering to the great god that is Oniguma for the traditional sacrificial ritual, I legit got goosebumps with the nightmares surrounding the chosen children.

It's thanks to Parona that saved March's life at the very least, and finding Fushi at a lake is a godsend for her while throwing the usual children's tantrum, unknowingly and hilariously feeding him fruit like a dog wolf.

AR-II-GA-TO-U! Like a (kid) mother March is to Fushi.

This OP is awful, it's basically an AMV with so many impactful spoilers, feels like they put all resources on Hikaru Utada song... awful

I'm glad that Fushi and March met. Both of them are kinda lonely. Now, they have a relationship (looks like an owner and puppy though). March's attitude like mom is cute.

Also, OP is so good. There are many spoilers though. Utada's song matches that. ED quality was great too. It was so beautiful. That movie is very NHK quality such as their long-running TV series.

The OP is visually good and the song is catchy, but they didn’t really have to put literally all the events that will happen from the manga. Of course anime onlies won’t understand most of them, but it sure gives away A LOT, like almost everything. Yeah I feel like this could be totally avoided and I don’t like how it was handled.

Anyways, great episode once again. March is cute asf

Why do manga readers always speak for anime onlys? I like the opening visuals. They make you excited for what's coming without spoiling pretty much nothing. There are so many images and no context, shouldn't be a problem unless you pause and start digging, but that would be on you.

It's not only because spoilers, there's no original content, it's basically a bunch of frames from the next episodes, there's not effort on that. Personally, i prefer that opening give us original content and visual identity, which that opening doesn't seem to give us, but if you like its ok

copy paste lmao
to be honest I can agree and disagree with you
at the start its a lot without context but as the series progresses and you see the character you already know what happens since the op spoiled it in advance. tbh I think its good manga readers are doing their best to hide spoilers from anime only. usually manga readers spoil it so considering their not its really nice..

ED is made by the same guy who helped create the OSTs of Final Fantasy X and predominantly XIII as well. Seems like Utada Hikaru always gets that Square Enix connections even through Anime.

Lol, no need to type it again.

I can see that, but as I said, it can also create aniticpation and an aha moment while watching. Personally, I also don't think I will be able to remember much from the opening a few weeks down the line(provided I don't rewatch it too often) there was so much to take in, in such a short time at that. Furthermore, there obviously gotta be more to the story. I mean, if single images could diminish the enjoyment or impact significantly, then it can't be that good of a series. At least I haven't watched anything where I thought "I shouldn't have watched the opening"

Utada Hikaru ate that OP up omggg. My goat fr. March and Fushi’s interactions were so damn adorable. Brain base doing a really good job with pacing and bringing these early chapters to life. Love the OST as well.

March was hella cute, but the ugly truth always rears it's head with uncivillised people generally sacrificing others for something that happens by coincidence

A new episode at a new place if I must say. March is really cute. Children chosen as sacrificial lambs. That was horrifying. Thanks to Parona, March is safe at the end there. OP is pretty good imo. Good episode.

Predictability has very less to do with the experience. That is how many shows can be watched more than once, but the amazement only rises.

I don't read the manga and I think opening sequence is showing too much. And Utada Hikaru is in her safe zone in this song, one could think it's her signature, while one could say she's repetitive.

This episode is quite a lightheart and give me a positive emotion, though I've to prepare myself when negative emotion comes, which I'm sure it'll be much bigger than positive emotion.

March was so adorable.
I really hate that sacrifice belief. I know it is their tradition but I still hate it. If you want you to sacrifice someone to your damn god just sacrifice yourself not a little innocent child who wants to grow up.

Solid episode, but I feel like there were a few things that didn't work in it that could be improved.

For one, did it feel like the show was telling rather than showing a lot of its theming, especially during the beginning parts with March's introduction, to anyone else? I get that March's character is meant to not have much of a filter and says what's on her mind, but it felt like the anime was trying to fill in the gaps where it could've let the animation breathe and explain it wordlessly.

For two, as much as I love Utada Hikaru's work, both the song and the animation content felt very unfitting for the show overall. Not only was the actual animation just stills and scenes from the show copied and pasted in (a decision I attribute to limited resources due to the COVID delay), but the song didn't really have the vibe I was expecting for this type of show - felt very modern and transient, rather than portentous and melancholic, which would have fit the show's atmosphere a bit better. The ED is great, and a good example of what I'm talking about with the shot composition and song construction fitting the show.

For three, is the animation and pacing throwing anyone else off a bit? Again, resource management and delays, and the vivid detail on the gore and dirtier sequences helps a lot with the framing, but it felt like March and some of the side characters came from a bog-standard seasonal show, and the goofier tone of some of the scenes didn't contrast hard enough with the emotional gravitas the serious scenes had.

Starting to have a few question marks for this adaptation, but it's still very strong in its bones, and episode 3 should help rectify some of my worries.

Great episode again.

Really felt bad for March when she was selected as a sacrifice and started complaining that she wanted to grow up. :(

How do refer to our protagonist? The thing? Anyway, I really liked the little dynamic that was forming between them. I was curious if March would ever teach it how to eat in a more human way given it's current appearance and form. She did try but stopped after it didn't listen to her.

Next episode should be interesting, I'm curious to see how it will react after March is taken away according to that PV.

Didn't like the OP song at all but it's just not my thing. I felt a similar way for the 2nd OP of Erin where the song fits, but just isn't my style to enjoy. The actual episode was fine. Doesn't have that instant impact like the first episode which was one of the best anime premieres out there, but it still has a very interesting and subtle storyline happening that carries over to the next episode as well. Brains' Base have definitely been paying respect to the pacing of the material so far which is good to see given how many hyped up adaptations recently have underwhelmed compared to their expectations due to bad pacing.

It’s still looking good. This episode was about setting up the first real arc and it has a lot of potential. “It” learning about being human from a young girl that is being hunted down to be sacrificed to a giant bear deity. A lot of potential for emotional moments, action, and character development.

It's not about how something will end, it's about how it's done, that's how humanistic shows can be built, the focus is on the character relationships and not on the main conflict of the story itself. So when someone here talks about predictability, I usually ignore it.

It was a decent episode, but nothing particularly impressive or special for me. At least it seems that the staff are being very respectful of the source material. The real OP visuals were quite impressive, but I liked the song more than the latter.
The context of the episode itself didn't impact me whatsoever, as it felt like something I've seen before countless times. Hell I even compared the meeting of March and Fushi to Dororo and Hyakkimaru's interactions from latter's namesake series. The humor in this show I found quite jarring at times and it ruins the feeling of seriousness that would've otherwise be quite consistent, and I feel like it's trying too hard to get us attached to the characters, instead of allowing natural progression in a show that honestly needs such.

I don't wanna look like I'm hating; it's just that this series just fails to connect with me, and having read the manga myself a little while back, I'm too well aware of whatever complications are coming.

This is probably gonna become an emotional or sad story with probably lots of characters dying. I liked both the opening and the ending sequences though I wasn't paying enough attention to tell if they had spoilers or not. Either way, let's see where the adventures of nameless wolf boy lead.

The animation of the boy's revival was god tier quality! This episode actually featured some of my favourite moments from the manga, like March & the boy's interactions and when she decides she's going to pretend to be his mother. I absolutely love bonds this kind of bond, where it's deeper than friendship but something more emotive than family.

From the OP I'm a little bit concerned that this is gonna be very rushed because I spotted characters that appear WAAAAAY later in the manga. I really hope they don't rush this cause they'll only be ruining a fantastic story
