Future GPX Cyber Formula (https://myanimelist.net/anime/1391) great show about racing. the car designs are done by Kawamori Shouji, so yeah they look pretty nice. Also another one, Dragon's Heaven (https://myanimelist.net/anime/3135) it has a really good art. |

I would be very surprised if there was someone else who has seen D.I.C.E.. I know there are, because it has a few thousand members according to the entry, but that's so very low it's practically nothing. For comparison, it's ranked twice as low as the next 2 lowest series on my list, Kuutei Dragons (~30,000) and Houkago no Pleiades (~31,000), which have almost 8 times as many members. But it's less of a hidden gem then just an old mecha show I remember watching as a kid that just isn't well-known. |

Here are some relatively unknown shows on my list that I really liked: https://myanimelist.net/anime/8666/Mazinkaiser_SKL 10K members, if you like mecha fights or metal music you need to watch this. https://myanimelist.net/anime/773/Tenamonya_Voyagers 3.6K members, really fun space adventure comedy with some top Shinbou directing, unfortunately the ending never got made but it's still a blast. https://myanimelist.net/anime/31370/Tonkatsu_DJ_Agetarou 12K members, I thought this was know but apparently not too much. Incredible short anime about DJing and the surrounding culture, it's structure like a sport anime and the soundtrack is bangers. https://myanimelist.net/anime/34332/Hulaing_Babies 3.4K members, really fun and happy short anime about girls hulaing. The aesthetic is really what sets this show apart so give one ep a shot and if you don't like how it looks give up. It also has a really cool ED story that changes every episode and the ending is super wholesome. https://myanimelist.net/anime/34549/Ryuu_no_Haisha 36K members, not really niche but I love this show and still feel like it's criminally underrated so fuck it. Short anime in general always get shafted, unless you're Luluco. |

Kyougoku Natsuhiko: Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari (Requiem from the Darkness) PLOT: Tired of writing riddles for children, Yamaoka Momosuke plans on gathering spooky and gruesome stories and publishing them in an anthology called Hyakumonogatari ("One Hundred Tales"). While researching these old myths and legends he comes across a mysterious trio who call themselves the Ongyou. They are detectives who are investigating the legends to reveal their truths...and bring those in the wrong to justice. Each time Momosuke meets the Ongyou he must face horrible truths and battle with his morals, but he's seeing things he shouldn't be seeing... REVIEW: It wasn't necessarily bad, just boring and slow. It was also low quality due to me watching it on gogoanime, so that may have contributed to my boredom. It is also box screen, as it was made in 2003. A modern day adaptation would be pretty nice LINK: https://myanimelist.net/anime/279/Kyougoku_Natsuhiko__Kousetsu_Hyaku_Monogatari |

Can I just sit back and appreciate that this list tries putting Monogatari at tier 3, below shows with half or even less than half of its viewerbase? Christ, man. Putting a show with one million+ members on MAL lower than shows with less than 250k just seems like it defies common sense. Hell, its member count is higher than some shows in tier one like Deadman Wonderland, if we're discounting shows like Tokyo Mew Mew! that were probably put on their because of their 4kids Dub, yet they're setting it beside shit like Kore wa Zombie that has around/less than 50% of its members. Like, even when Kore wa was airing, it wasn't as popular as Monogatari, god forbid you can find people who even know about it these days. You can find Monogatari fans everywhere you look for anime, and in no small number. It's gotten a near-full adaptation and several high budget movies and it's being put alongside a bunch of series that are lucky to even get a second season in terms of obscurity. Same with Jojo being in that tier. Like, why. Jojo is so ubiquitous that you can commonly find it in places where anime isn't even relevant, i.e. YouTube videos about fucking historical strategy games, twitch streamers that specifically do not want to talk about anime and mostly play casual games, the list goes on. I'd love to see shows like Zero no Tsukaima get that level of acclaim, but apparently they're at the same tier of recognition? I mean, the list itself isn't horrible or anything and I'm not bitching at you for posting it. I'm just...no. No, Monogatari and Jojo should be tier 2 at the minimum, tier 1 at the least. Both of these shows are ridiculously prominent and talked about, especially Jojo but Monogatari isn't super far behind it. You can tell someone who's a fan of both of those series/people who are a fan of these series put this together because there's this weird fetish for trying to present them as more underground and niche than they could ever had upheld at any point. I imagine someone saying "Hm, yes, I only watch obscure anime like the Monogatari series and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" and I just wince. ---------------- Anyway, I'm just going to go with what I saw someone post on page one. I'll give you 3 hidden gems: Anne Happy - Underrated cute/comedy slice of life. Rewatched it like 4 times. Try it of you want something original, funny and cute :D Momokuri - Underrated romance, main couple is already established so no pointless drama and just full adorable moments between them <3 Kase-san - One of the best shoujo ai you can find. It's just an OVA of 1 hour but is filled with wholesome scenes about this pair. Ending was beautiful too <3 |

So, I enjoy strange anime, but haven't watched that much. Here's a few of them (from best to worst): The TV Show Omoide Poroporo (pretty obscure for a Studio Ghibli film) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Parallel Works (I liked this more than the sequel) Jikkyou Chuukei Futon no Naka kara Detakunai Puparia Odd Taxi AIRING (pretty good start and few members) Fushigi Dagashiya: Zenitendou AIRING Kanashimi no Belladonna Already recommended here, but couldn't bring myself to leave this one out Tenrankai no E Ginga no Uo Ursa Minor Blue Kawaki wo Ameku Hollowness Otogi Totsukuni no Shoujo Full adaptation announced. COMEDY GOLD and 5 seasons... please don't miss this one Digital Juice Tooi Sekai Universe Kyoufu Densetsu Kaiki! Frankenstein Jack to Mame no Ki (OVA) Deva Zan Korekuraide Utau Sekiranun Graffiti Backkom Few seasons, speciales and a movie... too childish to me, but used to air in Argentina when I was a kid Pink Mizu Dorobou Ame Dorobou Another one by Akira Toriyama Kyoto Animation: Hana-hen 24H Don't miss this one Mogura no Adventure Earliest surviving anime broadcast Turning Girls Produce entirely by the female staff of studio trigger Okashina Hotel Tuzki: Love Assassin Angel (Special) Usakame Cello Hiki no Gauche Trigger-chan Itsudatte My Santa! Actually, it's many hidden gems in one, which is even more dope!I'd like to hear of another person that has at least heard about Robot Carnival, let alone see it. Or about Gosenzo-sama. As for my contribution for this thread: I very recently watched Urotsukidouji, which is, from what I've seen, the catalyst of tentacle porn. Don't let that discourage you though, it's a 3 episode OVA (~45 minutes each) with incredible 80s animation, a legitimately engaging plot for all its gore and sex scenes, and has some End of Evangelion vibes. Also most definitely inspired by Devilman in some aspects. A very fun watch. |

Well, you didn't say a good rare anime. https://myanimelist.net/anime/29301/ This OVA is the perfect example of a show trying way too hard to be dramatic, when it can barely get you invested in its characters. It's not that bad, but I wish they didn't try to make you cry so fervently. |

Thanks for such a nice thread @QuiteAshraf I see i'm condemned to never finish my backlog >< I'll only mention 2 "rare" anime. The first one you can't find it through the search box, although this anime is registered in the MAL database. It's from 2009 and it has 1971 users at this moment. The anime is called TO, i'm not giving the link, have fun trying to find it. The anime itself it's not bad but it's not amazing either. The 2nd is from 1972 and it has 164 users. It was tv broadcasted on some European countries around 20 years ago. I've searched this in the internet but to no avail. It's like Doraemon but much better. https://myanimelist.net/anime/5618/Dokonjou_Gaeru |
