Subaru may have cleared the first trial but problem looks more complicated with Elsa's return. Honestly, I'm not surprised that Garfiel isn't favored with Subaru's actions.
What's important though is that Subaru is fighting not for himself but for the sake of someone he cares for. Cool to see some Frederica in action especially with her transformation. Elsa hasn't changed much and isn't a pushover.
Damn, Perta and everyone else probably died there, and now Subaru was saved...
I feel like Subaru will die soon though, there is no way he'll accept this kind of result.
Can't wait for what Beato has to say to Subaru at this point though
And damn that 3rd person view from Subaru's eyes when the ceiling collapsed and all was crazy...
Welp to be fair he never did get it right on the second run anytime before this but I was real sad when his pet dragon died yeeting him though the window.
I find it interesting that Beatrice saved-he got lucky and really wanted to die but now he is in the library. kind of wonder what Beatrice is going to say to him next episode.
Subaru holding petra’s arm after waking up was something that gave me chills when I originally read volume 11 and seeing it animated was even worse.
White fox as usual did a great job with the adaptation and I can’t really think of anything that was cut out today, then again it has been a long time since I read this originally.
Next episode is gonna have one of my fave scenes of volume 11 with Subaru learning about the gospel. Hyped.
We’re never getting the OP and ED in the same ep are we?
Anyway, I can't wait to see what question Beatrice is going to ask Subaru ("Tell Beatrice that Roswaal said to ask the question"). Maybe it's going to have something to do with return by death. It seems Roswaal is aware of Subaru's power, given as he said "this time?" in this episode and had faith that Subaru could beat the witch cultists in the last episode. Can't wait to see how this plays out!
By the way, this really bugged me - why the heck does Elsa call Subaru a shut-in (hikikomori)? He hasn't really shown hikikomori behaviour in this world, could she know about his past?
Here I thought Frederica's teeth was just for show, or done that way. But no, quite surprised me. Along being awesome at the same time. Cannot wait for next week's episode.
Looks like the situation is getting harder and harder for Barusu....also that last minute intervention. Can't wait to see what is Beatrice planning for saving him in that moment. Things are getting really interesing 0_0
Ushiromiya Battler, right now, on this island, no one exists except for you. You're the only one alive in this island. However I'm here right now, and i'm about to kill you. Who... am I?
One more episode of Re:Zero and all I am thinking of is...
Where were you Beatrice? Why so late?...
Really sad to see Petra on this way..
Interesting to see whats she going to say Subaru now...

Pace wise how much is this cour going to adapt up to vol 13? maybe?
As for the rest of this, damn it did not disappoint.
I like we saw Frederica's beast form and the actions scenes were solidly done too and that ending man i knew what was coming but it was still so brutal.
So beako saves him at the end. Lets hope this is not the end of ram, fredrica or petra. I doubt it will be since twins do seem to be very relevant to the overall show.
Garfiel definitely didn't have a good relationship with Frederica, everytime he heard her name, he always try to avoid the subject, maybe something happen in the past.
Even though Subaru already arrive at the mansion two days early, Elsa already there.
What needs Subaru to know to prevent this is when she arrive and who is hiring elsa ?
Elsa mentions someone name, it means she has partner to work with.
And there you go, Beatrice with her unpredictable behaviour at the end of episode.
I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that the blue haired mabeast girl from s1 that dissappeared is the one behind the mabeasts in this episode. She is shown right before Elsa in the OP after all. I think Elsa called her Maylie.
From the moment Petra said "Oh" we all knew what was gonna happen...

Fredrica's got a nice beast form.
I doubt it will be too, but my concern is that eventually there is going to be a time where Subaru dies but doesn't go back far enough and whatever characters died stay dead. Based on the writing of the show at least, I could totally see that happening. However, if they were to do it I think they'd give more of a tribute to them and make it more emotional than what happened at the end of this episode, so I at least think we're in the clear for now.
Woah is Ram gonna remember the other timelines? That would be so dope.
Frederica's transformation was great, it reminded me of beast/dragon transformation from Fire Emblem.
Looks like suspecting Frederica was a mistake and seems like someone else is behind this, I wonder who.
Damn that was cruel, Petra's dead, Frederica and Ram too most likely but woah Beatrice saves Subaru. I totally thought he was gonna die and return. Let's see what happens next.
Well Subaru's suffering starts once again. But I am sad Emilia didn't get much screen time. She is so strong and I am sure she could defeat the mabeasts with ease while Puck can defeat Elsa (since it is morning) but of course author didn't include Emilia here :(

she isn't calling subaru a hikkikomori, she was saying she was asked to kill 2 maids (frederica and petra) and a hikkikomori (beatrice) before subaru gets back

Yeah we got that subaru's ability to start again isn't so convenient after all considering the state rem is in now. I can see author killing some characters in the future.
DAMN this episode took the suffering to NEW LEVELS.
While Subaru fared Echidna's first of 3 trials succeedingly well, not so much for Emilia whose suffering only continues to trend upward in failure. Not surprised that Garfiel will retaliate against ONLY having Emilia prove her worthiness (even loli hag Ryuzu) based on Roswaal's suggestion (since it is his land).
The chances of Subaru getting out alive ALONE, that's not gonna do any favours, but Ram will do as a support, with his "Return by Death" precognition for alternate plans to return to Roswaal's mansion in the earliest as possible to avoid catastrophe in the slightest.
It's no secret that Garfiel and Frederica are siblings, but their relationship isn't the best with secrets that even Ram's constant questioning will not divulge. Even worse, Elsa's sudden appearance and intervention threw things into a loop.
Frederica, like Garfiel, can only be persuaded by force, and her beast form is tremendous. Even the best of options cannot save Petra from being crushed to death (that was batshit insanely quick) and Subaru only on his last wimps, whilst Elsa clearly is working this under someone's orders.
Beatrice clearly a game changer for saving Subaru AT THE ELEVENTH HOUR, her behaviour as unpredictable as ever.

I hope you don't mind me correcting your mistake. It's called first-person view, not third-person view.
There was a lot of action, and the Beatrice twist at the end was so good!
Throughout the episode I kept thinking "Subaru, open the door that has Beatrice in it!"
Garfiel's change of heart was interesting too, perhaps after seeing Emilia failed twice. he came to his senses and felt it was ok for Sybaru to attempt the trials in Emilia's place.
However, when Subaru came back, Emilia failed for the first time, so Garfiel felt she could still do it.
On a side note, I am happy Ram got more screen time, the delivery of her lines are very good lol.
Note: Please don't confirm or deny any of my theories. I only want to get my thoughts out by asking these rhetorical questions that I don't want answers to. It takes away from the hype. I've waited patiently years for this whilst managing to dodge spoilers left and right. Don't fail me now y'all.
Wow, people are really handling things differently now. I'm guessing Garfiel only wanted him to do the trials when he was the only one who knew that Subaru could do it, but since he blurted it out to everyone, including Ryuzu and Ram, Roswall's confidante, he couldn't do that anymore without consequence. He could've made it so that everyone thought Emilia was doing them instead of Subaru. And then there's Emilia, who doesn't want to turn tail and run. Props to her.
Even Roswall was acting different, he didn't sound like he trusted or had faith in Subaru anymore. Glad to see someone finally pick up on Subaru's ramblings that could clue them in on RBD. More so than ever, I think (theory)
that Roswall knows something about RBD
That pause that Ram had when Subaru was joking about throwing her off into the distance, Subaru actually did that when he was trying to get Rem back into her senses, but since Rem no longer is remembered, she got confused for a bit, I wonder if their twin psychic link is more powerful than we think, and that she will end up remembering Rem.
Wrote the above while watching, and then it was addressed a moment later lol.
Hmm, so I'm now realizing that the reason why she's more loyal to Roswall than ever is because she has nobody else, she used to have Rem, but now she doesn't, and that's why she was ok with being a sacrificial pawn, because she had nobody else to live and come back for.
Wow, I did not expect Frederica to be so cooperative after suspecting her for so long. My theory was that
she's actually half-mabeast and answered to her creator or to a shaman. But now I'm not so sure. Who does she have an oath/contract with? A witch?
Wait, is Ram using a wand? Probably one that Roswall gave her to channel her mana better, like a portable horn. Maybe because Rem is not around to do the fighting.
Return of the Shamac! Why did he grasp his chest? That didn't happen before...is it because his gate still isn't healed? Or is it because he's using the Witch's miasma for Shamac?
Ram just casually throws Subaru out of the cloud. She's stronger than before.
Wait, so Elsa was roaming around the mansion for two days straight? What for? Looking for someone, like Beatrice? I guess Frederica isn't in cahoots with Elsa after all, unless it's an elaborate act, since we never see her again after she goes off to fight her.
Woah, did not expect Frederica to just rip off her clothes, if she was going to transform, then they would've ripped in the transformation anyways lol
Did not expect her to go full beast. I guess Garf gave the stone knowing that she needed it to fully transform. My theory is that
because its a pair, one sibling needs the other's stone to fully-transform, kind of like how Ram and Rem only had one horn each when they were born.
That's no normal mabeast, it got bats floating around and everything! That's definitely (theory)
someone who has transformed. Elsa? or Maylie?
I'm going to have to go back and watch what happened when Subaru was floating in and out of consciousness. It sounded like Emilia, but that can't be! Edit: Never mind, that was totally Ram, I guess she tried to save Subaru by getting him onto Patrasche, but looks like they got knocked back by that mabeast. Excellent animation.
I have to admit, I started crying when I realized that it was only going to be Petra's arm. I almost threw up from gagging (happens when I get incredibly disturbed). It's been so long since I cried in a Re:Zero episode, I think I might just cry again thinking that, out of joy. I was thinking this would just be another exposition episode. I should've known they were going to do that to Petra when she was acting all cute for too long. That cry of Subaru's got me. Best anguished scream he's ever given in the whole series. Looks like Ram's hair tie and Patrasche's body means they all died. I think Ram had to cut off Petra's arm because she was trapped under the rubble and Subaru wouldn't let go. Lots of jump cuts this episode. I wonder if those were in the LN too. (This you can tell me about, whether or not those random cuts were LN material or not, which would explain a lot).
Brings back memories of when I watched Corpse Party, when someone was left holding just the arm of the person. That was traumatizing then and even more so now.
Maylie, a new name, very interesting. My theory is that
Maylie was the mabeast we saw earlier, and that Maylie is actually the blue-haired girl we saw in S1 who was controlling the ulgarm. So now not only do we have Elsa to worry about, but a super powerful mabeast that looks like Melaquera, the beast in the Frozen Bond OVA (My other theory was that Elsa was the mabeast the whole time)
Hmm...Elsa's client knows that Subaru is a shut-in. Echidona and Satella know about his past. But they couldn't employ Elsa, so who else? (Theory)
Someone with a Gospel that actually talks about Subaru? Would make sense, because Elsa apparently knew the future of what would've happened if Subaru hadn't reset. In that case, her client could be Roswall,
because it seems as if both of them have access to the contents of a future-telling Gospel, and both know more about Subaru than they should. But why would he?
What were those spikes that Elsa threw at them? Was it Elsa? That's a new one. Is she half-porcupine? It looked like Ram fully expected her arm to be shredded, but her arm is stronger than the average human's. Plus, she moved around like an animal when fighting Reinhard.
Beatrice saved Subaru. Is it because she doesn't want to see people die, or does she know that she is being targeted and wants Subaru's help?
We all expected Subaru to die and reset, but I'm glad he didn't. Now it's getting interesting.
Tea was next to Beatrice. It probably was always there, but now tea has a new meaning.
Still think Beatrice is a former Witch, or a relative/friend of a Witch, or a current Witch who has changed her name
Episode was called the Maiden's Gospel. There were three maids, and no Gospel in sight. Very interesting choice for a title.
Even if I kinda knew what would happen, it still hurt to see Petra being waifu material cute and dying from a gruesome death.
I wonder who could be the one sending Elsa...
Hyped for the next episode! (like always)

but puck isnt with emilia. Atleast he doesnt answer to her calls and not spawning. Also emilia cannot pass the barrier.
Ahhhh, we're back to suffering again... This episode has been perfectly adapted and it still gives you a surprise like the sudden Mabeast, Elsa going on a killing-spree within the mansion and... Petra please ;_; The timing of the ending song is perfect and the lyrics really match what's on screen, damn...
That scene where Subaru is holding the hand of Petra... That was heavy!! I feel so much for the characters. Also Beatrice 'saving' him at the last second like, what you doing!? Subaru is so mad right now. Next episode Gospel huh? Can't wait for that.
Thrilling episode. Very amusing and interesting how the events from this life and the previous life were completely different. And the identity of the traitor is even more mysterious now that Frederica has been ruled out. Subaru and Beatrice chats are always fun and educational, so next episode should start with a bang.
Poor Sabaru. His suffering continues at the hands of Elsa who was tasked with killing the maids that worked in the mansion and Beatrice. I wonder why Beatrice saved him at the last minute? Can't wait to see the dynamics of their conversation next week.
Most of the characters faces have been elongated this season. So I’m not surprised. They are shifting away from the “moe” look adding nose bridges and nostrils.
The noses in S1 were all dots and characters were rounder.
I feel like Roswaal is Elsa's client. He didn't seem to question Subaru when he said "this time." Maybe Maylie is the mabeast? Elsa let slip her targets were 2 maids and a shut in so maybe Roswaal wanted to keep Ram alive? She also said she had to time her attack upon Subaru's return hence why I think Roswaal really is behind this.
Also, anyone else surprised Subaru didn't die this episode? lol
Brilliant episode! All those flags preceded by Ram's glorious shining moments was just the perfect set-up for the inevitable despair to follow...
Frederica didn't turn out to be the guilty party after all, as expected. Curious on the Bowel Hunter's client as well. Considering how accurate the detail in the mansion should've been under normal conditions, I suppose that only means that our antagonist might not be too far-fetched. I wonder who...
And that Beatrice return in the end, I wonder what that's all about. What would finally force her to take action despite what transpired just moments earlier?
Subaru's POV during that whole intense scene was fantastic as well. See the despair and now feel it, that's the message from the anime team I imagine xD.
Roswaal's reaction to Subaru's "again" certainly was curious-striking though, is he slowly catching up to the trails to figuring out his strange ability?
It's been a hit-and-miss season so far if I'm to be brutally honest but this episode gives me hope that this series is set to make a quality return.
It's absolutely fantastic how they can present us with a situation where it feels like you know what will happen, yet they manage to surprise. Elsa giving away some crucial information and people dying/getting hurt made it seem like a guaranteed return by death situation.
Ram acknowledging Rem as her sister felt good, yet sad. Roswaal acting mysterious as usual. Interesting differences with this reset, and lots of great dialogue. Ram drinking Subaru's tea was rude!
Great cliffhanger, great episode! Looking forward to the next!
