That was a pretty good ending to this season. I was wet by the end. 🥰😭☺️

I sure hope there is a season 2.
Hime was so cute and innocent.

Nothing else more was said about the the mom but they certainly left the door open for continuing.

I suppose I will need to start the manga to feed my passions for what’s next.

It was an ok ending. I'm glad that everyone -except the most likely dead Hime's mom- ended up happy.

I found the final episode a bit disappointing. I wasn't expecting much but the most important plot twists were very predictable. The only one who took me by surprise was Hime's mom who most likely died during or after the accident or even she could survive just she loses her memory. A bit surprised about Hime's half-cousin, unfortunately I don't remember that that was anticipated so meh. The comedy during this anime was a hit or miss. Most episodes were funny except some where the misunderstandings were annoying and some jokes were over the top to my taste.

I enjoyed this anime and even at some point I wanted to give it a high score if I kept on like that until the end. Don't get me wrong, it was a good anime but honestly the ending is a just disappointing, not bad. Very sweet father-daughter relationship. 6/10 for the anime.

So, why did they all go to that house in the present?
Were they told to watch over Hime when she first sees it? And why the elementary school teacher aswell?
Normally Hime shouldn't have seen her for years by that point. To be able to have all characters in the last episode?

And the forklift accident was a bit unrealistic for my taste.

Overall it was decent, I liked the interactions between Hime and Kakushi, some of the comedy was okay, but the ending didn't live up to the expectations I had for the mystery.

Good ending, lots of good comedy/drama switching twists tho quite rushed. Tomaruin such a funny shitbag. Choosing between manga vs his daughter setup as such a tough choice, but nice he ends with both. Really for practical reason of paying medical debt lol.
Rasuna bestgrill becomes mangaka nice, but her nice office gets borrowed by Goto's meeting lol.
The grandpa & wife parts still bit mysteries but sheds more light into Goto's psyche after losing his wife. But the brother reveal & family relations are too rushed to make any meaning.
Overall nice music, great va's, comedy hit or miss, and unique sort of story framing.

Halfway through the anime you get the feeling that something unfortunate has befallen the father character with more signs pointing to it with every episode from there onward. Along with the fear that comes with it you realize how attached you are to Hime and Goto after just a few episodes and you can't help but get increasingly invested in them. Its brilliant how these characters get to your heart and the balance of the melancholic moments with the comedic happy moments came together really well, its like a good dark chocolate, so very bittersweet. The last episode is a roller coaster of emotions even though they have been foreshadowing it for so many episodes and it hit hard in the feels. Such a heartwarming gem of an anime, I am glad I checked it out.

What a great end, started this series because of the comedy but stayed for the emotional bait with the feels (both sad and happy). Quite the reveal this episode, Kakushi really went through a lot; searching for his missing wife, losing his job because his fans couldn't separate his leaked private life from his work and the circumstances leading up to the accident causing him amnesia, all thewhile thinking on how to keep the most precious person to him (Hime) happy.

It was an okay last episode. It felt a bit all over the place for me, idk. I wouldn't have minded not seeing some of the characters, like the teacher/school girls/Tomaruin (since he annoys me).

Anyway, didn't expect to learn about Kakushi's family background, and was hoping to learn more of the drama behind Hime's mom and grandfather. Also didn't think he'd actually be in a coma.

I love Goto Sensei, I mostly stayed for him :X And I need to have a talk (possibly w/ my fists) with those internet trolls and whoever leaked info about his private life, how dare they cause him pain T^T And why did the company not pay for is hospital bills e.e

Glad it was a happy ending. 7/10

Wow, just wow! I've only seen two things from Murano, but I can honestly say the guy can fucking direct! I hope he gets more big projects. It's so rare to see anime that flows so well, with so much energy. I guess everyone has their own preference about pacing, but this was almost perfect for me - if only it didn't get a bit messy towards the end. That ED will be stuck in my head forever, it goes so well with the song!

Quite the melodramatic conclusion but acceptable within the expectations set by the show.

The rest of the series was much more sublte in its display of emotions which made it more impactful, almost every episode had the right balance of gags and bitter-sweet moments. Was great discovering a more touching side of Kumeta, especially since he explored it with his usual mastery.

Would recommend.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......naw, sorry, I tried but I couldn't bring myself to truly enjoy the post-time-skip sections of this series. Every episode they felt like a bother more than a necessity, and then this finale also failed to justify them. Maybe if it was revealed the wife really was still alive and lost at sea I could have put up with them but naw. Or maybe had it flowed and built up to them naturally intstead of devoting the last part of every episode to them obnoxiously to remind us that dark times lie ahead, but honestly that probably wouldn't have worked for me either. I enjoyed the commentary on the manga industry and the relationship between Hime and Kakushigoto in the past enough to award this a solid 7/10, and even that aspect of this series shown in the the finale worked okay, but nothing better.

Also that editor was an obnoxious asshole throughout, not funny.

Also also amnesia is almost never good in anything, even if you call attention to that. But I suppose if it must be done let it be done quickly in the last episode like it was here.

Yeah I agree, didn't feel like the "present" scenes added anything at all. Maybe they gave some excitement at first but then they didn't get anywhere. I guess they were made as build up for the added story in the end but I don't see what that gave anyway. They wanted some extra emotions at the end but they could have done it a lot more elegantly. And 100% agree with the editor...

This episode had so much weird stuff that just made it bad for me, the accident into amnesia came kind of out of nowhere and lasted a whole half episode, why even do it at all then. Then the brother reveal and the stuff about the father didn't give anything at all. And I truly could not understand the reasoning with them not telling him? Hime didn't want to tell him because he looked happy making manga? More happy than being with his daughter that literally was all he cared about in the series? And even if he couldn't move why wouldn't Hime just come to the hospital... It just didn't hold with the "lets not tell him act" imo, which took the drama away from her revealing for him. And would you really not realize it is your daughter you're talking with?

Overall this series was really nice just based of their relationship together and it had some fun moments. It really made me appreciate the people I have around me, it's nice to be reminded how much your loved ones really mean, and how much you would miss them if they were gone. It was still nice in the last episode when he said he just wanted her to grow up but I wish they would put more emphasis on their interaction when she was a grown up instead. Now we barely got to see it because of all of that useless shit. Feel like they tried to force a bunch of story out of nowhere that in the end didn't really give anything.

Although it seems like most people enjoyed the episode a lot and it gave them a good conclusion to the series so I guess that's nice.

I only have one question. If the mom died in an accident, why was she making boxes for Hime if she didn’t know she was going to die?

I feel like all the episodes were very shallow and at the end they tried to pull a clique emotional roller coaster that didn’t work for me. They could have focused in the relationship father daughter, or they could have focused on the hardships of being a mangaka but they decided to do both and at the end they didn’t do much with either. It wasn’t even that funny :( I really wanted to love this one.

I thought it would be more drama than comedy but I was wrong. Still pretty heartwarming to watch. I preferred the drama parts tho. That was still a sweet ending! Seemed a little rushed tho? Like everything the episodes built up to with all that melodrama just reduced to that. Nothing wrong with it but cliche, as Tomaruin remarked. I guess I would have preferred if they went with more melodrama, it just all fell a little flat. But you can’t go wrong with a sweet father-daughter tale, it’s bound to tug on some heartstrings.

On one hand this anime was so-so in terms of comedy and on another that irrelevant manipulative drama in the end. Overcomplicating relations in family of MC is also redundant. It's like author wanted to make something special with several serious themes wrapped in a comedy but episodes weren't enough to develop anything of it.

It's pretty ridiculous that previous anime I watched the Great Pretender was light-hearted and even factually dramatic scenes there weren't sad at all even though they should be when this actually comedy anime had a strong focus on drama for no reason. Some authors definitely need to be more coherent and also "Jack of all trades, master of none" obviously.

After finishing the fantastic movie Wolf Children, I went with this, as the synopsis suggested another moving tale about single parenthood. ...And what a deception.

The show was certainly about a single dad and his kid. But the show doesn't use this in an effective manner at all. Kakushi never acted like a mature adult. The work skits were awful, with way too much unfunny dialogue that set up a mundane punchline, if any. Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun was a better manga comedy. In fact, the first episode of Don't Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro had more manga comedy than this. I could roll off many, many shows with a sub-8.00 MAL score that had better comedy than this.

With the comedy being flat, the show could've still redeemed itself with world-building or relaxation moments. Unfortunately, there wasn't any room to breathe. About 10 characters were introduced in episode 1. I don't remember any of the names of Kakushi's co-workers or Hime's friends. They were that unmemorable. This show is in that limbo land where it's not funny, but it's also not iyashikei like Non Non Biyori. NNB's extended cast is introduced gradually, so you get to know them better.

But the greatest failing of this show was the interactions between Kakushi and Hime. Kakushi could've been Hime's older brother and nothing would've changed. None of it felt genuine or emotional, as both of them just go about their day, and then have small talk at night about various things like owning a pet in the laziest manner of writing possible. There was no tension whatsoever. And that's the problem: Kakushi and Hime are too perfect. They're both sanitized and idealized versions of parent and child. Kakushi's work personality all but disappeared at home.

The timeskip teases to set up this final episode looked intriguing. But it ended up just being a poor facsimile of Erased's ending. Very little payoff, and the resolution was stupid: Why run to the house with the archived manga? It's not as if they were about to disappear the next day!

There are many shows with a single surrogate guardian or parent, like Bunny Drop, Barakamon, Hinamatsuri, or even Himouto Umaru-chan, as Umaru's brother portrays better family care than Kakushi. Those shows are touching and funny. They're everything that Kakushigoto isn't. Even surrogate guardian shows with sharper, more controversial comedy like UzaMaid or Wataten were better than this, and had great final episodes. Kakushigoto was quite possibly the worst take on single "parenthood" I've seen in anime, and I have no idea how it has such a high MAL score. But maybe people actually enjoy completely inoffensive, bland, boring shows. 2/10.

What an absolutely beautiful conclusion to a beautiful series. Great storytelling to have everything come full circle at the end there. Goto was afraid of Hime finding out the truth and hid is career from her. When he wakes from the coma, Hime and co want to hide the truth from him.

I think the sequence of Hime running to meet up with her friends and get those manga manuscripts is one we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Very fitting that at the end, Goto’s love for manga is what brings back his memories and reconnects he and his daughter. Heartwarming show.

For those interested, the manga is also ending next month.

Just finished rewatching the series after watching the movie and the movie fills in a lot of the gaps in the anime, but realistically had they made this a 24 episode series it would have been even better than it was. But, its a wonderful anime and even better the 2nd time around. I loved trying to figure out which character was based off Zetsubo characters too.. Chiri-chan being the most recognisable.

Wow, this show was a massive disappointment. I knew from my very brief experience with Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei that I wasn't much of a fan of Kumeta's comedic style (and on that note, gotta remove Joshiraku from my PTW as I didn't know that was one of his works too), but I honestly didn't expect this show to be so heavy on its comedic elements. I was expecting something more akin to Usagi Drop, a wholesome slice-of-life mixed with more serious elements when appropriate. Instead, what we got seemed to be a show with an identity crisis, stuck between its disparate comedic and wholesome elements and ultimately never fully committing to either in favour of... whatever this was.

Seriously, this final episode was so weird and felt more or less completely out of place from the rest of the show, while simultaneously being rushed as hell to the point of being near-enough incoherent. Most of these reveals about the family history and the two "love children" feel utterly irrelevant, and the amnesia ploy is so contrived to boot. More to the point, it doesn't feel like this mystery justified the slow build-up it was given throughout the show, and I'm not even sure why it was necessary at all: did Kumeta think that a simple father-daughter story wouldn't grab people and that he needed some sort of gimmick to keep people interested? Because he didn't.

Besides all that, not too much else to say. When the show went for emotional punches with Hime and Gotou's interactions, it generally landed as intended, but the show ultimately didn't have enough of that. On the flipside, the show had way too much of Tomaruin, such an irritatingly obnoxious and obtuse character.

4/10. Last Kumeta work I will ever watch, as I clearly don't like his writing style at all. I wish I'd just stuck with the gut feeling I had when this was a seasonal and I skipped it because of it being a Kumeta work.

Overall the show was pretty good. Some genuinely funny comedy, likeable characters, and an ominous atmosphere throughout. but that final episode was utter trash...it ruined everything! I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks it would have been better if he had died. But the whole coma/amnesia thing might have been more palatable without complicating matters with shipwrecks, love children and...kabuki theater? What the fuck?

I got really worried about the direction we were headed in when Hime started asking if Goto was really her father. Thankfully it didn't go there.

I give it a generous 7/10

I m glad all that teasing after each episode end wasn't for nothing, and shit really happened, I really didn't expect it to conclude like this, based on what the show was going for.
The SoL wasnt bad, but I was not that captivated by the characters either (I loved the OP thought).
So I was ready to give the series a 7, but thankfully this episode was a good surprise.

7.7/10 = 8

The ending was the one the best parts of the anime, but indeed, it was soo rushed, it needed at least an episode 13, because they suddenly dropped all of that in a single episode... would have been even better if it had time to flesh all of that out.
Like you said, it was unnecessary, but to me, it felt like that, because the anime reserved soo little time to explain this all.
