Here is my theory based on what happened to her dad based on this episode. I think that the dad is still alive. The reason why she is crying wishing for that kind of life at the end of the episode is because of her grandpa, who at some point took her away from her dad to raise her himself, which is why she seems so emotionless when she is older. They will reunite in the end, as seen in the ED.

I don't see how Hime's grandfather could have taken her away though, and there's nothing foreshadowing this. There's obviously history between him and Kakushi but it's not like he threatened him or anything, they had a somewhat casual conversation, he even teased him about his manga's title.

THIS! This is what I wanted to say. I think Hime's momma is from a rich and wealthy family and eloped with Goto. Perhaps, after some issues, whether it is legal or perhaps grandpa wanted to give Hime a chance to study at a prestigious school, took her in.

another kick to the gut at the end of the episode. Seems to me like Hime's grandfather is the master artist hinted at in the scene at the mall, im sure thats where Goto's lack of self confidence originally comes from. Man i know this show is gonna bring some tears when we finally get some payoff from these future scenes with Hime. Top 1 show this season. Btw the op is sad asl after paying attention to the lyrics for the first time

A cute montage of Hime with many different outfits and the teacher got a lot of best girl points with that fast thinking.

There is no way he is dead but I'm starting to doubt about it.

Yeah they do exist. The anime mentioned it to be Kidzanira, but the real thing is called Kidzania.

OMG seriously?

How do you take a Slice of Life Comedy anime and throw that in at the end.
The tears better be some endearing tears of joy and happiness.

Who’s to say he mother is just estranged or something?

This is killing me though.

Incidentally the Kids Work Theme Park is a real thing with locations globally.

So first I thought Kakushi got into some accident and died, but now I am thinking more like the grandad took hime away from Kakushi and she was too young to understand and grew hating her dad because she thought he abandoned her while in reality he probably was put into a situation against Hime's grandad where he has to walk away from her life. Probably something happened that scared Kakushi for Hime's safety and the grandad showed to him how unable he was to raise a girl.

This is all speculaton, who else have a theory about what is going on. Regardless, this ending made me pretty sad.

On the actual episode is interesting how Kakushi sees himself and how much fear is he always under. Fear tends to shake his confidence on both direction and is something that clearly shows here where he originally thought that he needs to please everyone and alway say Yes. And then go into a spiral where he even thought that the manga signing was forced and nobody really will go through the effort of visiting his book signing event.

The stranger danger scene was pretty funny as 'Mr CEO' Satsuki looks like a stalker of Hime's maid, Nadila. And Ichiko traps him with a stick for dogs (I think is for dogs).

This episode was great! Some of the comedy in this show is really a hit or miss, but this episode had me laughing several times. That ending was heartbreaking tho, I still had hopes that Goto was alive but now...

Ichiko-sensei earned so many "best girl" points with that perfect save. Such a shame it seems Kakushi will remain single forever...

Overall, quite wholesome episode... except for the weekly dose of angst we always receive at the end, of course. Seeing Hime wearing different job outfits was super cute, by the way.

Another week and without realizing it, we are already halfway through Kakushigoto ...
I have more and more fun with this series and the 6th chapter has not been an exception:

Kakushi's reactions are great and I think Hime's when she finds out Dad's secret will be even better!

On the other hand, the one I suppose appeared, he is Kakushi's father-in-law and of course, he is in love with the tenderness of his granddaughter.

And regarding the timeskip, I think we all need answers ... and soon.

Great episode and just wait for the next week!

The scene with Ichiko saving Kakushi was priceless lol, i think we all agree she's one of the best girls.

Honestly i wasn't thinking he could be dead, maybe retired or whatever, but now i'm not sure. Just hoping to not having my feelings crushed ;-;

The man in the car is probably Hime's grandfather on her mother's side. The man mentioned Goto-sensei bearing a grudge against him, so maybe it's the man's fault Hime's mother is gone?

Now i'm also curious about mom's past. We don't know much about her. Maybe next ep can answer some things.

Great episode as always.
Can't believe he didn't get caught... xD

And as usual, the episode ends in a sad note, especially with that ED after...
We're already halfway through!

I actually felt really sad when Goto kept thinking no one was gonna show up to see him, im glad they didnt play it up as a joke at his expense and people did genuinely come to see him.

I'm already familiar with the content due to the manga, but this really was done well. ;o;
The father and son fans darn near brought a tear to my eyes. ;~;
Also, that ending. OOO:
BUT ALSO, Ichiko is so cue. ;A;; Good quick thinking, but I guess it wasn't necessary in the end.

Hime probably has recognized her father. She just doesn't want to accept the fact that her father is hiding the truth about his job.

Oh well, the box had a pretty much memorable memories there. The manga from her father, such an intense feeling when seeing Hime tearing.

To the past story telling at the whole episode, had a fun time, as always. Thats give me more touching area where Goto seeing the true sight of his beloved fans. Quite sad moment, tho, when kid Hime, with her plain behaviour, regret the aura of Goto's when seeing the fact about sign-greeting events. Thats it the best from this episode from all scenes happen, refusing some shit may happen to that old man talking with Goto at the half of the episode.

Finally, I could enjoy the episode since the start until the end. Hilarious jokes, funny rivalry between Kakushi Gotou and his editor, themes well done and more good interactions between characters.

My favourite part is the autograph scene.

Nice save there stranger danger teacher...even though Hime couldn't recognise her mangaka-mode dad. Pretty sure Naoto Date is the mom's dad (Hime grandpa) who by the looks of it is a world renowned painter.

I'm somewhat surprised Gotou doesn't readily believe he has a fandom. Why would he be able to continue publishing his manga if no one was reading it? I can appreciate the lack of confidence, but it just doesn't seem all that in-character for him? All things considered, he's rather well-adjusted.

I'm like, a hair away from looking up what's up with these end scenes. The information isn't coming fast enough, and it's killing me not to know if we're looking at a tragic ending.

This series is really good.

They did an excellent job portraying Gotou's insecurity and inferiority complex. And it was heartwarming to see him get his confidence and pride back by seeing his fans' appreciation for him.

Furthermore I liked the parallelism of how all of this is happening while Hime is out learning about the value of all the jobs out there. What hit me the most was that it wasn't the high profile jobs that Hime liked the most, but it was working at a bookshop. It may not be as big as being a master artists, but she enjoys it and that's what matters.
