THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
For a mission, that got complicated. I'd had expected as such since Team 7 had to deal with more than just bandits.

They had to fight against who to trust while protecting a girl named Kiri. The episode itself was okay, had a decent amount of psychology to it. Quite frankly, I think the mission is what Team 7 needed to get them to understand the importance of being a ninja.

They were somewhat unfazed by the stabbing when the enemy appeared, which felt out of place to me. Otherwise a great way to actually begin the series - the scum is thinking small now, going in for the money in the peaceful age, but with the time more and more dangerous enemies and opponents will be revealed. The new ending sequence is alright, I guess. Nothing over the top like the Sarada-chapter ending. It was overflowing with symbolism.

And now we begin to see why the first 35+ episodes of this show killed the new kids credibility.

So Mitsuki is good enough to beat Shino...

But now he can't do jack shit against a piss poor shinobi?

Boruto and co could help the hidden mist deal with their msjor issues but now look weak against this new group?

In the original series when Zabuza showed up it was a clear indicator of how far Naruto, Saskue and Sakura had to go in terms of development. Boruto and co have already surpassed that shit.

This series will send sooner rather than later.

Anybody else is starting to hate Boruto? (not the series, the character) He's becoming too arrogant to his own good.

Well it was obvious that this mission wasn't going to be, in Boruto's words, a piece of cake. Let's see how they handle this complicated situation.

Also, I don't really care for the new ED.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I also really liked that shot of Naruto's generation when those guys were talking about strong Leaf ninja who survived the war. It was a small part of this episode, but it just looked really cool.

Did Mitsuki activate his Sage mode? So that everyone knows he has a Sage mode? NO? YOUR MENTALLY CHALLENGED.

lol when konohamaru is the serious one.

for a time of peice those three are handling death a little too well. remember they didn't grow up surrounded by war, famine, and death.

I almost want them to fail to knock Boruto down a little.

This episode felt a bit off for some reason, i gave it a 4/5 but maybe that was too high. The fights where too short and was ended quickly.

The episode was predictable too, obviously it would turn out to be more difficult than expected but wouldn't at least C-rank initially be more appropriate? (i believe this was the case for narutos first mission).

Well OF COURSE it just couldn’t be a simple mission! That would work with anything I’ve learned from Shonen structure!

But tbh I’m excited :) so ! Idc if it’s generic !
Also the new ED is cool :)

The classic inappropriately classified D mission. Like others have said, being that there are literally missions to find someone’s lost pet, it’s weird that a mission actually involving fighting isn’t classified as a C.

The whole death thing was weird too. In an age of peace death is out of the norm so it was weird to watch them act like nothing happened. Further, we at least know that Mitsuki has activated sage mode so it’s weird to see this disconnect where they act like these enemies are so strong when they’ve not only conquered more in the past, but might even be stronger themselves. Action-wise I enjoyed the episode, but it was definitely inconsistent.

The ED graphics were nice and even though the four main teams were obvious from the start I’m still sad about Kakashi clone/goth girl.

honestly the whole first mission being D rank turning into a B rank is so predictable but nonetheless satisfying. I didn't like what they did with sarada in this episode though do to one thing that she said, "I couldn't do anything " or something like that, but it just gave me that useless sakura vibe (not that she's useless but thats how she was portrayed for much of the first naruto series imo). Other than that I'm just waiting on some good fights in next weeks episode hopefully. Really liked the ending too it really sounded and felt less childlike and festive, instead it gave me the vibe of action and I hope that's what we'll get in the coming episodes. Aside from all that, I hope Konohamaru really gets the screen time he deserves as the series goes along, really curious to see what he's picked up over all these years. Also hoping to see some good stuff outta Boruto from a jutsu standpoint as we all know that Naruto's jutsu range is kinda limited to rasengan and shadow clones lmao (still love ya Naruto). All things aside, I liked the nostalgic feel of the small village type of thing that we got in the beginning of Naruto as well, I'm glad they're kinda following a similar storyline to what Naruto did up until now, some of the best parts of Naruto were the parts when they were still young kids finding themselves stuck in the dangerous world of shinobi and I'm glad they're going back to that as they should.

Jesus man, just how many times do they have to repeat to damn Boruto that he shouldn't act on his own.

Very nice new ending tho, I was expecting the movie arc to start from ep 40 but they got this mini arc in first I guess, here's hoping it won't go more then 3 episodes minimum.

Average episode. Even though there were interesting moments like the guy with the sword fighting Boruto, the episode, as a whole was not that interesting. It looks like this arc is gonna be a filler. I can't talk about spoilers, but this arc will end the next episode. So, just a pathetic story.
The animation of Konohamaru really bugged me. And that scene where the villain stabbed the man in the heart, but the man still survived and Boruto was joking the next moment...that was really some bullshit.

Back in Naruto's time, D missions were about finding lost cats, items, and really simple stuff. C missions were mostly simple escort missions.

Now in Boruto basically they were told to stop a war between villages. Even if it's one-sided, and they believed they were maybe bandits, or regular people. It's a D mission. Just the description of the mission sounded like a strong C, or a weak B one.
Of course it turned out to be a B, or higher level by now.

Basically, it's the repetition of the Zabuza arc. Just instead of escorting, they were actually expecting danger, and it already sounded a bit dangerous.

I know it's only been one episode, and somehow and it might be different, but is it really that difficult to avoid going the same route? Low-rank mission turns out to be dangerous (probably) because of lack of money in the village, and both stories are little bit about a bridge.

I don't mind these things that much, it just feels like the story writer aims for the nostalgia, but on a bit higher level.

Anyways, I enjoyed the episode. Hopefully Boruto learns to be a bit more cooperative by the end of the arc.

So its finally time for their first mission then. Hmm so their first mission is stopping thieves from stealing food. But its nice to see that both Naruto and Shikamaru have reached a point where they worry about their sons first op's though. So the troubles started around the time that the previous head passed then. I guess its natural that Kiri would be wary at seeing the teams ages. But the change to the mission sure was a surprise. So what the enemy wanted was actually the deed. Even in this age of peace its nice to see that the mention of the village still restrains the enemy on account of the famous ninja's that still serve it. Still that was actually a good plan that the enemy used to draw out both the team and the village head and use that opportunity to kidnap Kiri.

I'm blown away how many storylines are lifted from Naruto. It's not just the homages or the tone in a wink-wink way, they're lifting scenes and arcs and replaying them directly.

OK I appreciate that Naruto was great and timeless....but Boruto really needs something to escape its shadow so it can stand on its own after 40 episodes. If this is just going to be a part 1 retread.....

I feel like I know what is gonna happen and I don't even need to watch it anymore. WOW who ever decided the plot. But Boruto really should listen to Sarada and sensei for once, he is getting way ahead of himself. Hope new Team 7 gets a better and original development instead of surpassing their old generation and becoming the next sanin or the next sanin like people.
