Well, this was actually a really good first episode. Introduced the plot and moved things along at a decent pace, conveyed information well without relying on exposition very much at all and was also very visually pleasing despite the dark colour palette. Some good animation in Hyakkimaru's fight against the demon too, and a great OP and excellent ED too.

This is definitely looking promising already, that's for certain.

Incredible episode, solid production and that OP and ED are amazing, definitely my favorites this season so far. Can't wait for the next episode.

Quite overwhelmed after just trying out to see what kind of series it is. And then - Buddha, Tezuka Osamu, Amazarashi... A surprise, to be sure, but a pleasant one...
Quite many points I want to address, first being the fact that this is not a known for Tezuka Osamu kind of story - usually they are extremely positive, I'd say even rivaling Fairy Tail. Here it is quite a dark story in dark times. A change of pace, but obviously Dororo would not make it this far not being a decent piece of art.
The language is hard on ears, it is quite hard to understand the ancient Japanese when some sentences are exclusively that. Also, the English translation... could surely be better and more accurate, especially for the usual Japanese. +for the old Japanese, -to whoever decided not to do a thorough work on the English subtitles.
The not quite usual, but a must for medieval Japan trait - greatly religiously influenced world. I dare say here it goes hand in hand with symbolism, which is welcome. Buddha statue losing its head to protect the cursed child... is still something, even if it sounds quite generic. Monk, dying to protect the world from evil, is quite a fundamental thing here - the monk who also claimed to have started losing faith, when facing against someone who is prepared to not only deal with the devil, but also to murder if it furthers his goals, clearly sees Buddhas teachings true - the world needs to be protected from evil. The opening sequence is also done in the tradition of true art, which only makes me happier.
And then there is Amazarashi - who else could sign a song to a faithless morally depraved age, rife with demons and backward oldmen? Even if I am not exactly most faithful to the direction Amazarashi songs are taking today (or maybe, which I am afraid to admit, I am just unable to understand them anymore), the contribution of Amazarashi's spirit to this series fits well.
And lastly Mappa (That was Geno animated intro for Kokkoku, did Mappa trade it? Hmmm), an ambiguous jack-of-all-trades studio. I will always be waiting for a third entry in the Shingeki no Bahamut series, so I am glad they are still kicking AND kicking something good.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I bear no degree in music, but... I don't think it worked here. Overall the opening gets a pass, I believe.

Tbh, a lot of Tezuka works are dark, especially the one's written during his depression. So compared to those, this is kind of tame.

Oh, that I did not know myself. After all I am only accustomed to Tezuka through the Atom and Black Jack. Now this.

Finally! Just some consistency!
Though beware the child might not like all the lines it has to say in the setting...

Since it's streaming on Amazon, there will be official subs so you won't have to wait long for it to uploaded on KissAnime and such (let's be real, hardly anyone would use Amazon for anime).

Why can't I find it on Amazon prime -_- smh :3
Although I saw it. Pretty neat. I wish they would have skipped over 16 years without a proper backstory, hopefully we get some backstory in the upcoming episodes. Dororo as a character is pretty good.

That was pretty good! I feel like the make or break for this show is going to be whether the story is interesting or not.

Best premiere episode so far. That was really damn good.

Dororo was nice. Glad that a young teen actually voiced Dororo to really sell the kid voice.

If anyone is wondering about the 12 demons = 12 episodes for the series idea, that doesn't seem to be the case. Dororo will be at least 15 episodes long or possibly a 2 cour series. This is because the director of the ED said on twitter that he's working on episode 15.

Hyakkimaru looks better than in the original. badass.
Changing the character design makes sense. Due to the gloomy atmosphere.

I was very into it. It's not only the good production, the action and the story, but the worldbuilding seems seriously fascinating and the way it's paced, the supernatural folklore elements, this felt a lot like watching a classic chambara with a more bombastic directorial style that somehow fits.

Whoever thought that opening was a good idea however... why.

The first third was kind of slow and confusing, but it was completely necessary to show what was going on, especially since there’s no narration to tell what’s going on. Once it came together it made sense. The second third was good at setting up Dororo’s character. I like him so far : ). And then of course the final third was amazing. That fight was really dynamic, and it was pretty interesting too. I liked the way it was animated and it was pretty badass. I’m excited for next week after that ending! The OP isn’t like any music I can remember. It sounds really weird to me. I’m not sure if I like it or not yet. The ED, however, I love already. It’s kind of adorable and I like the song as well. I’m really hyped for this show

It's so weird to see Dororo in such a dark style considering the manga looks so cartoonish, but man does it look great.

What is with studio Mappa and OP's with English though, the op still looks really nice the song is going to take getting use to though. ED is a bop though, now that's the good stuff.

The fight scenes look pretty neat, I can't wait to see the later demons! Hyakkimaru looks so cool, I really like the character designs here.

I don't remember any old lady getting killed in the manga, or some strong old guy, pretty sure MC's parents sent him off. Sorta weird how they went straight for the time skip, these changes are going to take a bit to get use to, I mean this manga was only like 19 chapters anyway so makes sense.

For my most anticipated original of this year, it's already promising!

Don't worry about being lame now, you were always lame anyway!

This is off to a spectacular start, great atmosphere and fight choreography combined with an interesting backstory that lends itself well to making me very interested in the protagonist before we even hear him speak.

Fantastic episode.

First of all, what the hell Mappa? That intro caught me crazy off guard. XD

Read the synopsis which sounded promising and this was a fantastic start. Might be the best premiere of this season.

From what I saw, it seemed like the demons wanted to take the life of both the Lord's wife and his child but the Buddha protected both of them, unfortunately the kid did not come out unscathed. He lost everything but somehow kept his life.
I'm genuinely interested in how the kid survived. I wonder if that badass grandpa saved him somehow.

I thought that the first heir shown in the beginning was named Dororo and not the orphan it turned out to be.
Looks like whenever he defeats a demon, the first heir regains some part of the body.

The atmosphere is bleak and dark. Just watching it makes you feel a gloomy.
Production seems great, the art and animation were really good especially all the samurai action scenes.

Can't wait for more, this might turn out to be really really good.

Great episode. So far, it's easily the most impressive (non-sequel) of the season. There's still a ton left to premiere this week, so we'll see how it holds up.

Pros:
+ Great Premise
+ Solid Animation
+ Ending Sequence Was Great

Cons:
+ The OP song was a bit... Odd? It felt a little too "modern" compared to the setting of the show.
Pretty much how I felt too, but the visuals for the OP and the ED in general were great though

But this episode flew by so fast for me....I had a damn great time with this one

Such a heartbreaking, epic, action packed, great animation and a potentially great story line opening episode. So that is how he will get his body parts by a lightning strike.

I think me and this anime are going to get along great, if I rated anime before they end this would be a 9 so far.
