Was much better than I expected it sucks that Yomi had to go through all of that she pretty much lost everything in an instant so who could really blame her for relying on some weird buterfly kid. Now im interested in reading the manga 7.5/10

this is a prequel series for the manga Gai-Rei that is why there are so many unanswered questions left at the end. I just finished the anime myself, and I really wish they would make an anime out of the main storyline because i don't want to read the manga.

A pretty good ending for the show. I'm glad Yomi kind of came to her senses. Some nice action as well, that Michael 13th is pretty good.
A lot of things were shown though like new characters who we really don't know, but it was a nice touch for those who read the manga. Also seeing Kagura with long hair and all badass was great.

My feelings are kind of mixed with this anime. On one hand the action and story was good, but on the other hand the show just didn't really interest me all that much. I didn't find myself thinking between episodes about what could happen next and with this the enjoyment dropped a little.
Another thing that bothered me was Yomi's change. Like I said in a previous episode, it was a bit stupid. Both Yomi was stupid for not even trying to tell the others the truth, and the others were stupid for not trying to understand her.
Even though everyone's favorite seems to be Yomi, my favorite was Kagura. Yomi was a good character, but Kagura's personality is just more for my liking.
The action scenes were good, but most of them not all that interesting except Yomi and Kagura's fight.

All in all the anime gets a 7/10 from me. It was a good show, but could have been even better.

As much as I want to overlook all of the flaws in this anime because of Yomi(Probably my new favorite female anime character) there were quite a few things that dragged it down for me.

After watching the whole series, the first two episodes seem somewhat unnecessary. I mean, we never see the people from episode 1 again except in a quick scene. They never got any further development and Yomi's connection to them was never explained. Then episode 11 pretty much covered episode 2 more efficiently. Besides, this is just me but I feel it would've been way more emotional to not know about Yomi's heel turn. I mean just imagine seeing the scene after episode 8's credits, when she's impaled without knowing she'd be around later.

Also, how the hell did the director and Kiri survive and why doesn't Kiri remember anything and is having nightmares about it 2 years later? Who is the butterfly kid and what the hell's his deal? He was just like a random insert villain lol.

Despite it's problems though I still enjoyed it quite a bit so 8/10

Not going to bother with the manga since I hear it's not as good and Yomi's(Who is somehow alive....wtf?)role is much smaller. Honestly if it wasn't for her this would've been a 6/10 at best. The rest of the characters just pale in comparison. Kagura alone probably would've driven me to drop the show.

Great ending although I didn't like it as much but there was no other way. Great show, nice OST that fitted the atmosphere of the show, filled with likable cast, multidimensional MC's, incredible action scenes, a well developed relationship between the two main characters, nice sense of mystery, interesting weapon concepts and a great style of storytelling ( I was always a fan of out of chronological order way of telling a story). I can't bring myself to give this anything lower than a 9.

9/10 and a new favorite :)

Its a prequel, Its supposed to be before the first story but its like an add-up to the first story, and some things like the creepy white haired kid finish they development in the manga (lke fate/zero, the prequel of fate stay night, some of the characters are there hanging around just because they are going to have a major role in stay night), if the serie didnt have nothing to connect to the original story it would be pointless to call it a prequel.

About the first 2 chapters I agree with you, in the point that the first team was there just to show up "important" characters getting killed, but parts like in the beggining kagura looking for yomi in the tunnel and Yomi saying that noriyuki its a coward, and them in the chapter 11 showing the same scene but from the point of view of Noriyuki and why he's a "coward", was very great (I like those kinds of revelations, when something said in beggining its explained near the end).

About the anime, I really liked it, the development was great (waaaay better than the manga, that its not serious about his plot sometimes -with stupid looking characters with no explanation in the background, just appearing for no reasons-), Im not agree with a second season because of that, because the manga doesnt have the depth plot that the anime prequel have, its the usual shounen with plain shounen characters.

Really weak in my opinion. Maybe it's because I've been reading the manga (still on vol. 6) which has a totally different vibe to it. For the most part I thought the anime was very boring. It did start getting interesing around episode 8. Episode 9 was my favorite was my favorite since it was so emotional. I think it did have a decent ending.

Still I like the manga more, even though it's not that great either, at least it feels much more carismatic. The anime lacks more interesting characters like Ken or Shizuru from the manga. Though it being a prequel it's understandable why the're not around.

On the other hand Yomi's character was very pleasent, it was the strong point for this series. Unfurtonately she's not all that important in the manga. Since the anime took care of giving her more depth, it was worth watching for that.

For those missing Yomi, here some manga spoilers (from chapter 1):

I like it. Lots of character development. The story was quite simple and easy to grasp but at the same time you kind of feel something complex about it - the mysterious air to it, the complicated relationships.

I read the manga right after and I must say I like the prequel waaaaay better. I wish I never read it, what a repetitious mess.

Powerful ending. It wasn't as much of a tear-jerker as I expected it to be, but the nearly-flawless execution of such a simple story is something I don't see in anime these days. There are a couple of loose ends, especially how the characters we see at the beginning aren't even mentioned after the 2nd episode. I would've loved to see their stories tied into the main plot somehow, but I guess that's too much to ask from a 12-episode series.

A solid 9/10 from me.

Fist off I hate yomi for being a back stabber but when I know the reason I don't hate her now but I don't like her either, and I don't think that it is good that she comebacks again in manga(thats stupid) and from ep3 I know shes a fake

Second I hate karuka for being such a pusssy bitch, and all the stupid drama she put on

and lastly I hatehow just a misunderstanding can ruin yomi into a bad character, it felt too damn comfortable for the writer... She could have explained what happen on a computer or sth, she can type right? I mean wtf,

But overall for the sake of the animation and the blood shed that I loved and the story line which is good and it will be very good if what I mentioned earlier is not so stupidly laid down.

An interesting series with a very good and strong character in Yomi. There was a lot more potential though, and I think episode 1 was unnecessary.

I'll check the manga out now.

Kagura was pretty before but now she's even prettier~ I really love Yomi, she's close behind Kagura in my favorites, am I the only one who still kind of wishes that Kagura still used a sword? I like Michael the 13th XD but yeah, I loved the ending a lot, I doubt there'll be a second season but I'm definitely reading the manga

I had a bit of trouble getting into this. The start was action packed and all but I couldn't immerse myself in the show. I blame the boring dialogue.

It wasn't until the incident with Yomi that things became much more exciting. That was when Ga Rei Zero became good in my eyes.

Yomi is the best character out of the cast. Her development was the most well done and believable and her story the most interesting. She carried the show for me. Everyone else pales in comparison and their development was poorly handled.

In the end, I like it though quite a few things could've been improved on. 7/10

A great finish to a good anime! I'm glad that some people managed to survive the onslaught that was Yomi, especially the Ayame and Kiri (who sadly seems to have been mentally traumatised) :/ Still, glad Kagura finally found the resolve to kill Yomi, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been angry at her for not doing it earlier but then that wouldn't have made for good storytelling! Still think Noriyuki got off easy given what he did in the last few episodes. I suppose season 2 is definitely not happening given how much time has passed and I'm not sure of the link this series has with Tokyo ESP. Overall this anime was certainly a diamond in the rough 8/10.

Oh I feel soo good now. Read Ga-Rei ages ago and finally got myself to marathon (short but still) Ga-Rei Zero.

Yomi, Yomi, Yomi. She is awesome. At first tall and flat :D but then develops into super hot young lady (that awesome dark school uniform and long hairs).
Everything about Yomi is great. Even when She was wounded, could not speak or move. Best Kagura x Yomi sister moment aside from kissing :3

I was so sad when everyone turned against her. Misunderstanding phone buttons for reply. That moment when Kagura left the hospital room, Yomi typing on the phone. I wanted Kagura to stay and read the freaking phone display.

Girls kissing, little boobies and bathing. Best Ecchi!!!
Lost of blood everywhere, not everyone dead also great ^_^

Would be 9.5 but not such thing on MAL so a 10/10!
I have a feeling that I'll be re-reading Ga-Rei just cause of Yomi.

Finally... After 3-4 fucking years of seeing the yuri scene between Yomi and Kagura on yt I've decided to watch this show at last... and just finished now lol

I really hated how this wasted 8 episodes for flashbacks and prior events but I guess it all worked out in the end and I liked the show overall, also glad that Yomi died because after she obtains the Bane Stone she became a real bitch to me(well obv lmao)

The ending was good imo wasn't shitty and didn't leave any plot holes or shit that shows a transition for a new season(same as Blue Exorcist when it ended with a fighting scene), but in contrary BE is ongoing and Ga Rei Zero is long gone lol.

Really didnt want the guy with the suitcase to die and the other nabu guy to die ;/ damn... At least kiri and the lady in the wheelchair survived(which I was happen to see especially)

Alright I guess this is the end of this message lol cya

I'm surprised that wheelchair lady and Kiri were still alive. I thought it was implied that they were both killed by Yomi.

This series was a disappointment for me. I expected something special from the show, and I did see some potential a third of the way through, but that potential was lost afterwards. It did not take off and ended up into a boring and uninteresting show, but I continued watching in hopes of a fantastic ending that the show may pull off. All I got were cheap drama that I had seen many times which had disengaged me from the emotional moments of the show, especially the death scenes and whatnot.

The 2 years jump managed to catch my interest into wanting to read the manga to continue the series. I will try to do so and pray it does justice because it will make watching the anime worth it. Overall, I give Ga-Rei: Zero 6/10 as the flaws were too much for me to bear.

Omg, Yomi's final wish was so heartbreaking. :( :( :( The way the anime showed it during the fight was really well done.

Really liked this series. I love stories where two super close characters face off in a final battle and one has to kill the other. I wish the characters from the first episode actually tied in more though. Also, Noriyuki was completely useless. This anime could have been a yuri and the effect would have been the same.

And Yomi looks hot in a ponytail. And I'm a female!

Started off great, ended in a disappointment. Although it became so predictable, I should have smelled the disappointment miles away. I really hate Kagura and Yomi's bf; some of the most annoying characters I saw in anime recently. Really loved Yomi, she was the only likeable character, the rest were either bearable or trash. I don't even mind the outcome as much; if only the characters (especially the lead character Kagura) wasn't so unbearable to listen to.

And here I was, looking at the manga page, seeing Yomi listed as a character, and thinking "they're going to save her, they're going to somehow get her to turn good agai--oh my...oh no..." I was worried that the events in the first 2 episodes were just going to be teaser for the manga, so I'm relieved that everything came full circle and there was a resolution conclusion that didn't just leave me hanging. I can't say I'm exactly happy about it though, considering it was at Kagura and Yomi's expense. But it was still gripping and pulled me without delay.

Overall this really did turn out to be a hidden gem. I had never even heard of Ga-Rei until a few days ago and within seconds it was able to draw me in from start to finish. This is usually the part where I go on a long winded post-a-thon about how I felt about it all, but I feel like not much needs to be said in regards to this one. It told its story well and had a spectacular balance of drama, building the sisterly bond between Kagura and Yomi well. There were parts where it did fall victim to taking the more common route, such as Yomi's betrayal being because she was controlled by an evil power or how it was because she had everything stripped away from her. But I feel like even if this show had been stocked neck high in cliches it would've pulled them all off.

8/10, a gorgeous show and my jaw is still plastered to the ground when I think about episode 1. Although I feel like I've had enough and I'm not too interested in the manga, I won't rule out the possibility especially considering its length.

Whoops, there went my attempts to keep it short.

Loved this anime. Definitely one of the better ones I've watched in a long time. I can't emphasize more on how much I liked the OST and thought the different soundtracks were right on mark. Loved Yomi, even to the bitter end. Not sure on whether I'd continue with the manga or not since I don't want to see a version of Yomi doing evil shit after this satisfying ending.
