So I had asked a question on Quora about an anime series that has a gripping plot progression.
This caught my attention-

So I watched 13 eps and was enjoying, though it was confusing here and there.
The while studying tonight I decided to listen to the full op of this anime

But by the time it finished I realised that the 1:30 portion used in the anime never came!

and that's when I saw this-

DAMN THAT KAI

Yes, laugh all you want....

But now please someone help me! What should I do to escape this sense of despair!

It's fine, there are episodic anime like Jigoku Shoujo and Yami Shibai, where you can start whatever season in whatever order you want to.

Well, 2 years ago I was watching Tokyo Ghoul on youtube and when I watched all 11 episodes of the first season I searched for "tokyo ghoul episode 12 eng sub" and I clicked the first video that showed up. What I didn't notice was "season 2" attached to the title of the video.... I watched the whole episode expecting all of the things I didn't understand to clear up at the end.... They didn't.

Nothing like that happened in anime. But I did start the Aria manga first, even tho it had a short prequel as well. Tho not that it matters much, I have seen the anime first and it adapts both of those.

This is the closest I got to something likethat, I usually check first.

Well, once I watched White Album thinking it was White Album 2,when I was looking in the episode threads I already wondered what everyone was talking about. Took me till episode 6 to realize that I got the wrong anime xD

Thanks Gogoanime.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Nah, I watched Railgun season 2 before 1, because I didn't notice the S in the title. Didn't think I missed much though, lol.

I watched the first 2 episodes of what I thought was Aria the Origination, found out that Origination was the third season, and then even later found out that what I actually started was the first season. I basically just confused myself for no reason.

Not me, but my friend have done that. He watched Gundam IBO from S2, and he said he confused with the story. And then he realized he watched the 2nd season after ep 6... But, I will not call him stupid though...
Don't like it? Just stop watching/reading it. Why become a masochist that keep going through something you don't like and bitching in the end of it?

I love how before I even opened the thread I had a feeling the anime would be Higurashi.

Worry not, I too made that mistake and I still ended up enjoying both Higurashi seasons.

well for me the stupidity arises from the difference in 5 mins and 13 episodes

Well, not if it's explicitly titled "season 2", but I can see troubles arising for some series. Like how they had the "kai" in Higurashi as you mentioned.
Heck, you only have to bring up Fate, and it gets all muddled lol. As in, technically Fate/Zero is a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, but it came out after F/SN, the titles don't explicitly state anything, it was developed by a different studio, and if you ask anyone who's a fan, they will tell you to skip F/SN altogether, and watch F/Z, then one of the confusingly named Ufotable Fate movies instead of it. Urg, that series gives me headaches.

Something similar actually happened to me with Working!! (the only difference in the name of the seasons was the number of exclamation marks -.-). I had both seasons downloaded and watched like 11 episodes of season 1 and then I didn't watch it for a while and when I came back to it to finish the last two eps there were some new characters that seemed strangely established already but I didn't think too hard about it until I realized I had watched the last 2 eps of the second season instead.

It worked out in the sense that it made me realize that the characters would not develop at all by the end of season 2 so I ended never watching the second season.
I probably regret this post by now.

well Higurashi resets like every 4 or 5 episodes if I remember correctly so its understandable to make the mistake you made

This hasn't happened to me. I mean, I've seen White Album 2 and I haven't seen White Album, but White Album and White Album 2 are separate stories anyway, so it doesn't really count. I did so intentionally.

I did have the unfortunate implication that the LoGH OVA series that's rated so highly is the first part of its series some years ago-- there's actually a movie that comes first, along with other watching order particularities-- but I still have yet to watch the series so it never became a problem.

It is my habit to always check the MAL page for a show before watching it, which is probably why I've never done this. I feel your pain though, OP.

It never happened to me, since I always try to be careful with those things, especially in franchises where the titles can confuse the viewer (Fate, Monogatari, Saint Seiya...), but I don't think people is stupid for confuse the order of the series, no one is perfect after all.

I watched Fumoffu before the original Full Metal Panic because it was rated PG on Netflix (somehow...it was still pretty damn raunchy) and my parents weren't entirely cool with me watching anime above PG when I was ten or so without asking.

The show works fine on its own, and after watching the original I prefer Fumoffu.

Don't worry fam, I finished Code Geass R2 before the first season. I thought 'R2' was just a decoration in the title. But I think it was a better weird experience, the first season ended unsatisfying however you look at it.It's far too late to admit it's wrong

Hey, that's not true. The development is there I tell you even if not obvious at glance.
And even then, things REALLY develop in season 3 + Special.

Well I'm mainly talking about that girl and her manphobia. It was still just as bad (and violent and annoying) at the end of season 2 as it was in the beginning of season 1. That's part of why I didn't even realize I was watching the second season because her character was literally the same. I felt like the show was constantly baiting me with potential development for her but nothing ever stuck and season those two final episodes of the second season still have those same issues just confirmed that I don't want to get deeper into the franchise. It wasn't terrible or anything, just annoying enough to not want to watch another season (or two) of it.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well, that issue is resolved in S3 too if it matters to you :)

I think she already starts trying to fix her manphobia by S2 but the big results only show at S3.

My best friend actually started two anime by 2nd seasons lmao.
First he watched K-On!! instead of K-On! not realizing that there was an extra exclamation mark .. Probably because he didn't know that the anime's 1st season was called K-On! xD.

Second was Mushishi Zoku Shou i remember him saying how he liked the new anime that came out( Mushishi Zoku Shou) while in reality the 1st season was just called Mushishi and he was like: "well whatever it doesn't really connect to the 1st season that much so it doesn't matter xD".

I usually look at the air date of an anime before watching it, just to be on the safe side.
The only anime I got real confused about was Touka Gettan...that crap was trippy af and only made sense if you watched it in reverse- which I did.

Never has it felt stranger watching an anime where I had to start from episode 26 and end on episode 1 lmao...felt even weirder knowing it was intentional.

As for accidentally watching something the wrong way or missing seasons, I don't think I've ever had that problem!

Black Jack 21 was the first thing in that franchise I watched and the 2nd TV series
I watched half of Nura: The Demon Capital streaming on Netflix thinking it was the first season, they don't even have the rest of the 2nd let alone the first season.

Luckily there was no real issue with doing any of that.

The same thing happened with me when I was watching Magi. I started watching Magi: The Kingdom of Magic and got really confused at how they were handling the plot progression and character introductions. Then I looked it up after 2 episode and found Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

I suggest watching season one and then season two again so that you can have a better understanding of the plot.
