meh.. to a certain extent..
i don't really care for anime avatars.
i don't like it when people use japanese terms in regular convo.
and i don't like these so called "subbed elitists" that have no idea what makes a subbed elitist to begin with. when it gets down to it they are just fanatics to the point of idiocy.
i could go on about this subbed elitist thing for awhile, so i'll stop there.

Weeaboos are tolerable.

Otakus suck really hard so you should divert your precious attention to them instead.

Weeaboos are people who literally worship Japanese culture, usually they are foreign and not Japanese, so it's kind of an unorthodox attachment to some people. I don't see the problem with loving Japanese culture as I respect it highly, but some people definitely take things far. But you will always have radical people who go nuts about anything and everything. It is what it is man.

Good on them if that's how they wish to spend their lives. We all need a hobby.

But seriously though, I wish people would use the fucking English title when referring to specific series. There is nothing more cringe worthy then that. I know their a Weeaboo instantly because of that.

the only reason many people even know they exist is because people online never stfu about or ignore them

anyway, they don't bother me...

im sorry to say, but being "cringe" IS NOT a crime and just because something annoys you doesn't necessarily mean it should stop, they are not harming anything

and anyone who is dumb enough to base an entire community on a few is just as cringe worthy or even worse than those they criticize

But srlsy, what's wrong with using random japanese words anyway?
It completely fine for many people, especially for those under 30, 35, to use random english words and phrases (from my German-tongue point of view) like "Cute", if you are with friends and the whole situation is informal. There are dozens of english phrases you can use on a regular basis and even my younger profs do that. It's like scientists and nerds in general are big fans of english, because it's the language of science.
It's completely fine for everyone to use french phrases like "touché" in your regular vocabulary to deadpan someone's joke etc. as well.
But yeah, I don't want to be seen as a weeaboo. So I stick with my "Denglish" like everyone else and all the other good nerds there. XD

It's fine because they make the anime community fun. I don't think I can keep up with all the overly serious anime fans and alike.

I have a lot of friends in LINE that would certainly qualify as weeabos though, they never let me down with their awesome jokes and funny desu desu-s XD

I mean using this site as an example most of the series are listed with their Japanese title and it's obviously going to be the title more people have more exposure to. Granted not knowing both titles is a sign of a filthy casual but only using the English titles is more appropriate for dub streaming sites or mainstream shows that have enough popularity that it doesn't really matter.

OT: I generally don't care, at worst they're making themselves look bad and it's likely going to be the other members of the community who spread the image anyway. Basically it's the members who try to be moderate while also pointing to what they consider the worst parts of the community that make anime watchers look bad.

Weeaboos do not exist. They are a strawman thought up by neo-nazis.

My honest to god thoughts?

I think "weeaboo" is more of a phase than anything else.

I believe MANY MALers have been at one point or another even for a little bit through this phase.

It is in fact usually triggered through an admiration of anime that eventually starts to seep into other things.

First you watch anime and you like it....then you want to learn Japanese because it's so "cool" and sounds so much different than English!

Then you want to eat Japanese food and all that Jap candy...then you start thinking that other Japanese cultural things are cool cuz you saw it in a goddamn cartoon!

Eventually you actually want to go to Japan, because that's your holy land!

This is all a phase though....MOST people naturally grow out of it...or move on to other things or whatever.

Personally, I think Japan's culture is pretty neat, but I wouldn't trade my American culture for it.

I love our sports, our movies, our TV shows, and you know what? Nothing gets my freedom boner harder than that goddamn flag!

God bless America man!

Isn't weeaboo the definition of a person that just goes and denies their own culture and tries to do everything in Japanese?

But anyway, when it comes to that I don't have a problem with liking Japanese culture, but trying to embrace it and then ignoring their own culture and/or trying to do everything in Japan can come off as embarrassing, that's more so said in public eye. Heck even trying to speak Japanese without really knowing how Japanese writing or language works is even more embarrassing. I guess to say the least.

Though they are seen in a bad light I have yet to see a weaboo other than the ones people talk about and they are the most extremes of examples so I'll just assume they are ok people.

We'd look like shit regardless so it doesn't matter. I mean, going a step further and getting rid of things like loli, ecchi, and whatever else people want to go on crusades against for giving an anime a bad name would ultimately change little in this regard. All of these things are just people scapegoating whatever they can to try and escape the cold, harsh reality that they often have some of the shittiest attitudes out there. Either that or they're just shitposting, which thankfully seems to be the case most of the time.

No, I talk to a lot of them and after I school them on their lack of anime knowledge they pretty much look like a hollowed out pumpkin, adorable bunch think they know shit. My favorite are the retards that run around like the ninjas do sometimes in naruto... I wish we could legally hunt them... would be fun.

Dude, that's not the only reason. Thinking that everything that comes out of Japan is great. Abandoning your own culture.
There are a lot more reasons to hate weebs.

Using random foreign words doesn't make you look smart. It's just an insult.

I completely agree. Although there may be some who lightly follow the 'definition' of one, only an incredibly small % of the fan base are indeed model weeaboos.

Whats so bad about using a foreign word btw? :O

Most people who complain about foreign words are people who don't understand anything about the way languages develop.
In particular, English has stolen a lot of words all over the world. For example, all the science words are Latin, because that's what learned people in middle ages used.
I find making up words like "weeaboo" to be more annoying.

Tsukeru-kun said:

Japanese language is pretty hard to learn, because it doesn't have much in common with european languages like English or French.
Its grammar isn't easy too.
But most people are just scared off by thousands of kanji. There are tricks to making sense of them, but it is still quite a hurdle.

So you're okay if a person started speaking random German words knowing nothing about its meaning? Are you that eager for someone to insult your mother tongue?

People do it all of the time, especially when talking about WWII and the like where almost any type of policy or event related to the Third Reich - which the name most commonly spoken is name a that people should be offended by according to your logic, not even because of national socialism but since it's literally just an amalgamation between an English word (Third) and a German word (Reich) - is said using German words to some extent. Kindergarten is a German word and that's a fairly common name for entry level school in many non-German places, or at least America. There are towns outside of Germany named after an old Prussian chancellor, Otto von Bismarck, one of which is the capital of an American state. It's extremely commonplace.

And I'm still not understanding where you're coming from at all with this ._.

Mich thinks that du hast mich. Ich bin ein?

Um

"Me thinks that you have me. I am one?"

that's some denglish if i've ever seen it

Assuming you want to say something like "Ich glaube du hasst mich," though, then not at all, man

It's a huge pet peeve of mine when people get all offended and stuff over really stupid things, though xD

I mean, it'd be one thing to say it's cringeworthy or something, but I feel like you're being silly about it xD Turning it into a matter of being insulting and offensive is essentially what made me respond here, otherwise I would've just not cared

It is not insulting whenever people use words that are not of their native tongue, and it is not insulting when people express great interest in a different culture than their own either

that's ridiculous
