CLUB SPECIFIC
  • Treat others as you'd like to be treatedDO NOT insult, bash, harass, etc. other members of MAL (not just this club) for ANY REASON. This includes harassing others about their anime watching or lack of challenge completion. We all have to start somewhere and some never finish, but it's the effort and thought that count. Keep in mind that this behavior won't be tolerated.

  • Be patient and respectful ― Managing the club, lists, images, etc. is a lot of work and we will need time to create, as well as update different sections of the club. If you don't hear back from a staff member within a week, it's fine to follow-up, but don't be disrespectful about it, please. You can contact any other staff member for urgent assistance.

  • Challenges — It's required that you post on each challenge thread you want to participate in and/or complete.
     • Please, do not delete your challenges posts on the threads. If you don't wish to work on the challenge anymore, leave them empty, with gibberish or as is.
     • As of Oct 01, 2024, members are no longer allowed to use external posts. (More info here)

  • Your Lists ― You should regularly update your episode count so you have a better episode history in case you forgot to record dates for anime you watched. It is required that your anime list is made public so inspectors can verify your challenges.

  • Anime Dates ― It is required to add the start and end dates to any anime used on our challenges. If you fail to comply, you will be called to the invalids thread and/or receive an instant invalidation of your challenge. Having a valid episode history will help you, but you will still need to add the dates.

  • Comments / Suggestions ― There is a thread for any/all comments and suggestions related to the challenges. We ask that you don't post comments or suggestions on the challenge threads as we won't see them on a timely manner.

QUESTIONABLE ACTIONS
There have been multiple issues where it appears questionable whether a member really watched a series or if they're just adding it to their list to complete a challenge. This club is based on each individual member having integrity and being trustworthy, but that belief does not have any "proof" to back it up besides MAL's Anime History record.

When verifying that someone has completed a challenge, the anime history is the only evidence that a member has. If that "proof" is questionable, it's hard to feel the member has actually earned the badge/points the challenge would reward.

This "rule" will probably not be liked and we do apologize that it become a requirement. However, should one person be allowed to "abuse" the trust the club has put in them, it's unfair and rude to those other members that actually tried, stuck to the rules, and worked hard to earn the badges/points rewarded.

Examples of questionable actions:
  • Adding 15 episodes within the same minute and then 30 minutes later marking the series as complete when it has 26 episodes in total.

  • The gap between the updated episodes is consistently shorter than the episode duration.

  • Completing series in a 24 hours time period, but the time required for said series is far longer than that.

Violations will be handled as followed:
  • 1ST VIOLATION ― WARNING: A private message will be sent to the individual in doubt. They will be allowed to explain and/or clarify the possible misunderstanding. Should they have no valid excuse for the violation, any points/badges in question will be officially denied to the member. They will be allowed to "re-attempt" the challenge(s) to properly earn the badges/points.

  • 2ND VIOLATION ― TEMPORARILY BANNED FROM THE CLUB: A private message will be sent to the member notifying them of the temporarily banning. Anything watched during their ban cannot be applied to any challenge, assuming they rejoin or stay in club after the banning has been lifted. The length of time the ban will last will depend on how large of a violation was committed.

  • 3RD VIOLATION ― PERMANENT BAN: If a member cannot be honest or faithful and clearly lacks integrity, then they are not welcomed in this club. By the 3rd offense they've had plenty of time to change, fix, and/or adjust their watching and tracking habits. If, after the permanent ban, they still want to redeem themselves, they have to first change their habits of recording their anime watching, and then appeal in a PM'd to an admin about how they've changed and would like to be allowed back in the club.

Certain "situations" will be allowed for such as marathoning and forgetting to update for every episode. Also, it's understandable that there might be times where you cannot update and do so a bit later. The "problem" is when this is done repetitively to the point of creating doubt which is why the first warning allows for an explanation, but doing this over and over is unusual and will be considered as the member ignoring the club rule/warning.

GENERAL CHALLENGES RULES
  • If a challenge offers and/or requires the use of a listing, tag and/or page of allowed anime to be used, only those will count.
     — Limit yourself to use the provided sites. If you were to find another suitable listing, provide it to a staff so we can verify it.

  • If a challenge offers difficulties, you will only need to complete the required amount by your desired difficulty.
     — To earn points from all of those available, you will need to complete them as separate attempts, with different entries between them all.
     — Each difficulty must be on its own list/spoiler, to clearly differentiate it from the other attempts.
     — Multiple difficulties may be attempted on the same post at the same time.

  • Previously completed series aren't allowed. Neither is re-watching. (unless otherwise stated on the challenge)
     — Re-starting a series isn't allowed, as it is considered a re-watch.
     — Series previously started, but not finished, will depend on the challenge they are for.
     — Airing can be used, but you must complete the series, so you can only turn-in the challenge after the series has finished airing.

  • Remember that it's required to add the start and end dates to any anime you use for our challenges.

  • No challenge will allow you to use the same entry more than once across all difficulties offered.
     — All anime used must have its own MAL page.

  • You can work on all challenges at the same time. Same for the difficulties, if available.

  • Unless the challenge specifically states otherwise, the time and order you completed the series that might meet the criteria does not matter.

  • The anime you watch can be used for multiple challenges, unless specifically stated otherwise on the challenge thread.

  • All anime used for our challenges must stay on your list at all times. If we discover that you have deleted anime entries from your list and that said entries were used somewhere, that challenge will be invalidated and you will be asked to fix them.
     — Regardless if said challenge was previously validated.

TURNING IN
FirstSecondThird
  • To receive points for a completed challenge, you must turn them in on the provided "Turn-Ins" thread. A form that has to be followed will be provided there.

  • As of April 28, 2017, you must post all turn-ins finished in a period of 24 hours in the same post. This is to make the inspections more efficient.

  • Please only include the upgrade part if you are actually turning in an upgraded entry. This means that you have previously turned in a version of the challenge that you wish to upgrade to a higher level. Do not turn in Easy and upgrade to Medium in the same post -- simply turn in a Medium difficulty post. This is to avoid confusion.

CHALLENGES WITH MULTIPLE RUNS
x2 - x3 - x4 - ∞
  • Before starting a challenge for a second+ time, you have to complete all previous difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard, and if applicable Conquered) once.
     — You shouldn't make a reserved post for your second run before finishing the first one.

  • Your second+ attempted has to be in a new post, with new entries and you must not add anything to your first try (previous post) after completion.
     — Unless it has been stated that start date doesn't matter.
     — You must still differentiate between attempts and don't place them all under the same listing.

  • You can only do challenges for the allowed amount of repeats/runs.
     — Completing them beyond that will be seen as a personal challenge, thus you won't earn extra points/badges for them.
     — If a challenge were to receive a new repeat/run, it will only count from that date (unless otherwise stated).

  • If you're already in the process of working on the challenge a second+ time through but have not completed all previous difficulties, you can "reassign" or "breakup" the difficulty into the smaller ones.
     — For example, if you finished conquered a second time but hadn't completed the other difficulties the first time, you can take the 40 entries from the conquered and divide them up into 30 for hard and 10 for easy, leaving only medium you still have to do before working on the x2 challenge.

  • Only Conquered will be requestable, even at x2+ stage.
     — The challenges that will allow requesting a badge will be listed on the Turn Ins thread.
     — The Easy, Medium, and Hard x2 challenges will be what's donated by members/cardmakers.

  • A list of challenges with multiple runs can be found here.
     — Find information about requesting Conquered Badges on the turn in thread.

CHALLENGE MASTERY
Request Format here.
  • Mastery is given only to those that have completed every possible difficulty available for the specific challenges allowed; this includes (but not limited to):
     — Easy, Medium, Hard, Conquered (x1)
     — Easy, Medium, Hard, Conquered (x2)
     — Easy, Medium, Hard, Conquered (x3 and so on)
     — Mastery Difficulty (if the challenge has one)

  • Some may even go through x3, so please make sure you're checking the individual challenge thread for requirements (these may also be updated as more material is released)

  • Because of the sheer volume this will require you to watch (usually greater than the Ultimate challenge), the mastery status has been created to give you one of the following:
     — Customized GIF Badge (same size as normal challenge-completion badges)

     — Customized GIF Card (average card size)

  • These will only be customized to include your username.

  • Please make sure to follow the proper procedure to request your badge/card. Unlike with normal Conquered difficulty, these should be requested in the Completion Rewards thread. You will be required to link to each/all of the difficulties you completed for the challenge.

  • Be aware that this status does not grant additional points unless that specific challenge states otherwise.

  • Normal x2 Challenge rules apply and must be followed.

  • Mastery Difficulty: this is like an extra stage to make sure the full scope of the challenge is realized. This is not always available as some challenges just have a Mastery reward, not an actual difficulty. The extra difficulty requires you to watch a certain extra amount of series/requirements (varies depending on the original challenge).

     — For example: Sunrise challenge requires you to watch Easy - Conquered x1 and then Easy- Conquered x2 after the completion of all 8 difficulties, the mastery badge/card is rewarded with no additional requirements. However, the Production I.G. challenge requires you to watch Easy - Conquered x1 and then complete the Mastery Difficulty which is an extra 80 series. Only after the 5 challenges are completed will you be rewarded the Mastery badge/card.
    • List of Mastery Challenges can be found here

  • Do our lists have to look like the club's with the s and the s?
No, they do not. As long as the content (the lists themselves) are the same, you're free to add your own creative twist to the layout. Examples would be using the strike through option, not listing the anime until it's completed, coloring coding, etc.

  • If we want to use the club's challenge layout, how do we get the coding?
All the Challenges/Collection sign-up codes can be fond here. If it has not been created by a staff member, if you select 'Quote' for the post with the list(s), you would only need to copy and paste everything, then maintain and update it as you keep track. You might want to remove the [quote]s from the beginning and end, but as long as you know how to change colors [color=red](for red, obviously) and [color=green](for green) you don't really have to use the s and s.

  • If we already completed a series/movie/etc. before signing up for a challenge, does it still count?
Depends on the challenge. For almost all of the challenges, yes, it still counts. Unless the challenge specifically states that only anime completed after a certain date counts, then previously completed anime are not accepted. For example, challenge that a previously completed anime wouldn't count: Movie-Per-Day Challenge.

  • Can I add extra criteria to make the challenge harder?
Here, it's all about testing your anime watching skills: push to the limits, or above if you think you can. As long as it doesn't clash with the challenge, e.g. Adding unrelated series (Pokemon) to a challenge that aims at a particular series (Naruto).

    Examples of acceptable extra criteria:
    • Start date ― because I want to start the challenge I'm doing afresh, I will not use any anime I watched before the date that specified I started.
    • Re-watching ― does or does not count (for this challenge, only the anime I re-watch can be counted or for this challenge, I don't have to re-watch the anime that fits into the list to be counted)
    • Time period ― have to start/complete challenge/series within a specified time period

  • Aren't "collections" just rewarding people for finishing a long series? Isn't that a pretty extreme reward?
Not really. It's really difficult to finish longer series, especially those over 100 episodes. And while that could be argued, the point is they watched everything that are related to the specific series. Meaning, these challengers didn't just watch a 150+ episode series, they also watched any/all sequels and the movies associated with it. While this is common for some, majority don't watch the extras usually (often people will watch the movies, but nothing extra unless they really loved the series). So not only is the watcher completing long series, they're also getting exposure to the extras (OVAs, Movies, ONAs, Specials, etc.).

Please note, the button is only half a challenge button size because this isn't as hard as watching a full challenge (depending on the challenge in comparison).

  • There's a part of a challenge that just isn't possible to finish... what do I do?
Please report it to a staff member. We have tried to go through and personally verify the challenges are achievable ― but we're human and there will be mistakes. If the part/section you refer to is able to be completed, we can try to give you advice on where/how to find a series that'd fill that requirement. Worst case scenario, we will update the challenge by either modifying the requirement and/or removing the requirement altogether.

  • What's the time limit for the challenges? I know that Per-Day Challenges have certain limits, but the rest?
We've left that up to the user. You can set a limit, if you desire, but we also left it open for those that want to work on it over time and not feel pressured.

Does my movie-per-day list apply for my alpha-movies list?
- It can, yes, as long as the movie you watched that day aired in the season you're working on

What about the other anime challenges?
- Movie-Per-Day can overlap with any challenge because it's purpose is more that you made the effort to watch a movie each day, rather than what you actually watched.
(For other challenges overlaping, most are allowed unless the challenge specifies otherwise)

In the MPD Challenge it says "If you miss a day, you can make it up ONCE by watching two the following day. If you miss more than one day, you've failed the challenge and will need to start anew."

Then does that means that we can watch in advance?. For example, knowing that tomorrow I won't be able to watch then instead of one I watch two (+) today.

But then, if yes, how many movies can we watch per day? I know the idea of that specific challenge it's to watch daily but it's inevitable that this could be tried.....
You can watch in advance but only once. The point of the challenge is to watch a movie per day, so watching multiple in advance or in one day defeats the purpose. That's why is says you can make it up once, meaning that you're allowed one time where you don't watch a movie, but if you miss a second day after that you've failed the challenge and have to restart - with the exception of that one missed time, watching multiple movies in one day still only counts as one movie watched.

So I could watch literally five movies today, but only one would count for my challenge (two at the most if I missed the day before or will miss the day after - but only if I haven't missed already).

Regarding the Top 100 challenge....

What if when I post (to start the challenge) I decide to use a snap-shot BUT from a previous date? Can this be allowed? Providing the file, of course.

Yes, you are allowed to participate in the Top 100 Challenge with a list of the Top 100 anime from a previous date. Meaning you could either follow the current (updated) Top 100, or use the old one.

Note that if you are approaching this challenge with the snapshot method, you cannot remove, add or change anything in the list, even if the site updates it.

From the ONA Exposure
>Watch an ONA that has a non-Japanese title (if the title originally is in English or other languages, it does not count).

Confused on this. If the title is Japanese it does not count (ex. Bounen no Xamdou would not count). And if the title is in originally in English (ex. Born By Myself would not count) or in another language it does not count (ex. Hong Ling Jin Xia would not count).
So if the title cannot be Japanese, English, or another language--that only leaves titles with numbers or symbols. Does that mean things only like 48x61 would count?

Hmmm I think that was accidently changed somehow. As long as the original title is not in Japanese (Free for example) it counts. So ignore the information in the ( )

Can I mark the Fate Challenge as finished if I watched everything except the stuff that wasn't aired yet? (And I'll be sure to watch it when it'll be released.)

Also
As such, everything must be watched even if you have to watch it RAW
You don't really have to since everything that was released was also subbed.

And you can also add http://myanimelist.net/anime/33047/Fate_Extra_Last_Encore (as unaired).
You all need to watch Nami.

Good to know it's all in English! XD I really didn't check which was why I specified (I'll remove that then). And yes, if you have it complete minnus the unaired, it's considered completed.

If you complete 1 challenge twice, do they both count?
(Putting this here rather than in the request thread itself) - yes and no. It basically depends on the challenge.

If you did the Movie Per Day challenge multiple times like the different difficulties, each of those would count as 1 for a total of 3 (easy, medium, and hard). But if you just rewatched all the series in an anime-theme challenge, that would not count (it's too hard to check on and even slightly validate). If you completed the (for example) OVA exposure twice and had completely different content for both attempts, that can be counted as 2 as well.

Movie-Per-Day Challenge

What's the stance on late night watching? I started Appleseed Alpha at 10pm on 3/29 (for my 3/29 film of the day) but finished a bit after midnight on 3/30. Does it count towards the previous day or is this my 1 missed day?

You started on 3/29, so it counts for the day you started the movie; its duration over midnight does not matter.

Any specials you watched before you start the challenge does not count. Meaning even if the special itself lasts over midnight towards the next day (after the date the challenge was put up), it still cannot be used for the Genre-Specials Challenge, as you started watching the anime before the challenge starting time.

So does that mean if I started watching, let's say Major S1 and only got through 12 episodes of it but finished the remaining episodes after the challenge was set, that doesn't count?

For the Recommendation Challenge

If the only anime recommended to watch (that I haven't seen) has an episode count of over 100 episodes, I have to watch this one and can't skip to the other?
Meaning that it doesn't matter the episode count for the anime?

Just curious if I have a way out of this xD

edit: what if the one to watch it's a spin-off or sequel to something not watched?

Unfortunately, that is also what makes the Recommendation challenging. Unless the series with 100+ episodes has been watched and used for another Anime-based challenge, you must watch it if you wish to proceed.

Say a spin-off, sequel etc. appears at the top of an anime's recs tab, but you have not watched its main story, skip it and scroll down the list of recommendations to the next anime from top that you have not started yet. (Though I doubt there would be any ridiculous recs like that, just throwing a sequel out of nowhere at you. The only time you would encounter a sequel, spin-off, etc. is most likely when you are on the page of the anime that you have completed. E.g. it would not be weird if someone recommended Kimi to Boku. 2 for you on Kimi to Boku.'s recs tab, as you must have already seen it to be there.)

I don't want to bring troubles (lol) but got another some questions.

I was checking my list for the Alpha-Movie Challenge and was having some troubles, so decided to see if anyone had finished to get at least some ideas.... then noticed this post, and there is at least one of them that's under 20 minutes. Rules says that they should be "longer than 20 minutes".... so since that was already added to the Hall of Fame what I want to know is if there is any exception to a particular season/letter that I don't know of.... because if there is I can fill a lot more xD

Thanks for bringing this to my attention - no, there is no exception and I've msged the user to ask her to complete another series under the "s" for Winter.

One Piece challenge

I don't believe there's a copy of this online anywhere since this was part of an actual amusement park ride (most likely a motion simulator ride). I also went to the listed Brazilian fansubber's site and I couldn't find it on there either.

Thanks, I'll get it moved to bonuses. =)

About the Sports Challenge:
Cannot use previously seen series.

Does that mean we can't use only previously completed series, or we can't use even series we started watching before, but haven't completed yet?
And if not, can we at least set the beginning of the year as the starting date?
Asking just to be sure.

You all need to watch Nami.

Hm. Let's go with you can't use anything completely finished yet. So if it's been started and is watching or on-hold, it'll be allowed (mostly because I'm concerned with the fact that Sports is a pretty popular genre lol). ^-^ I'll update the challenge rules. Thanks

One question and one comment about the sports challenge.

Question: Is racing just motorsports or do other forms of racing count(Bicycle/Running/Electric Rollerblades).?

Comment: The math is wrong. 18 24 30.

Other forms of racing count. They are classified as the genre 'cars'.

Thank you for noticing. Riho probably copy pasted from the other challenge's format. Fixed.

@IMKZ, I feel like you gave me 2 different answers. So anything that is a race counts regardless of mode of transport count? And racing that is cars and isn't labeled sports also count?

That is what the 'racing' section means. As long as they use a type of transport to race in competition(s), or as the main focus of the anime, it counts. It never specified any limitations toward the type of transport. An example of racing but not with cars would be Yowamushi Pedal.

Regarding the 'cars' genre, most of the anime with said genre would have 'sports' labelled next to it. For the anime without the sports genre but has 'cars', there could also be racing, but just not too competitive to be classified with other sports anime. Simply put, the Sports Challenge requires you to watch anime with the tag 'sports' in it. I was merely informing you that it would be easier to find racing anime if searched with the genre 'cars'.

@IMKZ Alright, cool. I was just making sure . Racing is just vague and the first answer confused me. I've watched most of initial D and stuff so I was just hoping i didn't have to go into weird deep car racing territory.

I have a question regarding the Gainax challenge. Is Beat Shot!! just ecchi or is it hentai? I have to ask because the English title, Watch Me Sink My Putz, just sounds like cheesy porn. And, I found a link for a video on a hentai site.

MAL lists it as an ecchi. It is rated R+ due to mild nudity. But it is not a hentai.

I have a question regarding Alpha-Movies Seasonal Challenge: I've been completing my To-watch list (using AniDB, since it's easier to use for me) and I found there Vampire Hunter D (2000) [http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=66] that would fit perfectly as my Spring-V-Movie of choice. But on MAL it's a summer 2000 movie: Vampire Hunter D (2000): [http://myanimelist.net/anime/543/Vampire_Hunter_D_2000]. The reason for that is, MAL is using US release date, while AniDB - Japanese.

Question - can I use it as Spring movie, based on AniDB info, or do I have to look for something else?

On a side note - I've notced some other films with different release dates on MAL & AniDB, so the reply could be used in more complex way.

In the Vampire Hunter D sequel's case, it should be judged by its initial release date, therefore by MAL. In addition, the challenges in AWC are all based on MAL anime database, so following the dates MAL has provided is preferred. The matter of whether you choose to watch the movie dubbed (2000) or subbed (2001) does not even matter here.

In short, Vampire Hunter D (2000) belongs to Summer 2002, if you plan to watch it.

The answer for you side note is as well stated above.

Okay, then which movie, starting with V belongs to Spring in MAL database? There are 7 V movies:

- Vampire Hunter D (2000) [Aug]
- Venus Wars [Mar]
- Venus [released 1990, no month added. It's also too short]
- Vexille: 2077 Nihon Sakoku [Aug]
- Video Ranger 007 [Aired 1985]
- Vampire Hunter D [Dec]
- Visions of Frank: Short Films by Japan's Most Audacious Animators [Nov]

Versailles no Bara: Seimei Aru Kagiri Aishite [May] is listed on MAL as Rose of Versailles Movie. Plus, I'm not even sure, if it has been subbed, or released in English by anyone.

I'll update - consider it the same as the other exceptions. A series that has the letter v somewhere in the title that aired in Spring.

The Scum Challenge has only 99 titles. It skips from 82 to 84 (no 83).

#17 [X] Joshidai: Ecchi Soudanshitsu
is hentai too, what can replace it?

and I know they are mentioned at the beginning but it would be easier for the hentai entries to have that besides their name, like with the airing ones.

Oh, sorry, my mistake. Here is the fixed (I hope) list. I ask if mods could post it in the challenge. Since Sleeping with Hinako is now #99, the replacements for hentai are now Nantokashite Alguard, Hustle!! Tokitama-kun and Urashima Tarou (1931).

You all need to watch Nami.

In reference to the Lupin the Third challenge, it appears that Lupin Shanshei Pilot and Lupin Shanshei episodes aren't subbed. I downloaded the only version that anidb had listed from the group site and it appears it's a raw version. Unless there's another version I'm missing if so where would I find it?

For the series-per-2days challenges, can we start another series on the day we finished one?

example:

day 1 (5/9/16): anime
day 2-3 (5/9/16 - 5/10/16): anime

or

day 1-2 (5/9/16 - 5/10/16): anime
day 3 (5/10/16): anime

day 3 (5/10/16): anime

That example is similar to the rule: only one series will be counted for the challenge in those two days. Therefore one day, even more.

For both examples of yours, they will not be counted.

I have a quick question regarding the Recommendation Challenge. If the next series in the list that you have not seen is a direct sequel to a title you have not previously watched, can it be skipped or not? Could you watch the first season in it's place instead or would you have to essentially watch both seasons before continuing on?

As an example, let's say you started with Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and the next recommended series you have not completed is Clannad: After Story. If at this point you have not seen the first season, Clannad, can you then skip Clannad: After Story and go to the next recommended series on the list? Which in this case would be Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo. If not, can you substitute Clannad for Clannad: After Story? Or would you essentially have to complete both seasons before moving on?

I apologize if that was a bit long-winded, I just don't want there to be any confusion regarding my inquiry.
